Q: Why does my insurance want to know if I have a full exhaust system on my bike ? Does it make a difference if I tell them I have one or not ? If I buy my bike brand new stock and decide to add a full exhaust, do I still need to tell my insurance ? Why or why not ?
The reason they ask is to determine if the bike has been modified. Adding a full exhaust can (and usually does) increase the power of the bike. To the insurance company: more power more risk higher premium. Now, if you tell them you don't have a full exhaust, and you get into an accident and upon inspection of the bike they determine you did have a full exhaust, the could deny your claim. Technically, you are supposed to inform them if you make any sustantial changes to your bike (exhaust, turbo, nitrous, stretching, etc.). Again, back to my point above, if you make the change and don't tell them and they find out after, you could have your claim denied. That being said, an exhaust system is almost impossible to determine if it's a stock system, vs an aftermarket system. I think it's unlikely an adjuster would be able to look at an exhaust system and absolutely state it's aftermarket. I think in reality, only OBVIOUS performance modifications would really be a problem (stretching, lowering, turbo, nitrous, etc., etc.)
Q: Hi i have a 1991 lincoln towncar and it rides so smooth but i would like it to be a little louder but i dont want to waist more gas so is an exhaust system guna make it waist more gas?Is there a type of exhaust that doesnt waist more gas but is really loud?
It will not affect your milage, unless you drive it hard. However, that is if you get a proper system. If you straight pipe it, or remove the system all together, you will slowly destroy your valves, and you car will not run as well. It will slowly get worse and worse, until you have a leak, which will require you to tear you engine apart and rebuild it. This will happen, and I see cars in my shop like this all too much. don't skimp out, a system will run you 700s at worst. A rebuild will run you 2-3k at best.
Q: My stock system on my ej8 civic coupe (2000) is rusted. What system that looks stock and quiet but has a better flow? What piping diameter is appropriate that won‘t hinder performance?
Really, there isn't much you can do exhaust wise that will be a sleeper for a civic. Only a very expensive exhaust system will actually give your civic a decent tone or you will sound like all those other ricers on the road. Also got to think with all the extra sound you produce you may gain a full 10 horsepower max. If you really don't care about sounding like a ricer and people with real power laugh at you then you can go as far as just replacing the pipe with maybe a 2.25 inch pipe, which will give it a little deeper tone. Get some aftermarket headers either high flow cat or take it out all together if you have no emissions and run straight pipe to a good muffler. I wouldn't really go past 2.25 inch pipe only because you will probably begin losing torque after that and these little engines don't have much torque to begin with and doesn't push enough air to need a bigger exhaust pipe size. I think 2.5 might be just a little much, but it may work.
Q: Today it started making a loud lawn mower type sound. I asked a friend he said my exhaust manifold was cracked. Im sure its omething exhaust system related because i can smell the fumes from the car are pretty strong. I havnt hit or run over anything in the road. The only thing i can think of is from driving my car pretty hard the past few weeks. Im always running late to work.2008 Chevy cobalt LT 2.2 engine i think, 106000 miles on it
Your friend is correct. Sometimes exhaust manifolds just crack for no apparent reason and other times it can take a mechanical impact of some sort to cause a crack or break. Driving your car hard shouldn't cause a manifold to crack but this really does need your immediate attention. Carbon monoxide is nothing to fool around with and you need to deal with this problem ASAP.
Q: I want to get a DC sports 3.0 inch Universal Muffler Round Can Straight Tip but i don‘t know if i just need the muffler, or if i need a whole new exhaust system. i have a 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS S/C so it‘s obviously a new exhaust.
If you need an entire new exhaust system, then you have selected the wrong muffler. Your supplier of the DC sports muffler should be able to provide an adapter to fit the muffler to your current exhaust system.
Q: i need your help because i dont know if its worth getting. does anyone know if it sounds good in person because videos dont always sound the same. and also would it be a good investment for later when i sell the car or would people rather have it stock plz help THANKS.
Nope. Then everyone else will have to pay to pick up your brain matter from the highway when you crash your car.
Q: I own a 05 Acura RSX type S with a race header already installed. I plan on installing a supercharger kit that will produce over 310whp. I just need a list of parts for an exhaust system and size. I don‘t want it to be too Loud. Thanks.
Search in your local area for the specialist exhaust fabricators, and also consult the owners' club members in your area, to find what they have found to work. Consider also, that you can't have it all - you either have a silent exhaust, and lose a lot of power, or a free-flowing exhaust, with a glorious, bellowing animal tone. An over-silenced, small-tube system WILL cost you power, so decide what is more important to you.
Q: I have an 04 Chevy Avalanche 1500, and want to redo the exhaust, I want to make it dual exhaust with 1 1/4 inch pipe, with glass packs. I am also unsure if I can get away with having the catalyst converters or notI live in Sask but do a fair bit inter provincial driving, and do some traveling into the states.Any further ides and how much this would cost would be appreciated.
First off your engine will not run with 1 14 inch exhaust tubing. To be of any benefit you need at least 3 or better in dia. tubing. Secondly it is illegal in the United States for any one to alter your exhaust system between the engine and cat. converter. Especially in California where they do emission tests. If you seriously want to improve your exhaust system you need to contact TTI exhaust systems. They will bring you up to date on what you can and can not do and how far you can go and still be legal.
Q: Tougou tank exhaust system throughput is not correct
Not very right
Q: My girlfriend has a 2001 Subaru Legacy. Recently one of her catalytic converters went bad. She now needs to get that system replaced. She was quoted $1,200 from a trusted mechanic. I was thinking, she s going to have to put a good amount of money into this thing already, are there any options to just replace the whole exhaust with a freer flowing one? Hoping to get that and an intake and hopefully get a little more power out of the car. The only thing is, neither of us want it to be loud. In fact, the way it sounds now is perfect but I understand that a better exhaust may be a bit louder. What s can we get that is less restricting but not a whole lot louder that also is in about the same price range?
You can replace the entire exhaust system if you want, but you still need to replace the defective catalytic converter. New pipes and mufflers would add about $600-$800 to the price. Is a 14-year-old Subaru really worth putting that much money into?
