- Q: What is the car engine's intake system called?
- General engine intake system composed of such a, you look intuitive, you are a few cylinders of the car there are a few intake manifold, intake manifold directly connected with the cylinder head, through the cylinder into the valve; into Gas manifold is connected with a regulator chamber, one of the pressure regulator is attached to the valve body, that is, we often say that the throttle body assembly, above the idle stepper motor and throttle position sensor; And then forward, is the rubber intake hose, and then forward, is the air filter, and air filter in front of the direct access to the atmosphere. The so-called natural intake, that is, the engine four strokes every run to the suction stroke when the cylinder head by the camshaft control of the intake valve open, the cylinder of negative pressure inside the intake manifold into the cylinder process. The principle of the T-car intake is actually the same, except that the exhaust manifold (exhaust manifold) is connected to the turbocharger exhaust inlet and the exhaust gas flow is used to allow the turbine inlet Of the gas pressure from the other end of the regulator chamber, and from the valve at one end into the fresh air into the intake manifold, this time the intake air pressure is much larger than the natural intake, when the engine suction stroke start , The amount of gas into the cylinder will increase, pressurized to complete.
- Q: I know there‘s a lot of controversy with cold air intakes on cars and I‘d just like to see for myself. I own a 2002 Toyota Solara V6 and I‘m looking for some more efficiency as well as whatever power (if any) a CAI gives you. I don‘t want a loud one simply because I don‘t want to look like a ricer. Is there anything out there besides my factory air box that will keep things quiet?
- Toyota recommends the use of 91 or higher octane fuel in your car for improved peformance . The 91 will also give you more mpg's. this only works with the v6 motor like you said you have. I would highly suggest using 91 or higher if u want more peformance and mpg's. check your owners manual if you want to be sure. A CAI doesn't do much for power. The filter is getting air in the engine bay and that air is hot due to the heat off the motor. So where does this 'cold air' come from? It's doesn't. Unless you custom make an intake to run air from OUTSIDE the car. That air will more more cool then under the hood.
- Q: I am looking to buy a cold air intake for my Honda Civic 2001 LX. A lot have told me that name brand intakes like AEM, INJEN and K N give horse power and the $ 70 intakes on ebay dont. Some have told me that they all just do the same job and the brand is just the difference. I just want to know what should I buy and is it worth buying those unbrand named intakes.
- They are not all the same, but the differences are negligible. The big compaines do a lot of engineering so they will design the intake tubes to flow the air as efficiently as possible. The OKorder brands just use a pipe. For the money saved, I would get the cheapest one. A couple things to remember though. The air filter is the most important part and it is much better on the name brand intakes. If you want, you can get a cheap intake, then go to an auto parts store and get a good generic cone filter to use. Just make sure it is the same diameter as the intake pipe you are using. Also AEM intakes use what they call an air bypass valve on their cold air intakes. Basically this is just a safety measure that will keep your car from sucking up water if you drive through a deep puddle. If you get a cold air intake it is in your best interest to buy one of these and put it on. They work with almost any intake and aren't too expensive. I know someone who hydrolocked their engine because they had a cold air intake. They didn't have the money to fix it and so were stuck for 4 years making payments on a car they couldn't drive while they drove around in $500 beaters.
- Q: Which type of piping should I use to make a custom car air intake? I‘m not making it for HP gains but want to do it as a fun project / be unique. My choices of material are: ABS / PVC / Aluminum / Steel Which would take in air at cool temperatures and are more resistant to heat?
- Choosing the material you use is only secondary to the design you go ahead with, and the way you incorporate this into your existing setup There are a number of reasons for this; the main reasons include how the system was engineered overall. You should tune the system to each application - the length of the overall tubing, the diameter of the tubing, and the minimal number of bends all work together to make the system create the maximum power from your motor. But to answer directly, I personally would go with Steel for the main pipes and bends and use Silicone adaptors for your hose clamps. Not only will this combination provide the strongest resistance against pressure - it also looks the goods as you can polish the steel and choose the silicone color that best matches your car. I wont get into the whole arguement about pods vs. stock MAF units etc etc, because as you said ' I am not making it for HP gains' which tells me you are 'not an idiot' Have fun and hey - send some pics of the finished product when you're done! My source is my head, but I have listed in there a website that I found that has a really nice writeup on how to setup a cold air induction - AND it supports my answer hee hee!
