Q: A Honda timing belt is suppose to be replaced every 90,000 miles but is it necessary to replace the water pump at the same time? How long will a water pump last? I never had a water pump fail on any Honda I have owned. Of course that is probably because I always had it replaced with the timing belt?: Thats why you havent had one fail. have to remove pump anyway.

Q: Our house is situated on very sandy soil. I suspect that my water pump may be getting clogged with sand and silt and other debris. The water flow from the sinks and showers often stops randomly in the middle of the water running only to turn on maybe 30 seconds later. This seems to happen more and more frequently now where as a year ago and beyond it never occurred. Any suggestions?: I would still be leaning towards alignment issues are at play here. What I would recommend is putting it on a dyno, not to check the power but so you can see what is happening while the engine is under a power load. I did build an engine once that could not keep belts on, they spun off. I have seen some truly strange things happen. Perhaps the strangest was a thrust bearing allowed to much crank shaft end play and as a result the starter was binding on the flywheel. Yet another was a cam shaft retainer not installed properly allowed the timing chain to snap. Another possibility is the crank damper pulley and not being seated properly.

Q: I took my car to a repair shop today, cause it was overheating,After looking at it for a few minutes the mechanic told me that it was a water pump problem.They quoted me a price of $276 to totally replace itI called around to my local auto zone stores and found out that the actuall pump cost for a new pump was $39 dollars, and I can get rebuilt pumps for 19 bucks, Is it that labor intensive that it would take so long to put in a 39 dollar part for over 200 bucks labor. Is that a fair deal, or am I getting ripped off.Additional Details, I didn't let them do the job yet, I took the vehicle home and just parked it in my driveway.: It depends but when you go to a shop they usually will double the cost of the part and then the labor goes off of book price. I would never suggest a rebuilt water pump when it only saves you a few bucks.

Q: Last week I took my 1999 Plymouth Breeze to auto zone to get my engine light checked. It came back saying electrical and that my water pump is leaking? So what does that mean, do i have to replace the pump?: An engine scan will not tell you your water pump is leaking. Take it some place that knows what they are doing.

Q: I think my water pump is leaking and I want to replace it, but I can't figure out how to get the pulleys off. There is a large nut on the shaft that the pulleys are on, and I can't figure out how to remove it, or if the nut is attached to the shaft, and the entire shaft is supposed to come out, or how it's set up. Thanks!: The nut that holds the fan on the water pump must be turned clockwise to loosen it,if you do not have a wrench that will fit in there you can use along screw driver and hammer locate the tip of the screw driver on the edge of the nut and hit the other side of the screw driver with the hammer one or two blows should do it,and then spin the fan and see if the nut turnes.If this does not work you need to get the proper wrench.I have done both but i had to buy the wrench from Snap On and another tool to hold the water pump bolts.

Q: And if it needs to be replaced, does that spell trouble for a car? I see a car I might like to buy, but the ad says that the water pump needs to be replaced. Someone please enlighten me. Thanks.: when they said it need water pump that spell big trouble!!!! when water pump went out it caused the car over heated when the car over heated it could be million thing like blow head gasket special in the older car, if you get it cheap enough or vary love the car you can check the oil to see if water mix with it or try to start it up see if it smoking if none of those exit you probably okey to buy but save a lot money for repair later on.

Q: I would like to change the water pump myself but do not have a repair manual.: Im guessing you have the 3.4 liter engine. You will need to remove the pulley bolts first 10mm, then pull off the pulley and the belt. there should be a few 10mm bolts holding the water pump on, remove them and scrape off the old gasket with a scraper and then clean the rest up with some fine grit sandpaper. Don't scrub one area for too long because the surface is soft aluminum. you will need to spray some brake clean on a rag and clean up the surface so there is no coolant or dirt on it. Now put the new gasket on the new pump and put a thin layer of silicone on the side of the gasket that is going to mate with the engine block. Do not put silicone on both sides of the gasket. Make sure to note wich way you took the old pump out because it only goes in one way and torque down the bolts so they are snug, don't overtorque or you will strip the aluminum. Now you will need a half inch rachet to pull back the belt tensioner to be able to put the belt back on. There should be a picture of how the belt is routed somewhere under the hood. Don't forget to buy Dexcool (Red Antifreeze) Make sure you don't mix it with the green antifreeze. Good Luck

Q: i have just bought a coachman 1994 wanderer but water pump do`snt work,there are 3 wires to pump socket inside the van,white,red,yellow,only the white was fitted and reads 12v to earth,the other 2 read 6v to earth, any help as I cant find a wiring diagram on net !: cut all the wires off and lay them on the earth

I moved in December, rain season here in NC, and remember the pump going on and off, now its constantly running, Is it normal for the pump to be running that much? any websites to read up on how a water well works?thanks: i had the same problem... twice. first time was due to a break in the well line. second time was a faulty precharged water tank. i was able to insert smaller soft plastic pipe into the old line, avoiding the backhoe. the second fix was to replace the tank. you do have to watch it tho, i melted my old pump motor due to a brown out. now that i think about it, your impeller could be worn , and the pump cant make pressure. good luck.
