Q: Ok, so here‘s the deal. I‘m installing a new muffler on my car.The pipe leading to the muffler is 2 1/4 in diameter, or at least a little bit smaller. So do I need a 2 1/4 muffler inlet to fit on it? Or 2 1/2?Same for the exhaust tip, does the exhaust need to be 2 1/4 on a 2 1/4 muffler, or bigger?Answers for weld on and clamp on are appreciated.: You have to take into consideration, the horsepower and volumetric efficiency of your motor, and back pressure requirements. The larger you go, the less velocity of exhaust and back pressure. You need to find out how many cubic cc's of air your intake can utilize, and then the same of your exaust, to see how many cc's it can flow out. That will give you your volumetric efficiency % That will tell you to go larger or smaller, it's minor, but it makes a difference for the life of your powerplant.

If you exhaust is bad and needs to be replaced or you want a different sound and a small improvement in power at higher RPM ,go for it.

Q: i have a 03 lancer es and it needs a little somtin somtin u know. i want to get a good cold air intake and sxhaust but what kinda, and there anything els i should b looken out for in the future: For a base Lancer, go with a KN cold air intake, headers from Road Race Motorsports (specialize in Lancers and Evos), and a Magnaflow exhaust system. All of these items may seem pricey, but will gain you about 20-25 hp. If you're not worried about money, then go ahead and spend a few grand on a full turbo kit from Road Race Motorsports for some real power. You could also sell or trade the car in for an Evo. But work with what you got.

The exhaust can go later, and depending how far you plan on going with the HP level, I would get 3 pipes, backpressure is NOT your friend. The stock heads are still going to be the choke point in the system. If you have plans for replacing them with aftermarket, then anything less then 3 pipes, in my opinion, are not an option.

Q: Before you judge me this was told to a friend of mine about her Lancer. She was told not to buy one because the Lancer cannot stand up to Canadian winters and the exhaust would freeze solid which I didn‘t even think was possible. However I am not anywhere close to knowing anything about cars so I thought I would toss this out to people who do know.Are there any issues with the Lancer‘s exhaust during the cold? Not that bad in my opinion.Thanks!: The exhaust system is essentially just a steel pipe that takes the burnt gas fumes(exhaust) out of the motor so unless theres water or any other liquid inside the exhaust pipes its not freezing and if it were frozen the exhaust temperatures are very hot and would melt the water. Q: i wanted to get a HKS, Injen, or Borla muffler but i wanted to know if it will make my car much louder. will it give it the same sound as if i was to get a full exhaust system. i have a 94 Honda Civic if that makes a difference: it will voice it, but the noise levels, and tone and of course feel can be manipulated.just by changing small things, you can tone it down, up, or free it up.you mean you want your car louder?last exhaust i built was very loud below 1800 rpm, very very throaty, and above got very quiet.when i say throaty, you could hear me coming around 1.5 miles away
