- Q:I have a 99 ford escort zx2 and i seen the air intakes on ebay,i thought about buying one,do they work? Does it make a difference from the 20 dollar one to the 200 dollar ones.What are the benefits?
- Well the cold air intake only work best in bigger engines and if youll put it in a 4 cyl it will sound like a bee. Air intakes help by making the car sound better and help alittle by increasing the hourse power. As far as money wise. go for good brands like Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Specture. Not sure about the $20 maybe it was a used one. check out youtube and here how each brand sounds depanding how many cyl you have too.
- Q:I want to learn how to upgrade my car. I have an 07 corolla and I would like to install a cold air intake.The only upgrades or car work I have ever done was changing my own oil, checking hoses, really really basic stuff.I‘m pretty good at following guides. - If the CAI is specefic to your car it won't make any damage, but don't think that it raises power too, on high performance engines maybe help with air flow, but in a stock engine it work the same way that the stock intake, only that the CAI would make the engine sound louder and funny, it's a cheap good mod and the better of all, it may come with a washable air filter!
- Q:1) If i get a cold air intake, what are the chances of hydrolocking my engine when i drive in the rain or through a puddle?2) is a ram air intake any different?
- It wont hydrolock because it still has a filter on it and wont allow much water through. Ram air usually pulls air through a hood vent or under the bumper and cold air just pulls from under the hood.
- Q:some people say it barely helps giving you 2 hp. Some also say that it gave them 15 hp and its amazing. Please give your experiences.
- It is not worth it to buy a after market cold air intake. The filters do not flow any better than a good clean paper filter. You can buy many paper filters for the price of one reusable and with the res-usable ones you have to buy the recharge kits to clean them which cost just as mich as buying a new paper filer. And most after market cold air intakes get the air for the engine from the engine compartment not out side the engine compartment like any factory air intake on any car made in the last 20 years. Meaning that the so called cold air intake is really pulling in hot air from behind the radiator to feed the engine. they will make the car louder but that is just because they do not have the case around them making them louder. I guarantee that you will see Absolutely no noticeable difference in either power or fuel mileage by replacing the air intake. THE ARE A SCAM I have had After market air intakes on 2 different vehicles that i have owned and both were taken off and replaced with factory parts. And of course if you upgrade the exhaust you will notice a change but that is in the exhaust not the air intake.

- Well cold air is good to make horse power and burn the fuel better. Here is the fall back on some. Those that air open engine bay heat is not much better than the stock filter in the cold air box. They let more air go through than a stock filter. Free flow air filter can be got to to going your cold air box. It is the best of both world. More horse power and cleaner burn fuel. Yes it will give you a bit better gas mileages. How much better depend on the engine and the state of maintaince it is in. It depend on how one drive as well. Any gain is better than nothing. If it run cleaner it is using the fuel better and take a little less to do the same work. Plus the filter can be cleaned and reused over and over again. So it save you money buying more filters in the further. If you are getting 10 miles per gallion per tank. You will see some increse in the miiles per year. Some will gain more than others. Every little bit help. It help your engine run better. Those that have ii open in the engine bay will give you less because they use engine bay air and the heat of the engine. Not turely cold air. But they are free flow air cleaner and burn the gasages in the engine compartment. They will give less power because the air is hoter. The gain is not per tank. Eack give you a little better milageage. Some are better than other. They require that are kept clean to work right. The cold box is the best ones out there in my book. Cause cold air box get the air from out side the engine bay. It keep it a way from the engine bay heat. The air is much cooler. That is one of the reason they when from oil bath filter and dry filter on top of the air horn in the frist place. To get colder air to the engine to work better with a cleaner burning of the fuel. They add tub to the front of the vehicle and to the air cleaner housing. That brought gas milage up.
- Q:I see a few small hoses but there is a wire that is mounted by a metal piece on top of the hose. I‘m replacing my hose Saturday but I don‘t know how to take off this metal bracket. I can reuse it right?2001 Mazda Protege
- The other tubing is most likley vacuum lines for various apllications (cruse controll fuel pressure regulator ect) now, because of the year of the car i would say that it dose not have a mass air flow sensor its most likely a map (manifold absolute pressure sensor) dont go prying stuff apart, thats just bad advise. i would take it to a shop or let someone who knows what there doing fix it for you. EDIT: ? Lol yeah i said it backwards, i ment that it has a MAF not a MAP and i was using other vacuum lines for a point of refrence, not nessicarly exactly what they do, if i wanted to i could use Alldata or Mitchells on demand to tell you exactly what the lines are for. I wasnt tooting my own horn btw, its been a long week and its kinda hard to think straight right now.

My question is will the cold air intake give me a NOTICEABLE difference in starting off the line? Will it accelerate faster? - Carefully look at your present air filter box. Usually the air intake snorkel for the air cleaner box is between the left front fender and the inner fender well. If your car were mine I'd drop in a high flow air cleaner (KN) in the present air cleaner box. The incoming air is already cold and you'll never have to worry about water getting into your intake as do many high dollar cold air intakes.

- well kn is prolly best and the difference is small. All it really does is have a bigger filter for more air intake and the tubes will be smooth stainless steel for better faster flow where as the stock will have the ridges in the bend of the tube which restricts flow. This might give him 1 or 2 mpg better. And usually these are put on for performance purposes. And putting this on for that reason wont do anything unless u have an exhaust. All that air comming in but it isnt going out any faster so ur not gaining anything. But this is known to give you 5-7 horses. U wont even noticed it. All it does is look good under the hood. They are kind of a waste of money unless ur gonna go with a good exhaust and headers.

- That's a really good question, because it's pretty hard to stump me But you have I'm sure they do rebuilds, but I'm only fairly sure the transmissions that come from the manufacturers are ready to go They might tweak them, before putting them in a car, but I'm not sure what kind of tweaks NASCAR allows
- Q:In your opinion, what is the best air intake system for a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport?
- Most of the well known aftermarket air intake systems are pretty much the same. They all use a bigger tube and a free flowing air filter. Some of them have a splash guard so water wont slash up and get sucked into the intake. Those are recommended. If you don't want the hassle of having to take the filter off and cleaning it and then having to spray oil onto it, stay away from the KN, because that is what you have to do. I used the KN intake as an example in my other answer just as a generic answer as an example, but I would not use it. There are others out there that are great and do the same thing. Buy a good brand name is my best answer and stay away from things on Ebay that are no name, not known products.
