- Q: I was wondering what kind of exhaust system to get for my Firebird 92. I am looking for the best one for the best price with the best performance for my model of Firebird. I would like it to be a dual exhaust I was looking at some of the flow master exhaust systems but all it said about them was what kind of series and not much about the performance. My car is just a regular Firebird and not a trans am so please don‘t think that it is just a 5.0L V8 engine with dual exhaust but still has a bit of fight in it but would like to add a bit more. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
- I myself have a Firebird but its the 1994 Trans Am model. What I did with mine was put a KN cold air intake on it first. That is ALWAYS where you want to start when you try to up the performance on a car (especially a beauty like yours). Then I put headers on second. The reason you want the intake on first is solely because if you put any other mods on first such as, headers, or exhaust, it will heat up the engine more than it needs to be. It is safer on your car. And I would suggest KN for a Cold Air Intake, Headers I would suggest Kooks, and for Exhaust I would suggest Borla Catbacks. That is what I have and my car is dynoed at 372 rwhp. You will not get that much out of yours because you have the 3.1 Liter 305 while I have the 5.7 Liter 350 BUT it will still haul some serious $$ and there is no doubt that you will have fun with it! - If your doing it for power or fuel efficiency, your doing it for the wrong reasons. An exhaust system is really only utilized when other performance parts are added like an ECU tune as well as a cold air intake or high performance heads. Also, most exhaust systems don't do much because no1 bothers to do exhaust headers, which are the most important part in my opinion. Your only as good as your weakest link. As for your question, the companies both make good quality stuff. Magnaflows seem to be a little quieter but have a very nice tuned sound. Flowmasters are a little louder (talking 40 series here) and a little more raw sounding. Either is an excellent choice. For trucks, i like the flowmaster 40 series. I hear good things about the 80 series as well. You can always Youtube the mufflers and i'm sure someone has taken a video of a truck like yours with those mufflers. It wont be great sound quality, but it might give you an idea. If your doing this, it'll be for sound, nothing more. If your expecting more power you are going to be really disappointeded.

- If you can find one, i suggest a white brothers exhaust system, but they are hard to find now due to the company no longer manufacturing. I suggest eBay. Other than that talk to a honda dealer they can tell you what else would be the best benefit to your bike.

- The factory exhaust on cars was designed to be quiet and somewhat fuel efficient. Replacing the exhaust allows the engine to breath better, and more air for the engine allows it to expel exhaust gasses faster so the car can burn fuel quicker and the car gets more horespower. I have custom exhaust on my crx and a AEM intake on the crx and a Injen intake on my prelude. Gains vary between 10 to 20 horsepower.
