- Q: I am looking to buy a cold air intake for my Honda Civic 2001 LX. A lot have told me that name brand intakes like AEM, INJEN and K N give horse power and the $ 70 intakes on ebay dont. Some have told me that they all just do the same job and the brand is just the difference. I just want to know what should I buy and is it worth buying those unbrand named intakes.
- They are not all the same, but the differences are negligible. The big compaines do a lot of engineering so they will design the intake tubes to flow the air as efficiently as possible. The OKorder brands just use a pipe. For the money saved, I would get the cheapest one. A couple things to remember though. The air filter is the most important part and it is much better on the name brand intakes. If you want, you can get a cheap intake, then go to an auto parts store and get a good generic cone filter to use. Just make sure it is the same diameter as the intake pipe you are using. Also AEM intakes use what they call an air bypass valve on their cold air intakes. Basically this is just a safety measure that will keep your car from sucking up water if you drive through a deep puddle. If you get a cold air intake it is in your best interest to buy one of these and put it on. They work with almost any intake and aren't too expensive. I know someone who hydrolocked their engine because they had a cold air intake. They didn't have the money to fix it and so were stuck for 4 years making payments on a car they couldn't drive while they drove around in $500 beaters.
- Q: i just bought a honda civic 1997 and everything was nice and at a reasonable price so i purchased it. he told me before hand it had everything but an air intake. so i said ok since those are minor and pretty cheap to buy. and when i drive my car it has a nice whistle air sucking sound like a turbo and it‘s pretty cool. so do i even need an air intake. what can happen if i dont put one in. what does it do anyway?
- Two things will happen. 1 is that it will suck dirt and dust and what ever else feel like getting suck in at the time. 2 is that it will suck to much air and will run to lean which will burn valves in the cylinder head. Although it sounds good the ringing of the cash register wont sound that crash hot when you get the bill for repairs.
- Q: so do cold air intakes really do what they say? the basic claims are small horse power gain 1-5 and better gas mileage and better throttle response i hear and read people say they do work they don‘t so much i just really wanna know what the real deal is before i buy one can anyone help me out?
- The one really true thing about *aftermarket cold air intake systems is the price you pay for them. Why would you spend hard earned money for something your car comes from the factory with? Follow the outside air intake tube that fastens to the plastic air filter box. It's neatly tucked up under the left front fender inside the plastic fender well. If you want a free flowing high performance air cleaner KN makes one that will fit inside your present plastic air cleaner housing.
- Q: I have a 1992 bmw 325i and was wondering if an air intake would be worth it. If it would give it more power or if it would be bad for how it runs. If anyone knows about what this would do please let me know thanks.
- Intakes don't tend to give massive, noticable gains. You WILL see gains on a dyno, but nothing you;ll feel. The real, noticable, benefit of an intake, is the throaty motor sound you get when using them. They give you audio horsepower:-) Good Luck! -Ben
- Q: I was wondering if I were to buy a cheap cold air intake from ebay but replaced the filter with a performance one (K N filter), would it virtually be the same thing as an expensive CAI? I understand that it wouldn‘t be as pretty in regards to looks, welding, etc., but I was just curious if i would still see the slight boost in HP, MPG, and still get that great CAI sound. Or has anyone had any experience with a cheap CAI? Any input would be great. Thanks.
- I have used them with good results. I think the main difference is that the more expensive kits route the filter to a better location to pick up colder air. The best gain is when you get better air flow and cooler air.
- Q: I have a 2004 grand prix gtp supercharged and wanted to put a cold air intake on it. But my mechanic said I really wouldn‘t get a noticeable power difference. He said it would do the same thing if I just put a good air filter on. Im just wondering what other people have done and what they think. Thank you.
- x ray diffraction. they have different, (yet similar) diffraction patterns. wer
- Q: whats a good cold air intake for a Dodge Ram 2008 at a reasonable price? But it‘s not a cheap one as in quality of the pipe And the air filter
- The one that the car came with. They are all ripoffs, there is nothing I gain from telling you this, the people that are trying to sell you a cold air intake which you already have, do stand to gain from trying to make it seem like you'll gain something from their product.
- Q: Like i said i have a cold air intake and a o/r x pipe on my Mustang Gt. Also i have dynomax race bullets. The check engine light is on.but that should be just from not having cats anymore. And this might be a stupid question but it cant be normal for when i stop driving and get out of my car and i go touch my cold air intake.its really really hot, kinda figured it would be cool to the touch.
- I'm going to assume you put the intake filter in the engine bay. They don't really work all that well. The only real way you see a performance increase is when you get the intake that you feed through the side wall under the fender. If you want even better performance, you get rid of the wheel well and install a 90 degree angle cover around the cone filter and you'll increase your power band in the higher rpm region. The only problem with having the intake feed underneath the fender without the wheel well is you expose some wires, vaccum line sensors, and you cant drive in the rain for too long or you'll suck up too much water. You'll have a water injected car if you drive in light rain and make some serious power but too much water will have you bend a valve and/or flood the car. Its the way I have my 99 cobra setup and I ride along side 02 ws6 trans ams and beat them in the rain!!! I've done it so I know!!!
- Q: I have a ‘04 Chevy Monte Carlo SS Supercharged. I swear I read somewhere that a supercharged (or turbocharging for 4-cyl.) vehicle has no use for a cold air intake for whatever reason. I can‘t think of where I might have read it or find it again. If I put one on, will I get more horsepower out of it or will it just be a waste of my time and money?
- I have worked on alot of General Motors 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo SS Supercharged. Only Thing A Supercharger Is Vertually An Air Pump! Forcing a determined amount of air into an engine! Turbo charging a vehicle like a chevette
- Q: I have a 04 mazda rx8 and I wan‘t to buy a kn typhoon air intake for it, I was just on the kn website and when I checked under my year for application it says fits 2004 1.3 R2 f/i exc. eu what does the exc. eu mean?
- Instead of that air intake system you can install a Turbo kit of a brand (such as Greddy, HKS, Apexi, Turbonetics) and instal an air Filter
