- Q: It will be in my room on the second floor. I am building it myself, as well as the stand. Will it come crashing through the floor of my house?
- No, crashing through the floor is just a myth. What it can do is gradually warp the joists, causing a sag and more subtle structural damage the inspecters will notice if the home were to be sold. That said, in any decent built and good condition home can handle the tank on the second floor - just put it along a load bearing wall. I never had a tank that big, but I did have a 110 gallon full of rocks for rockdwelling fish on the upper story of a townhouse with no issues.
- Q: I am looking at a home from 1939. i know asbestos was used from like the1970's back very often.i want to lay down different flooring in the kitchen, however i do now want to mess with the removal of the crap(asbestos)is there a way to put flooring down without having to get all this professional removal done. and no i don't want to mess with doing it myself either.
- If the floor is in good shape, and there no local ordinances about removing the previous tile why not. If there is asbestos in the flooring, which I doubt, It is safer to leave it where it is and seal it under a new floor. Pry up a corner and look to see how many layer you have though. It may be that things are getting kind of tall in that kitchen in relation to the adjacent floors. If there is damage in the old floor and gaps between tiles you will want a filler product and check to see how level the floor is too. You may have to level it if it has deformed appreciatively over the years. Check some of the DYI sites here on the web some have very good tutorials and product recommendations.
- Q: Last night around 11:30, my dad woke up and told my mom to clean the floors. He said it was a mater of life and death, and when she refused, he locked her outside her room. He then slammed my sisters door over and over again and threw random stuff. He then started mopping all the floors over and over again, and opened all the windows. I haven't seen him at all today. What the heck is going on?
- Floors are a mans pride and joy. Don't mess with the floors.
- Q: The sub floor in my kitchen was nailed in. About 10 years ago I put down vinyl tile squares and within the past 10 years the nails have been coming up through the tile. I am about to replace the floor with a vinyl sheet, I don't want this to happen again so how can I prevent this without taking out all the nails in the entire floor and replacing them with screws?
- If possible take up the old floor ( best to do) and put down a new sub floor commonly called luan. But this can go over the old subflooring. 1/4 thick and smooth on one side. Try not to use screws since the screw head can show through the vinyl. Use a staple gun or hand stapler. Rent this anywhere tools are rented. The staple is designed not to come back up. You can get a hand one or pneumatic gun. Then do the vinyl after the seams are treated.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.. GL
- Q: I want to remove the laminate flooring and put tile in what tools do I need to use and how do you get the glue off
- something to scrape the floor is about all you will need. the glue, well, scrape, scrape and then scrape some more. sanding will also work. whats under the laminate? If it is anything other than cement then you are going to have to lay cement board and if that is the case then you don't necessarily have to scrape the glue perfectly flat. you can also go to your local home depot and buy something that will soften the glue up. good luck
- Q: I just had tile put down in my kitchen. And I hate it, Some of the squares are cracking and the floor is hard to keep clean.I need to know another flooring that will be good for high traffic in the kitchen. The main flooring under the tile is plywwod that's what all the floors are made of in my house. Is that gonna be a problem no matter what floor I choose?
- I sell floors for a living. Your tile company should have installed backerboard under that tile. If it has been less than a year (most companies have a one year labor warranty) MAKE THEM FIX IT. If their labor warranty is expired, sue them and make them fix it anyways. You paid good money for that floor...make them do it again right. And you can install most any floor covering you want over a plywood floor. If you don't like the cleanability of ceramic (grout can be a pain to maintain), then consider a solid vinyl tile, like Adura from Mannington. That's what I have in my house. Love it, easy to keep. Good luck
- Q: My family room and kitchen are one large area, I am hesitant to put a laminate floor in the kitchen because of the dog running in and out of the kitchen to outdoors and getting the floor wet with snow or rain. Will that be a problem with a laminate kitchen floor?
- It can be if you don t take precautions..You can t get water on it with out wiping it up right away..Standard size dog usually isn t a problem, but large energetic dogs with large nails can be..Rugs and not getting water ( from the sink also) is a big help..GL
- Q: If so have you made it on every floor?and whats on every floor? Is it freaky?

- Q: I am having laminate floors installed on my 1st floor concrete slab. They keep testing the himidity. It has been to high. I have been running two dehumidifiers for 2 weeks, tore out my laminate floors.....What else can I do? Should I put a sealer on my floor? What kind- a waterproof or a water base????? HELP ME!!! THANKS!
- Hi, If you are laying laminate over a concrete floor you should lay down a damp proof membrane (DPM) first to protect the laminate from moisture. If your floor is new the concrete has to have cured or you will have problems. Hope this helps.
- Q: Will water hurt Pargo flooring
- You CAN use pergo flooring in a kitchen with good results.. Keeping it clean is a simple process. Sweep your floors OFTEN to rid the surface of dust/dirt and food particles.. You can also mop just don't saturate the floors with water. A slightly damp mop will take off most spots.. You can also use a liquid spray cleaner like BRUCE for spot cleaning which will protect your floor and make it shiny. I personally, don't like wood flooring in a kitchen especially if you have wood all over the house it seems to make roooms appear smaller and more closed in.. However, with the right amount of wood in a home it can be a nice and easy to care for addition to a home..... I would do a ceramic tile or something more durable and easy to care for instead of wood....
