- Q: ok guys i have a 02 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 2.4 L (MT)ive done alot of exterior (body kits, lights, spoiler, borla exhaust system. well want to put air intake, but which one is the right choice? cold air is good but can cause hydrolock, ram air is good but i believe can over heat? going by what friends tell me. what is the best option and brand to get.
- Kragen has a Cold Air Intake design kit. It's a bunch of plastic tubes you connect together to design the intake. The kit is $10 or so. Then you can order the actual aluminum component parts and assemble the intake. It shouldn't cost more than 40-60$. Yes, it can hydrolock so either don't drive in the rain or get a water bypass valve to connect in-line with the intake. There is no right or wrong brand. It's all in the filter and the number of bends in the piping. If you're in California you must purchase a carb-approved (search dmv website) intake.
- Q: i am planning to go with air intake for my 01 maxima. just need to know is theres any cons? and whats the pros.does it gain power or loss the power at all? i heard it changes the sound of your cars engine it gives the growl type of sound which is great but does it gain any HP at all? please advice. thanks.
- Yes they are mainly for looks and give you the growl sound. Depending on how much horsepower you have now will determine how much you gain. At 100 HP you will gain like 2-3 HP. 200HP gain 5-7 HP. At 300 HP gain 15-20HP, it also depends on your exhaust system, with a stock exhaust you will get minimum gains.
- Q: I added a Jet Chip to my car (2007 Magnum 3.5HO) and was very satisfied, now looking to add a little sound and a couple more ponies. KN is generally more expensive, but claims ease of installation and a great reputation Does anyone have experience w/ KN or other Brands names?
- Do as you are, BUT : #1 don't close the throttle all the way. Use it to regulate your speed. #2 DON'T pull the clutch in 1/2 way. Don't worry about the no engine braking signs. Those are meant for the large deisel trucks. They have a special engine braking system (aka Jake brake) that can be very loud.
- Q: I ordered this air intake with the pipe and cone on ebay and when i got it and tried to install it.the cone sat right next to my distributor very close to the upper radiator hose as well. which didn‘t make sense to me because alot of heat is commin from that area right?where does the cone suppose to be.I drive a 95 integra gsr
- I have a 1997 Integra and my cone is right up near the front on the passenger side where the COLD air comes in though a hole where the factory intake used to be.
- Q: I would like to know more about cold air intakes and how reliable they are. Most importantly though, I‘d like to know how much more reliable they are and roughly how much better fuel effeminacy I‘ll get.
- If you run electric current through it yes.
- Q: Hello, on my Camaro i have one of those big KN cold air intakes (the fipk).how often should I take the cone(scoop) part off and clean it. What advantages could I gain by doing this?
- well i have a KN air intake kit on my truck, i was told by someone from KN to clean it every 50,000 miles or 25,000 miles if your on dusty or gravel roads all the time, but you have to use their KN filter cleaner and filter oil, i have a 12 oz aerosole can of the oil and a 32 oz spray bottle of the cleaner, both together actually cost the same as a fram stock filter for my truck, not the reusable one either, the kind you have to replace, they were about $10 each and they'll last a few cleanings i think, at least 2 or 3 im sure, so its worth it, just make sure to not over oil the filter because the oil can get on your mass air flow sensor but it will be fine as long as you don't over oil it
- Q: Should I upgrade my cold air intake?
- the picture you showed is a picture of a vent and not an airtake. considering you dont know what an air intake is, you most likely have a stock air box. cold air intake do add some hp (2-10) but you also have to keep them clean and prevent them from sucking water in or else you can hydro lock your car since the air intake is closer to ground. most after market air intakes come with a cone shaped air intake, popular brand names are kn, injen, aem. why cold air intake works: it takes in colder air which is denser so more air can enter the chamber and more fuel be added (not signifcant amounts, your only looking at 2-10hp increase). the ecu will adjust for this automatically most of the time but one down fall is keeping the filter free of dirt and water and decrease in fuel economy.
- Q: Does anyone have any opinions on a Roush Cold Air Intake, whats the best ones?
- The cold air is located anywhere but on top of the carb/throttle body ( where the name became popular) Back in the day the filter boxws sat right on top of these engines and soaked heat from them. It may make some bit of defference but nothing your really going to feel in the butt. theupside to it would be a reuseable filter and better filtration technology.
- Q: Chosing air intake system?
- I would seriously go with a Short Ram intake. Its a dry filter meaning it dosent need to be oiled and or replaced often. Also with Cold Air intakes, they are usually mounted down in your wheel well where they suck up water and dirt on a constant basis. Unless you are running your car on a race strip, stay away from the cold air, go with the Short ram. What kind of car is it also? Look at INJEN intakes.
- Q: I‘m driving a 2003 Explorer Sport Trac. I‘m looking into making it a little faster, and I was planning on buying a KN, specific model for my truck, but I just recently heard about the universal ones that are much cheaper, and supposedly work just as well. Do they really work just as well? I‘m looking for torque and horsepower, but specifically I want that v6 to sound a little nicer and have better gas mileage. Thank you.
- In my opinion, the best buy for the buck would be keeping the stock air cleaner assembly, but install a KN air filter (they make them for stock air boxes too), if you really think you need one. Spend the money you save from that cold air intake and invest it in a good catalytic converter on back low pressure exhuast system. That also helps horse power and torque and you'll have that sound with you all the time. But, don't expect much more than 10 extra horse power either way you go,
