- Q: Our builder is suggesting radiant heat floors and I think though I'd like the warm floors; if we have a problem with it, we would have to tear up tile floors. Anybody had experience with this?
- Are you talking about main floor or basement? If main floor, and basement unfinished, it would be done by staple-up from underneath, and would still be serviceable. If in basement (which is really the BEST application for this type of heat), they would be surrounded by concrete and when they fail, hopefully 50 years later, you would probably opt to quit using it. I'm considering doing this myself--it is a very DIY project (staple-up, that is)--but, so far I've found you need a dedicated boiler or the means to control the temp which has to be in the 110F range. We already have hydronic heat, but would have to adapt it. Is that what you already have? Otherwise, it seems to get rave reviews, and I guess like you I worry about the longevity (fairly new stuff, I think?) but I believe the mfrs. DO stand behind their products---just not sure if that's good enough yet. Hope some more people will contribute here, I want to find out more myself (opinions from users vs. sellers).
- Q: I want rainbow hard wood floors
- You'd have to dye the wood, probably yourself, as wood doesn't come in all the rainbow colors. I do dye work and if I was tackling this I would use my procion dyes, they are what I use on cellulose fibers like cotton & rayon. This would be expensive, time consuming and you might have trouble finding a decent contractor who wanted to deal with it. Since no one does this you'd be figuring out how to do it so expect lots of trial and error. I work with flooring & home design & decorating for work, and am an artist in many media in my real life which doesn't pay the bills but is my true calling. My suggestion would be to find something in more natural tones for your flooring and bring in your color with your soft furnishings, rugs, drapes, etc. and your decorative items. A rainbow floor would dominate the room and make it impossible to change your decorating scheme. Multicolored yarns in carpets have become more popular, so you could carpet with color...and some of the commercially available braided rugs (check capel rugs) are also quite colorful. Interesting idea...has made me think of dying designs on some of the furniture I'm refinishing...
- Q: it is in my bathroom and it is so stuck to the floor i can't get some of it up. any advise? thanks
- Start by removing the wall moldings around all walls and the door. The first piece will be the hardest. Start in one corner and take up the board on the long side. One side will start easier than the other side. Try both sides until you find the easier side and then unsnap as you go. The easier side is often opposite the door. If necessary you can cut down the side with a saw, sometimes you need to. Just set the blade the thickness of the floor. Once you start it comes up easy.
- Q: Which would benefit you the most while doing dumbbell chest presses? laying on the floor and doing the chest press or using a bench to do the dumbbell chest press.
- Dumbells are better. You get a greater range of motion and you hit more muscle fibers like the stabilizer muscles. The muscles that you use quite often in every day life. I almost never bench press. I always use dumbells. I've seen better gains with them.
- Q: ok so my hubby and i just bought a 6 bd 2 bath house.. only problem is the down stairs bathroom floor looked as if the sub floor was bad right by the bathtub well hubby and i pulled up all the sub floor.. well the joist i think it is called there is 3 of them going across one of them when i step on it moves just a tiny bit(im 133 lbs) the 2nd one moves up and down when i step on it and has a split in the middle the 3rd one where the bath tub was is the worse and its soft feeling on the top and feels like it could break.. i was told by a repair man that to fix this problem it would cost WELL over 1,000.. i pulled up the other sub floor in the laundry room that is right next to the bathroom and only separated by a "wall" more like paneling and them joist seem to be fine(no splits, doest move much at all)what should i do and can this be fixed for less the 1,000??thanks
- I hope for now you have gotten something under those board just until you can repair them. Look like you need new ones just go look at them and see what you can learn . take notes and draw pictures if possible and a tape measure go to your local hardware store they could problably help too!
- Q: I am looking for a kitchen floor. I do not want ceramic tile and I am leery of hardwood. I was looking at cork flooring and wanted to know if anyone has it in their kitchens and if they like it or not. Is it hard to keep clean?
- Cork is a great flooring material if you are looking for resliience and soundproofing. However, it is not a great material for the kitchen. Have your considered rubber flooring? This is making a great comeback after years of absence. Rubber flooring has many of the same qualities as cork. Rubber flooring is scuffproof, great underfoot if you stand working long periods in the kitchen, easy to maintain, soundproof and can last up to 50 years. It now comes in great patterns such as marble and granite. The only caveat is to be sure you have a good clean subfloor in order to create a good bond with the tile's backing.
- Q: My teacher assigned an ABC project where we use the ocean floor's features for each letter, i got most of them i just need help with F, Q, X, and Y.
- F - Floor as in Ocean floor which you mentioned. If it was a snake it would of bit ya F- Flora which grows from the Floor
- Q: How do you remove excess vinyl flooring glue from the walking surface of a newly installed floor?
- You could try scraping it off with a scotch brite pad and some water. You could try a razor blade but try it without cutting the floor. Otherwise, you could try a solvent or mastic / glue removal. If it's fresh vinyl, you could easily mark up the vinyl. Make sure it's completely dry before removing the excess so you don't ruin it. You could get the glue remover at Home Depot, Lowes or Ace Hardware store. You could also try the link below. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
- Q: It is estimated that the cost of constructing an office building that is n floors high isC(n)= 3n^2+500n+842thousand dollars. How many floors should the building have in order to minimize the average cost per floor? (Remember, your answer must be a whole number.) ______ floors
- If the cost per floor is C(n) = 3n^2 + 500n + 842 then the average cost per floor would be this function divided by the number of floors n: A(n) = (3n^2 + 500n + 842)/n A(n) = 3n + 500 + 842/n This is the function we want to minimize, so take it's derivative: A'(n) = 3 + 0 + -842/n^2 To find possible max/min values, set the derivative equal to zero: 0 = 3 - 842/n^2 842/n^2 = 3 842 = 3n^2 n^2 = 842/3 n = sqrt(842/3) = 16.753 Since we can only have whole number answers, our answer must be either 16 or 17 A(16) = 600.625 A(17) = 600.5294 So our answer will be 17 floors
