Q: what is a finsih floor elevation on site plan? and does anyone know where i can find a sample and/or handout?
Finished Floor Elevation
Q: What's the best cleaner for laminated hardwood floors?
Hi, I just use warm water and vinegar 1 cup to a gallon. It works well and I prefer something that is natural. I just use a mop that is well wrung out. You do not want to over wet floors. I sometimes buff up with a towel attached to my swifter. Soap-based products and citrus based products leave a residue on laminate making them look dull. It may take a few washings to get rid of the film. It is good to use warm water as it evaporates more quickly.
Q: CONTRACTOR IN TRYING TO FIX BUCKLED FLOOR CREATED AN UNEVEN FLOOR. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF THAT HAPPENED TO YOU?still under warranty.
This factor usually happens when the foundation floor is not straight , if someone could add extra support from the basement this will even up the floor above, whoever installed your floors was probable off level when they did so, and the only way to fix this would be to remove the boards and work with the sub floor, but .....that's too much work and an extra expense to you unless you still have a valuable warranty , I wouldn't bother otherwise. .
Q: Chinese hospitals only have 4 floors ' was a fact of the day at school. Why can't they have any more floors??!
Not a FACT AT ALL!!!!!!!!!! I was just in a Hospital in China.. I was on the 11th floor... Maybe you are thinking they do not have a 4th floor. Since the number 4 is bad luck. You better think twice about that school you are going to. YIKES!!
Q: We have a BIG island in our kitchen and an empty wall behind it.Our flooring is a laminate type. We want to remove the island and put a row of cabinets along the wall. My questions are: Are cabinates installed on top of the laminate flooring? If not, how do we remove the flooring along the wall and possibly use those boards to patch the spot where the island was? We really Hate this island. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Look at where the island and laminate meet. Does it look like the laminate goes under or is their molding at the base of the island. I would also guess that the laminate goes around the island. Laminate boards connect on the ends as well as the sides. You willl not simply be able to insert board to filll the hole, to do it right you will have to reset the boards the entire length. Also, what are you going to do to replace the laminate that you pull off that is against the wall? Sorry to be a pain but i just wanted to know what you are up against before ridding yourself of the island.
Q: Live in a Condo, with someone under me, can i nail down the wood floor without damages tenant under me, the floor is squeaking real badly.
A few, strategically placed, nails but you would have to be careful of any pipes or cables.
Q: I have a dog and I know that floor cleaners are poisonous to dogs. I have heard that you can mix white vinegar with water and it will kill the bacteria and won't hurt the dog. What measurement should I use for the vinegar solution?
Floor cleaners ARE poisonous to dogs, IF THEY DRINK THEM. Use a solution made for floors. Vinegar is only an acid. It has NO soap, detergent, surfactants, etc.
Q: Solid 18mm * 120mm Oak flooring to apply to a pretty smooth flat concrete floor..I am Hearing mixed reviews and horror stories, manufacturer says glue it.. old boys say ply-line and nail.. no underfloor heating.. 12 year old property ground floor 33sq/m to lay HEEELP
noooooooooooooo.....use vapor padding concrete sweats
Q: I have a 9x12 room in my basement, with a concrete floor. The rest of the basement has carpet on 1 1/2 inch sub floor. I would like to bring up the floor in the 9x12 room up 1 1/2 inches and tile. What is the best way to go about this? Vapor Barrier? Solid concrete floor clean and level. In basement. New England weather. Basement is always heated as most of it is finished. Plan on using 3/8" slate or granite tiles
In the UK we would use a screed made up of sharp sand (gritty sand) and cement. As 1 1/2 inches is a little thin it would be best to add reinforcing fibers or a product called SBR to give added strength. Depending on how good you are at screeding you may need a self leveling compound over the top before tiling.
Q: 1987 bayliner capri needs a new floor
a whole new floor would ofcourse require you cut out the old one unbolding any hardware or seats that may be attached to it, when cutting it out be sure u are not going to be cutting thru any wires or hoses, you will need a sheet or two of marine plywood as well as a lot of fiberglass mat and resin, you will want to mount some strips of wood on what it left of the floor edge or the walls if you had to remove the whole floor, this is what you will be screwing the new floor down to secure it, you will want to fiberglass the backside as well as the edges of the new wood before it is put down as well as any kind of spacer blocks you will need to brace the floor off of the stringers or fuel tank or whatever may be below the floor, once you have laid down and screwed the floor to the stringers and supports you will than go over it with fiberglass mat until it is approximately the same hight of what it was before or as high as it needs to be to tie into the walls or other flooring, you can than grind it smooth spray some gellcote and sand, reapply and sand as wanted. if you want it really level you can apply some marine bondo before the gellcote, less time sanding and spraying gellcote. And of course during all of this their is specific ways and technics to applying fiber glass, just laying it down and wetting it in resin does not guarantee a good bond. So are you trying to do this yourself?
