Q: in 2002 the old owners of our house had a linoleum floor put down by professionals. it's the linoleum square type, not sure exactly what they are, it's supposed to look &quot;vintage&quot;. the old owners told me it's put over 2 1/4&quot; heart of pine floors. (we would prefer to do the work ourselves...): Id deffinitly get a floor scraper, and once you remove all the old tile I would get a floor sander and sand down the old wood floor before applying stain and urethane. If there is alot of nails in the wood floor, you might want to consider putting down a wood laminate floor over the pine floor if you cannot salvage the old foor.

Q: I just purchased some floor tiles that are suppose to be easy to install. All the direction say you have to do is just attach them to your floor (it sticks on one side) but they won't stick to my floor! Mature, helpful answers only, thank you! :): You are going to have to scuff(sand )the surface of the tiles to allow adhesion. You will need to thoroughly clean after sanding the area(vacuum, wipe). Test one area first before applying the tile to the rest of the floor. If you have problem areas where the tiles just don't stick you will need to get a waterproof bonding agent that seals exceptionally well. Use a sealant afterwards for repel water.

Q: I just intalled new laminate flooring in my home and have heard contratonary advice on how to clean it any suggestions? Is water ok?: Use a spray bottle with just water on the fine mist setting, hold sprayer 4 feet from floor and spray a wide path ,then mop with clean heavy terry cloth towel ...this can be done just by putting the towel on the floor then mop head on top of towel.. tten is best and won't ruin the shine... FYI this is the old way of doing it...and the floors will last 20 years or more this way.

Q: i'd like to level them from the floor joists, not adding another floor over the existing ones: start by removing all of your finish flooring and sub flooring. locate your highest point in the room. easiest way to do this is with a laser line level. you can set it up about 12-24 inches from your joists the measure up from tops of each joist in a few spots. once you determine the high point you will have to sister in new joist to the existing ones at this height using the laser line(you can also string lines if laser is not available. much more work) i would recommend using an adhesive like pl-400 and using deck screws to fasten your new joists. pl will prevent squeaks and screws are great fasteners for more accurate leveling. easier to back a screw out than pull a nail!!. so make a material list and get started!!! basically you will need same linear footage as you have already in your floor. make sure also your height will not become a problem with existing doors. Honestly unless you are putting a pool table in this room i dont see any reason to make a room perfectly level. its alot of work. i know this from many years of renovations Goodluck!!! if you have any other questions throught this process i can help you further just mail me !!!!
