- Q: I am looking at getting an x pipe and exhaust system. Is a bbk catted x pipe and American Thunder catback by flowmaster a good setup?
- You'll never notice the 2-3 horsepower you'll get with a performance exhaust. The ads for 20+ horsepower are complete nonsense. The only way to that much of an increase is to do some serious mods like a new induction system, new manifolds and porting and polishing the heads. Save yourself a few hundred and keep the stock system.
- Q: i have a 2001 mazda 323 astina hatchback, i want to get an exhaust system on it but i was wondering how much i would be looking at for it. i want it to be loud enough so you can tell theres an exhaust system but not too loud. what type of extractors etc would be best for this?
- The best exhaust is the factory stock. As much as the aftermarket would like you to believe, there is just not much power to be gained by replacing anything from the catalytic converter on back. The smaller the engine, the smaller the gain. About all you get with a loud muffler is a lot of noise. It will sound kind of like an old tractor.
- Q: I have a 2001 Toyota Tundra V8, would a new exhaust system help it in any way?
- I recently installed Gibson headers, high flow JBA cats, a Gibson cat back exhaust, a cold air intake and a throttle body spacer on a 2003 Tundra, The truck was dyno tested before and after. Stock was just under 200 horse power. After it hit 306. And my friend says his fuel mileage has gone from 16 M.P.G. to 19 around town. He also told me he has fallen back in love with his truck he can't wait to drive it every day. We did a lot of work but it was well worth it.
- Q: I have a 1987 s10 2.8l v6. I have a shitty exhaust and catalytic converter. i have a year before my next inspection so i was wondering how much would it cost to take off the cat, and run a new exhaust system without the cat. i‘m talking new piping and new muffler.
- Well, if caught, could cost you and/or the shop doing the work $10,000 since it's a federal offense and that is the maximum punishment for tampering with emissions systems. You can probably buy a whole replacement pipe set (with muffler) from somewhere like summit or jegs, made for your truck, which may save considerable expense and hassle since you can do the work yourself. If that is a flat catalytic converter (as opposed to the newer round ones) then yes, they are pieces of junk, but to keep from smelling exhaust all the time, I'd certainly recommend investing in a $70 replacement one of the high flow varieties. Especially if you are going to have to be tested again in the somewhat near future anyway.
- Q: Hi,I have heard about a type of exhaust system you can install on your car where when you press a button or flip a switch, the headers or some part of the exhaust opens up basically making the car temporarily have open headers. im not sure what type of exhaust this is/what it is called. if anyone knows that would be greatly appreciated. thanks
- Hi. The feature you are discussing is not an exhaust system - it's really just a part you add to your exhaust system. It is more less a gate valve. It is typically installed on a car with headers, right behind the collectors. In one position, it allows the exhaust to flow normally through the rest of the exhaust system (mufflers and tailpipe). In another position, activated by a switch you will install in your car, it will allow the exhaust to flow directly out the side of the car, emulating open headers (andvery loud!). Before this device was invented, some old school cars used a sort of mini Y-pipe behind the collector, with the end facing out the side of the car closed with a bolt on cover. Once at the track (or whenever you wanted to run open pipes), you would just unbolt the cover.
- Q: My exhaust system backfires. it consists of headers, pipes, and mufflers. i have been told that the back fire in the exhaust system (not the carb) would be caused by air in the pipes because of poor welds. i have also heard that an H pipe is the correct way of exhaust work, instead of two isolated straight pipes.is either reason right? aftermarket carb, bypassing emissions controls, ‘84 305 K5 Blazer.
- I own a shop, and have seen this for years. This is caused by the engine sucking air into the exhaust system via a leak. It can usually be found that the gaskets where the headers mount to the heads are leaking, and when you let off the gas it sucks air into the pipes, and explodes the excess fuel that is left over in the pipes. Replace these gaskets, and keep the bolts tight as in check them every couple of weeks. This is one of the drawbacks to cheap headers, as the mounting flange is too thin, and the bolts won't stay tight. As for the H pipe, they work really well. They do help scavenge the exhaust out of the other side as one side fires. Use a piece of pipe, and blow an air hose over the end of the pipe, you can see it form a vacuum on the other end of the pipe enough to suck stuff up into the pipe. This was invented by NASCAR way back in the 60's, and they found a scavenging pipe would increase the horsepower. Also by exiting the pipes at the side of the vehicle the wind going down the side of the vehicle would cause the same effect, and created more horsepower than running them out the back straight. Some people will use a turn down on the ends to capture air flowing under the vehicle, but it's just not the same. One more thing; The backfire can and will sometimes burst the muffler, as I have seen it blow a huge hole in them right at the seams. Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
- Q: The exhaust system includes catalytic converter, muffler, n exhaust pipes. magna flow or flowmaster.
- I don't know what you are trying to accomplish but for a performance stand point it will help a bit.
- Q: How much horsepower will i add to my car if i threw a KN Intake and Borola Exhaust System in?
- About 2 or 3. Mazda didn't leave much potential to be unlocked in the intake and exhaust, they already are pretty free-flowing.
- Q: About how much does it usually cost to replace an entire exhaust system on a vehicle?
- Depends on whether the entire exhaust system includes just what's back from the catalytic converter(s) or if it includes the catalytic converter(s) in what needs to be replaced. The exhaust piping, muffler(s) and resonator(s) are generally not very expensive to replace entirely, relatively speaking. Figure a couple hundred dollars for that sort of a job at a muffler shop. If you need to replace one (or more) catalytic converter(s) though, the cost to replace everything will increase significantly. Catalytic converters are the expensive parts to replace in an exhaust system. Don't be surprised by an estimate near the 4-figure range if you have to replace a catalytic converter (especially if you have to replace more than one) in addition to all the piping and sound control devices etc., downstream of the converter(s).
- Q: i‘m lookin‘ for an exhaust system for my 2007 trx450r and was wondering which one you think would be best and why.
- total waste of money on an injection motor, they work really well on 70s V8s, they just cause the ECU to run the cold start program all the time wasting gas and increasing engine wear
