Does buffing engined hardwood floors really work? Could it take out scratches and slight water damage?
Engineered flooring can be treated just like regular hardwood flooring.... UP TO A POINT. Engineered flooring is a product made up of a thin veneer of the preferred wood applied to a plywood backing or base. You can do anything to this veneer that you would do to a solid hardwood, BUT you will be limited to how aggressive and how many times you can do it by the thickness of the veneer. You will eventually wear though the veneer and into the substrate. So unless the water damage has delaminated the flooring, slight sanding and buffing will help remove the damage provided you do not go too far
In my living room I have a brick fire place. When I install the wood floor I wood like it to appear as if the floor was installed first and then the brick fireplace on top of it. How do I cut the brick to slide the wood planks into the brick to achieve the look I want? What tool would be needed?
the only answer is an expensive one, a diamond tipped router bit for Masonry purposes. Gonna cost $50 or more easy. But absolutely worth it if that is what you are looking for.
Wood in 5 wide and 1/2 thick hand scraped birch. Manufacturer recommends 18 ga 1 1/4 staples with 1/4 crown.
If the vinyl is layed directly over the wood sub floor then yes you ll be fine with that size staple. If the vinyl is atop a thin luan subfloor then go to 1 1/2 staple .The thinner 3/8ths wood take a 1 staple. . This is a special nailer (stapler) that you can rent. Takes some getting use to but works great for engineered wood. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Good evening. I'm currently having a contractor install engineered hardwood on my steps. I have 3 planks that are 3/8 think. He is in the middle of construction now.
Engineered Hardwood Stairs
Can anyone give me some advice on placing a wood floor in my living room, hallway and stairway? I was wondering what tools will I need and how can I approximate the cost with 340 estimated sq. ft. with the floor costing 3.75 a square foot. What should I add for waste?

What is better for a townhouse we cannot do normal hardwood due to the concreet bottom so it's between engineered hardwood (Brazilian Cherry Br111) or the wood laminate(Pergo Brazilian Cherry). What's better?
I just attended a Br111 product seminar and came away with a good impression. They are a small company and make a quality product. Engineered hardwood is going to look the same as solid hardwood the only difference being that it is made of 3, 5, or 7 layers of real wood instead of 1. It will look and feel much better than laminate, but is obviously more expensive. If you use engineered, I strongly suggest full glue down installation. This will give a very solid look and feel making the floor indistinguishable from solid hardwood. Floating, hardwoods have proven quite problematic so far. Most Br111 engineered products can be refinished 1 time, laminate can not. If you use laminate, Pergo is a good way to go, having a 25, or 30 year wear/stain/fade warranty.
The solid wood floor in the floor, gold plate, solid wood composite floor of the difference between the three and characteristics'cause I'm gonna mess this upThank you can help
Parquet wood flooring wood with natural appearance, comfortable, noise insulation and other advantages, but also overcome the shortcomings of easy deformation of solid wood flooring (each layer of wood fiber perpendicular to disperse the deformation and stress). And the specification is large, easy to lay.The disadvantage is that the poor quality of the glue will appear degumming. In addition, because the surface layer is thin (especially multilayer), must pay attention to maintenance. So there are restrictions on the use of occasions.

Although the laminate floor has many advantages, such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, compression resistance, impact resistance, easy to clean, care, dimensional stability, etc., but still can not be ignored in the use of scientific maintenance. Baer careful analysis of the floor of the consumer complaints over the years to deal with the situation found that there are a lot of problems caused by improper use of floor maintenance.
