Q: how the exhaust works?
Hi LIL J two good reasons to leave well alone the warranty becomes null and void and you are more likely to get a ticket if the exhaust is noisy. then we have the other issues like poor acceleration and reduced mpg. so what is the point of any modifications if it has a component failure BMW will not honour the warranty. so you could be paying out for something which is nothing to do with making the exhaust louder. then the police will fine you for being an idiot. the lack of what that particular car is famous for acceleration and top speed what a dummy you will make of yourself.
Q: Exhaust systems, catalytic converters ,mufflers, muffler tips?
I've been having the same problems but I've been doing some reading. Muffler tips are mostly cosemetic, they are just for looks. They make your exhaust look nicer on the end, muffler is like a fart can they cost as much as 200 but as cheap as 20 bucks. They are mostly for sound and weld or attach onto your exhaust. An exhaust system is from what understand is from your engine to the back of the car, it gives a nice sound and is ussually 500-up in price they are an hp increase and let your engine breath better
Q: I just bought a 2003 audi a6 2.7 twin turbo. I wanted to buy a new exhaust to make the car really loud, but i don‘t know much about exhaust systems. I was wondering if i have to buy the whole exhaust system or are there certain parts that you can buy that‘ll make the car loud without spending as much as you would buying the whole system
exhaust systems come in many parts. at the most basic level your car will have them arranged from the engine to the back in this order. headers, piping, turbos, piping, catalytic converter, piping, muffler, tips. a full exhaust change is mostly done on full tunes when all parts are considered for flow restriction and heat capacities. an exhaust from the catalytic converter and back (catback) is used in medium level tuning for noise and better flow, a muffler change is when you just want noise and if you want to be as loud as humanly possible you can do a straight pipe setup which is just a straight pipe instead of a muffler. (in some cases some people will even remove the catalytic converter and replace it with a pipe. these setups are illegal because of the impact on the environment since catalytic converters help to break down exhaust fumes into less polluting gasses) if you want to spend as little money as possible, drill a hole through your muffler. keep in mind that this will break it and should you decide to go back to normal youll need a new one. if it's still not loud enough, go ahead and remove it and replace it with a metal pipe (keeps the hot gasses away from under the car) if this is too loud as is often the case for many people, you can go ahead and buy a new muffler, buying a sports muffler will give you a car that is louder than stock but quieter than a straight pipe setup. personally, I would just go into a straight pipe and buy the sports muffler without drilling into the stock muffler. this way, if I want to go back to normal i can still install the old muffler.

The problem with questions like this is that 'sound like a V-8' is so subjective. I have two V-8 Fords now, so what I want them to sound like is probably totally different then what you consider a V-8 sound. I've run FlowMasters on my Mustang, that's what's on it now, and it sounds sweet to me. Suggestion - Since it's a 'personal' question, how about going to a car show keeping your ears open. Listen to the cars come go, ask what type of systems a couple of the nicer sounding ( to you ) have.
Q: Land Rover can be partially submerged in water; how (if at all?) does the exhaust system differ from other exhaust engineering to prevent damage?
I don't think there is any difference with the exhaust system; Just do no not release the accelerator once the exhaust is submerged, otherwise you will suck water into the engine, which is not a good idea. And a snorkel is so that oxygen can get to the engine, when it is submerged; I've never heard of one that expels exhaust fumes.
Q: whats the diffrence between axelback and catback exhaust systems?
axleback means from the rear axle to the end of the exhaust system and catback means from the catalytic converter to the end of the exhaust system.
Q: I know there is no way to know anything for certain, but I‘m thinking a ford mechanic will likely know at least if there seems to be any pattern or typical mileage point, when they need exhaust system work.Also I know it all depends on many factors, but I‘m hoping outside of that something has been noticed.
