FAQ

Does the water pump and the circulating pump belong to the centrifugal pump?
They're all centrifugal pumps!
I have replaced the presure switch on my water pump but it switches on and off when it is building up presure instead on staying on until it gets to right presure.Any ideas of what is causing this?
The switch may have gotten some debris in it. Try removing it(again) Clean the passage way out. If possible try running the water a few seconds while this is off to clear any debris than reinstall and check. It also could be low pressure in the expansion tank or a bad bladder in same.
And if it needs to be replaced, does that spell trouble for a car? I see a car I might like to buy, but the ad says that the water pump needs to be replaced. Someone please enlighten me. Thanks.
did u get a mechanic to do it? or do it yourself? if you had a mechanic do it, ask them to fix it if you had no problems prior. Could be thermostat, could be you dont have enough coolant in radiator or even proper coolant to water ratio. All i know is you need to bleed out the radiator to remove all air after water pump is taken off and put back on, because that can cause problems aswell. ok well you just updated it, so i am too, your mechanic sounds like a dumb ****, he should have bled air out of radiator, the fact he told you is weird, should have fixed it then and there. It is an important step of changing water pump. If there is air in it, your radiator and water pump wont be rotating the water properly. Tell him to fix it and say you did your research and you're not paying another cent!
What is the definition of the pump in the capacity of the pump?
Work pump, spare pump, repair pump three are interchangeable use, the work pump need to overhaul, repair pump work, work pump is maintenance pump. The capacity of the water pump is not less than 25% of the work pump. If the work pump, spare pump, repair pump model is the same, the work pump 4 units, repair pump at least 1 units, 5 pumps, repair pumps need 2 units

It depends on which engine you have, with or without a supercharger. The non-supercharged engine is a piece of cake. the supercharged one is a bit of a pain to get at the water pump. On the non-supercharged engine, all you need to do is remove the serpentine belt, the water pump pulley and the bolts that hold the water pump to the front cover. I have detailed instructions if you send me your email address I can give them to you. They are from GM Service Information website. I can't give you the link to the website because I have to enter a password to enter the site through work.
the car is a 1973 Pontiac Lemans, 350 V8. Water pump needs to be replaced. It's obviously a mechanical pump that's in there now. I was thinking of getting something with more capacity (to start off) as I feel the car could do with a better cooling system (and I have to get a water pump anyways). I was thinking of getting an electrical pump as that would also free up a bit of power from the engine. From what I gather, by doing this it seems I need to switch to an electrical fan also. Is that the case? Any advice/opinions on electrical systems and set ups? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance to anyone who answers. Much appreciated.
Nothing okorder and check out what will work best for you. I hope this helps and I love early '70's Lemans', Tempest's and GTO's so cool car bro.
After the pump has the control box, but also the power distribution box, the control box and the distribution box is not the same box?
1, after the pump has the control box, do not need the distribution box.2. The control box is not the same as the distribution box.Wiring principle is as follows: from the distribution box power supply into the control box, L1, L2, L3 (usually so); from the control box to connect U, V, W to the water pump.
I have some black RTV silicone that I got with a gasket for my oil pan. Can I use some on a gasket for a water pump instead of regular sealant or is there a particular type I need? If there is a certain or preferred type please give me a link to it at like autozone or something, thanks!
Sealant or silicone is usually used instead of a gasket. A gasket is made to seal and does not need any other kind of sealant. If installing a gasket and you do not want it to move then you use a glue, but just enough to keep the gasket in place. Glue like 3M. If installing a Eng. oil pan gasket where it takes a rubber end or an intake manifold gasket then you use a silicone where the rubber meets the paper or cork gasket. This is for insurance only. Some oil pans don't use a paper gasket then you use a silicone. Lay a good 1/4 inch bead around the block and let it get tacky then carefully install the oil pan. On the water pump, it wont hurt to put silicone to hold the gasket in place, and also insurance in case it leaks Good luck
