Q:I realize that it depends on the welder, type of metal and type of car/truck but in the big scheme of things how hard is it to weld and exhaust?
If you are referring to welding on a used system yes it is way more difficult. The pipes have been hot cold many times, the dirt, mud and road grime is baked onto the surface, If you know basic welding you can do it with a little practice. If the pipes are old enough to be almost rotted out then time to replace.
Q:I am simply wondering where the best place to take my car to get an exhaust system installed on it. would i go to a dealer? Somewhere else?
Your first answerer, caused me to write this. He must work for a dealer. You can have the exhaust replaced and worked on anywhere. Sears, Midas, and other independent exhaust shops can do it for you cheaper than any dealer can. Plus, in this economy, everyone will not turn away a potential sale. One thing that you cannot do, is get rid of your catalytic converter permanently. That is US EPA 100% illegal. Now as to sound, you can do anything you want. Yes, some communities have noise ordinances. I once had a vehicle where I also had a very loud exhaust. I did get a ticket. Took it to court. Won my case because, a Harley is so much louder than my truck ever was.
Q:I have a ‘91 2.3L Mustang LX and I want to get a Flowmaster Super 44 muffler and swap it out with my stock muffler. My question is, if I just swap out the mufflers and keep the rest of my exhaust system, will there be any big performance issues? Would getting a new exhaust system offer any big advantages or is just the muffler fine? Btw, I already checked to make sure that this muffler fits my car and it does. Thanks
Look man if u r looking for nice sound coming out of ur car then the muffler will do it cause it will just make the car roaring and that's it. But performance u gotta buy the full exhaust system cause by then the full exhaust pipe will b wider which will let more air coming through ur exhaust and ur engine and will burn more fuel and at the end u will gain abt 10 to 20 MAX HP Hope u got the full circle :)
Q:How much horsepower will i add to my car if i threw a KN Intake and Borola Exhaust System in?
About 2 or 3. Mazda didn't leave much potential to be unlocked in the intake and exhaust, they already are pretty free-flowing.
Q:my system is apparently rotten form the end all the up to the catalytic converters, so would it be cheaper to get stock exhaust or aftermarket, any suggestions and if i buy a new system where does is start because the mechanic said i needed everything from the catalyitic converter back.it s a 1990
There is roughly 10-13 laps of rubber on there
Q:How hot are exhaust gases that come out of a cars exhaust system? What temperature are the gases?
Try Anco or Trico blades. I've had much better luck with them. As previously stated, try cleaning them regularly with isopropyl alcohol.
Q:I just got an exhaust system for my car, bigger tubing and what not. My air intake is still stock though, so will there be a problem with that? I suck in the same amount of air but release it out the exhaust quicker to me that sounds like no problem but friends told me that I would need to upgrade the air intake to keep up. Is that true?
No it's not a problem. If you want a little more horse power go with a KN air filter. If you want more horse power and better Mileage, Go with a cold air intake. But You souldn't cause any problems with the bigger exhaust. You will however have less Back pressure So you may lose some power
Q:My exhaust system backfires. it consists of headers, pipes, and mufflers. i have been told that the back fire in the exhaust system (not the carb) would be caused by air in the pipes because of poor welds. i have also heard that an H pipe is the correct way of exhaust work, instead of two isolated straight pipes.is either reason right? aftermarket carb, bypassing emissions controls, ‘84 305 K5 Blazer.
Sure. Totally normal.
Q:im looking to buy either a wrx or sti in the future and am for sure going to do stuff to it and i have no idea what are good exhaust systems are for imports. i used to be an all muscle car guy but im trying new things haha
If you removed the axle, what will keep the fluid in while driving? I wouldn't do it.
Q:I have a 2007 v6 mustang and I recently got a Pypes true dual exhaust kit making it, dual exhaust from the stock single exhaust and giving it a much better sound. i can see the mpg I get on the dash and I was used to seeing 16-19 but when I looked it said 13.8. I have had the exhaust for less them a week and sure, I‘m being a little harder on the gas to hear the noise but a loss in mpg is a lot to lose just to be a little harder on the pedal. my hypothesis is that I am losing back pressure/force because the air is coming out two pipes instead of one, but I am no car expert at all. why is this happening? and how can I fix it?
Back-pressure is the LAST thing you need on a fuel injected car - back pressure is what costs hp and gas mileage, and is not anything to concern yourself with unless you start getting extremely ragged with a cam in an older car - and even that is a problem with excessive scavenging and burning valves. You say you got a true dual exhaust kit; what exactly did you do with the oxygen sensors? If you messed up the signal from the O2 sensors, you have mangled your car's ability to manage the fuel maps - that will not only reduce your mileage, but it will adversely affect both your horsepower and cause mechanical problems (starting with fouling plugs, but it can get worse from there). If the O2 sensors are properly located, the next thing I'd think would be causing an issue would be an exhaust leak somewhere in the system - if there's a leak, again, you will be having an incorrect read from your sensors, which will mis-map the fuel.
