Q:i have a 2001 mazda 323 astina hatchback, i want to get an exhaust system on it but i was wondering how much i would be looking at for it. i want it to be loud enough so you can tell theres an exhaust system but not too loud. what type of extractors etc would be best for this?
I have an 04' Mazda rx8, and I am totally a ricer. I sold my Cat, and got a 150 dollar CATBACK exhaust from DN racing, it has 2 high flow resonators that do not help at all, but is enough to make cops look the other way. It is extremely loud. I can even backfire/shoot flames at 4000-6000 RPM's. But basically for you, if you want to tell it has an exhaust system and not have too loud, get an OKorder exhaust kit. It takes like 3-5 days to ship, but you save alot of money. Buy a Catback with mufflers/muffler or a resonator. 3'' exhaust will be fine. Catback exhaust are the cheapest, will pass smogtests, improve performance(by small margin), and sound better. Midpipe kit+catback means your cat will be sold to a watchmaker, you will not pass smog tests, replacing a OEM cat will be a 700 dollar repair, but your performance and sound will be the best.

Magnaflow opens up the exhaust system for more horsepower and better fuel milage. It doesnt neccesarily make it loader. The cheap systems are louder than the high quality systems. Some of the diesel systems are quieter than the factory systems. It all depends on which grade system you get

some vehicles have them for appearance purposes, some have them for performance reasons. A lot of it depends on how the system is built and the engine in the car. if the engine is an inline engine, meaning the cylinders are in 1 row, it usually has 1 exhaust manifold. thats what connects the engine to the exhaust system. on those engines its basically for appearance purposes, if the engine is a V engine, like a v6 or a v8, theres 2 rows of cylinders, and 2 exhaust manifolds. on those cars, a lot of people prefer to have each exhaust manifold have its own exhaust piping and muffler. sometimes even on those engines though, the systems arent true duals like i just described, and in those cases, its for appearance purposes. people like to look like their cars are fast sometimes.

Q:I was thinking about getting MAC catback exhaust system with MAC o/r H-pipe. I was watching videos of the exhaust system on youtube and they all sound loud, deep, bassy, and gurgly which i'm looking for. I looked up on Ebay and the exhaust systems are cheap! For the system is like 300 and for the o/r MAC h-pipe its about 160.So would you say that the MAC catback sounds good or you dont like it? I think it sounds better than flowmasters.
X pipe because it sounds alot better. Also i think X pipe with borla sounds the best on a Mustang.

If you don't want to spend a great deal of money, a single to dual outlet flowmaster 40 or 44 will get you a decent sound. For even less money than that you could have a y pipe at the converter and run straight pipes with no mufflers. If you're willing to sink some money into it, you could do a true dual system with headers, high flow cats, and single chamber mufflers. Ignore arefu, he hasn't got a clue what he's talking about. Contrary to what he mentions, it's fundamentally impossible for catalytic converters to clean your engine Since they are well downstream of the combustion process in the first place.
Q:Exhaust questionI have a 2002 Cavalier Z24, I want to put an exhaust system on it, my friends have told me to just get the muffler box you want (flowmaster Super 44) and replace the stock box, I know how to weld so that helps, but some people are saying not to do that cause it will mess up things up on my car. But other friends have done that to there sport cars and they say its fine. Need to know who’s right, or some advice.
If you just weld on a new muffler you are still going to have backpressure in the system.Backpressure is what will mess up your engine.You need to buy a complete exhaust system.You are going to need headers and the aftermarket exhaust system.If you choose a catback exhaust you will have less problems getting the car smog checked but you will lose some power.

Hi. I would look in the yellow pages and see if i could find a local exhaust shop to do the work. I don't remember if that car has single or dual exhaust but i don't think it has a catalytic converter. Avoid Mienike or any major chain shop; the local muffler shop with a 1 year warrenty on the muffler is all you need. Straight exhaust pipes and a muffler.might be two pipes off the motor into one out the back, they should know what to do. Forget about flex pipe and doing it yourself. Been there, done that, its a waste of time. Get it done right the first time by a cheap shop and save yourself lots of headaches chasing leaks because you used flex pipe. Good Luck!
