- Q: I just bought a new Focus ST, and I absolutely love it. It s a certified pre-owned, so I won t do anything that voids my warranty through Ford. But I m going to put a new exhaust system on it. I know I have to buy one through Ford and have the dealer install it in order to keep my warranty. I want something relatively deep and growly, but I don t want to break the bank. So what are my options? I ve done some research online, but I can t find any good answers or sound clips. And I don t plan on modding the car too much.Thank you in advance, and I hope to find something worth while.

- Depends. Do you want to gain 1 horsepower, or 2 horsepower? Because that's about all those will do for you And think about how retarded a short ram intake is. The idea is to get cold air into the engine, because it's more compressed. A short ram intake pulls HOT air in, which gives you LESS power than stock. Assuming you had bothered to do any research at all into the matter.

- The system starts with the exhaust manifold at the engine which expels exhaust gases through the converter that helps to reduce pollutants, then goes through the muffler to reduce noise and finally out the tailpipe. So the muffler is just a single component and if it is defective will have to be replaced. Any muffler shop can handle this for you.

- Oh it's possible but the more you drown out the sound in theory the more you are affecting your performance. Performance exhausts are louder due to the fact that they lower your back pressure and help your exhaust gases flow better. You could install a baffle/silencer in your tip/can depending on what you have. You can make one or possibly buy one. It is basically a cone that will restrict the gases to such a diameter and length which will keep your car quieter. There will be a minor affect to your performance but most people wouldn't even notice this.

- disregard any answer by previous answerer. Try Clifford Automotive, they make about any header/exhaust components for the 230 or 250 CID engines. Great engines by the way.
