- Q: Who was the first person to own a exhaust system???
- All engines have some sort of exhaust system, so I'm not sure what you're asking. If your quesion is who invented the muffler, it actually predates the automobile by a century. The first mufflers were designed to control the noise of stationary engines used in mines and factories. Exhaust gases were piped to an underground vault, then piped to a chimney. The ratio of the chamber's volume to the diameter of the piping determined the effectiveness of the muffler. By the time the automobile came around, it was already known that the expansion chamber could be a metal can, rather than an underground vault. It was also understood that forcing the exhaust gas through perforated tubing would attenuate high frequency sound. So the muffler was probably part of automotive design from the beginning.
- Q: I‘m looking for a full exhaust system for my 99 Honda civic. I‘m gonna replace the headers as well with performance headers. As we all know 99% percent of all civic on the road with aftermarket performance exhaust sound like ****. Whether we are man enough to admit it most of them do but I‘m looking for a little more performance. I‘m looking for something that will sound ok with a low town to it but i don‘t want that loud noise everyday of my life so is there an exhaust system i can buy with an optional silencer. Ive heard of them but idk if they actually work and where i could get something like this. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!
- what you see on tv it is on tv sure you can do it just do a burn out but things can happen hold front brake with a finger give it gas til it pops and hope you dont bust something besides tire
- Q: Will Porsche choose the 911 carrera s sports exhaust system and the standard difference? How is the optional wave? The
- Sound waves The The German devils will only do the machine, the art effect is a little worse. Less than manic and deliberately stand, Britain's cheap steal man.
- Q: I‘m soon going to put an exhaust on my civic, I want a bit more power and a nice sound. What do you guys think of magnaflow, does it add a good amount of power?, does it sound nice?
- How it sounds is up to you. It's a waste of money as far as providing any useful power increase. You'll never notice the few extra horsepower in everyday driving.
- Q: which would be bettersound wise etcInstalling a full through exhaust system or just installing a 2‘ or so catback on the end?thanks
- A straight through exhaust would be best from a power point of view and sound lounder as theres no restriction. catalystic converters restrict gases exiting exhaust (and may be a bit Quieter) this restricts the engine slightly, you may lose a few horsepower. Having said that, a straight through exhaust would fail the MOT because of emmissions, thats why they make cat back versions u get the sound with the correct emmissions. Otherwise you would have to replace catalystic converter at every MOT-Hassle. Alternatively you could by an HIGH FLOW PERFORMANCE CATALYSTIC CONVERTER with your full system though they cost a bit. 1)If your not botherd about a few HP and don't want grief come MOT time go for cat back. If your a petrol head go for H P cat and fullsystem.
- Q: Hi everyone, I‘m looking for an exhaust system for 1966 Chevy Impala. The one I have now is all rusty, and I cannot for the life of me find a replacement, OEM or aftermarket. Does anyone know where I can get a full system? I‘ve looked at summit, year one, impala bobs, sinclairs, classic induistries, to name a few. And, though I doubt it exists, but does anyone make a dual exhaust to go with the Clifford Headers for an Inline engine? Thanks for the help!
- Worth it cold air is more combustable then hot air go for it
- Q: I keep hearing this. Is it an exhaust system that starts right behind the catalytic converters?
- Anything after your cat to the enr of your car mostly performance wise youll hear that thats when they replace the pipe and muffler
- Q: I have 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, Im wanting to get a nice new exhaust that sounds as close to a V8 as possible. This truck has a 4.0L V6 in it. I prefer to have a dual exhaust. I was considering MagnaFlow, Gibson, or Heartthrob, but I‘m not sure which would be better. Help? Any and all knowledge.
- The problem with questions like this is that 'sound like a V-8' is so subjective. I have two V-8 Fords now, so what I want them to sound like is probably totally different then what you consider a V-8 sound. I've run FlowMasters on my Mustang, that's what's on it now, and it sounds sweet to me. Suggestion - Since it's a 'personal' question, how about going to a car show keeping your ears open. Listen to the cars come go, ask what type of systems a couple of the nicer sounding ( to you ) have.
- Q: ok i drive a 1987 chevy blazer k5 silverado that has a stock 350 in it. a friend of mine suggested a exhaust system called turbos that give it an intimidationg i mean business sound. which is what im looking for. my brother came up with some old turbos that he got off a friend. how can i tell if they are turbos and is there a site that i can go to,to listen to the turbos before i take it to the exhaust shop?thank you
- Because of the increased exhaust flow required for turbo chargers, the mufflers that are used have very little baffling to produce back pressure. Maxflo and others have capitalized on the idea but any muffler designed for use with turbochargers will have better flow and more noise.
- Q: I have a 1986 Chevy Caprice 8Cyl. 5L. Gas, Carb: VINH That has a exhaust system with a Catalytic Converters and a muffler.(Only one pipe) I want my car to run better and go a little faster. What should I buy? And can I upgrade anything else to make it faster? P.S. I just put a new holley carburetor in and the motor is only 3yr. old.
- Not really. A free flowing exhaust will only add performance gains if the other areas of the engine are modified as well such as the air intake and the fuel system. A free flowing exhaust will only help flow more air if the engine is breathing more air through the intake. After the exhaust and intake are improved, then the restriction becomes the cylinder heads along with the intake manifold. You are better off spending the money on engine upgrades such as a performance camshaft, roller rocker arms(possibly even upgraded rocker arm ratio from 1.5 to 1.6), and intake manifold and carb. Headers are another area to add some performance gain. but just adding a performance exhaust won't help you much at all.
