- Q: What do you do to keep your floors clean? Both for carpets and hardwood floors.
- Hardwood floors should be swept everyday and moped every other day. The have special cleaner for wood. For carpet: Vacuum a couple times a week. Get one of those swifter carpet flicks or something similar to sweep up high traffic areas or you can use your vacuum. You could rent or purchase a wet vac so you can condition your carpets or hire a carpet cleaning company to clean your carpets a couple times a year. Every couple weeks you can use carpet cleaning spray and use that to help keep your carpet s clean. The other thing you can do is get that carpet deodorizer. You sprinkle it on the carpet and sweep it up. Makes the house and carpet smell really nice.
- Q: We might install Duraceramic flooring by Congoleum in our kitchen, utility room, family room and office. Looking for comments from those with experience with this type of flooring.
- While I'm not familiar with this particular brand design, I am familiar with tile flooring. The name of the tile indicates that it's a ceramic tile and not a porcelain tile. The primary difference is that a porcelain tile has the color through-and-through while the ceramic tile has a thin top coatings applied to a clay tile. Thus, the porcelain tile is more durable to heavy wear applications or places where heavy dropped items might chip the tile. In normal residential situations, however, the ceramic tile is quite sufficent. As a matter of fact, I just installed ceramic tile throughout my new home. The primary consideration with either tile is the condition of the existing substrate (concrete slab or wood subfloor). Cracks in concrete can transfer through tile but there are installation applications for most situations. Finally, the ceramic tile should be less expensive per square foot then the porcelain.
- Q: Hello,I was looking forward to painting the garage door over the winter vacation, because it keeps peeling and cracking. However, I was wondering how I should paint the floor this time because the last time i did, the paint peeled very quickly. Also, is the temperature too cold to paint? (i am ok painting in freezing temperatures, however will it kill the paint?)Thanks
- Not sure where you live, but, surface temp has to be at least 50 degress in most situations. With concrete floor coatings, prep is the key. An acid solution is imperative to cleaning the floor and it will not harm any existing paint that may be there, it will only attact exposed concrete. A pressure washer is not needed for this application. The floor must dry for about a week. Follow instructions for whatever product that you use. Remember, the acid cleaning has to happen whether you use a latex, oil, epoxy or any other type floor paint. Wait until next summer, perfect months would be april, may, and august, september. good luck.

- Q: I put in ceramic tiles on my first floor like 800 sq feet of it .. anyways i have 2 kids and 2 dogs i was wondering about buying a floor scrubber like one that scrubs and picks up the water afterwards because mopping just doesnt cut it.. what brands do you use or what advice would you give for cleaning these floors other than mopping them every other day!! thanks!!
- I would suggest preventing the dirty floor...less time spent washing. Perhaps you're already doing the following, but if not, these are things that helped me... When our dogs come in, and if it's been wet out, we have an old towel to dry off their feet. If there feet are muddy, we have a warm wet rag to clean off the mud, and then we dry their feet. We have the towel and/or rag waiting at the front door. The kids...eat only at the table. Spills made by anyone are wiped up immediately. No shoes in the house. Vacuum the floors every/every other day. I wash my floors every 4-7 days. I wash all my floors on my hands and knees with a rag, and liquid cleaner, added to hot water. This is the the best way to get your floors clean. Good luck to you!
- Q: Solid wood flooring in the air-conditioned room why Alice
- Floor quality department clearance, high water content, due to air-conditioned room dry, floor water evaporation caused by crack.
- Q: An air freshener of all things leaked on my linoleum floor, and now where it leaked the laminate shine part of the floor is peeling away, exposing the sticky part of the floor underneath. Is there any way to repair this?
- Sorry, you have ruined your floor. Whatever was in the air freshener has destabilized the vinyl covering of the floor and you have a mess on your hands. You could try vinegar on the area to see if the tacky will stop...perhaps..but you cannot restore the finish. IF you are creative, you could paint the floor with polyurethane, but as far as the old finish goes, it's done for. If it is in a spot that can be covered with a mat, then do so..if not, have a new floor installed. IF you are strapped for cash, then try clear poly in an inconspicuous area....if it holds, then do the whole floor...that may restore it to one finish. But, if this is your house and you can afford it, then put down some new flooring. Sorry, Goldwing
- Q: thirteenth floor !! was there one in the twin towers ?
- Level 34? Um, no, both towers had 110 stories. It's not unusual for buildings not to have a 13th floor. It's not the asker's fault that this is so, since it's been a tradition for a long time. I lived in an apartment building that skipped from 12 to 14 and the building had been built in the 1950s. Otis Elevators estimates that 85% of buildings that have a 13th floor do not call it the 13th floor. Back to the actual question: WTC 1 and 2 as well as 7 (all of which were destroyed during the attacks) appear to have had 13th floors; I found references to people having been on the stairwell outside the 13th floor on 9/11.
- Q: Choose the solid wood floor to pay attention to what, after the completion of the pavement to pay attention to how to maintain the problem added: I looked at the answer, I choose from the fine factions, North, pavement for what I stare, after the general I pay attention to what, after all, is more solid wood
- Ground cement leveling layer to ensure that there is enough dryness, to ensure that the moisture content of 8% or less to lay the keel, so as to avoid pavement damp, if it is wood keel, brush pest and paint a paint, low or perennial in the rainy Wet season, then the keel can also add a layer of wool floor or linoleum, so as not to deformation of the floor moisture, solid wood floor foot feel the most comfortable, but the pavement must be careful, but also pay attention to maintenance.
- Q: can i install over the top of existing vinyl flooring
- Two floors is the limit according to my installer. So be certain that there is only one vinyl floor below the new one you are installing. Not only do you have to be certain that the one beneath is well adhered, but you should etch off the no-wax shine for the mastic to glue the new floor with sticks.