- Q: Do normal cars bought from a dealer have a cold air intake system? If not, would it be wise to add one to say a Toyota Highlander or a Honda Civic to improve the mileage and horsepower? Thanks everyone!
- Truthe be told, all cars have a cold air induction set up. The stock components however, may not allow airflow to enter smoothly enough or allow enough air to enter the intake. Yes it increases horsepower and yes it would be wise to air to a Civic, and maybe wise for the Highlanderjust don't take the Toyota offroading with a cold air intake and get the filter wet, otherwise you'll suck water into the engine.
- Q: What is the best cold air intake to put on my Ford Mustang?I accept ALL opinions! (btw I was thinking KN?)
- RE: 2001 Mustang V6 Cold Air Intake? What is the best cold air intake to put on my Ford Mustang? I accept ALL opinions! (btw I was thinking KN?)
- Q: Im just curious, Im thinking about putting in an AEM CAI, and an exhaust system, and I‘ve read how they can improve torque and hp. thanks
- Cold air intakes like cowl induction on Chevrolet and ram-air on Buicks and Pontiacs were optional equipment on many older muscle cars and some modern ones also.the issue is that from an engineering standpoint, cars that are sold in cold weather climates need heated intake air in winter to prevent carb icing and most car companies only want to design one intake sytem to cover the majority of weather systems throught the country to reduce costs. much like why do southern cars come with a heater. A cold air intake will definitely increase horsepower because colder air is denser than warm air and will support more fuel charge which is why some cars feel more powerful when driving on a cool day versus a hot summer day. Some racers even use a cool can for their fuel lines to increase horsepower.it's basically a coffee can size container with fuel lines wound around the inside of it and they put dry ice in it just prior to a race to boost the density of the fuel charge and thus add horsepower. Hope this answers your question, Paul
- Q: Short Ram Intake? Or Cold Air Intake? What's the difference performance-wise?In general, or for a specific vehicle (2006 Hyundai Tiburon 2.0L).10 points to best answer!Thank You!
- ive only delt with cold air intake, a.e.m. brand is the best out there in my opinion. cold air basically keeps and your engine cooler and only sucks in cold air, short ram does not. basically short ram just means the air does not travel as much to get into the engine performance wise?? either or will give you anywhere about 8-12 horsepower more and help you out on gas mileage, you wont notice it though until about 6000 miles after you put it on. why? cpu of the car is a learning computer, any modifications, and will pick up on that and adjust accordinly.
- Q: How much horsepower will a Cold Air Intake add to a 2003 HONDA CIVIC LX??
- RE: Can I fit different size tyres/tires than the factory originals ? I have a 2004 Audi Avant (Estate) the tyres that are currently fitted are 205/55/R16 91 W. I have been offered some tyres at a bargain price but they are slightly different 205/50/R16 87 W. I telephoned an Audi main dealer and they said they would not recommend this because of the speed rating.
- Q: 2006 accord v6 Rand air intake?
- chilly air intakes do no longer do any injury to your engine. The chilly air intake device itself does not surely produce any skill. You get greater skill from a chilly air intake device because of the fact it fools the somewhat some sensors on your air intake. maximum present day gas injected autos have a MAT (Manifold Air Temperature) sensor placed interior the air intake. whilst the MAT sensor shows the air is chilly outdoors it adjusts the engine's gas and ignition settings to compensate. It provides greater gas to the gas air combination and advances the ignition timing. those alterations provide you greater skill. USE THIS TRICK AT your individual hazard! The producers of those chilly air structures do no longer desire you to understand this. there's a elementary trick used on GM automobiles to fool the engine computing device and attain an identical result. With a sprint examine, you're able to do an identical along with your Honda hit upon the MAT sensor, usually placed between the air filter out and the gas injection throttle physique. Unplug the sensor. installation a 12,000 ohm resister around the connectors of the wiring harness plug. this might fool the computing device into thinking that the MAT sensor is indicating the outdoors air is approximately 30 ranges F. the computing device will alter the gas and ignition hence. i've got seen a pair of 10% develop in skill with this trick. because of the fact the computing device is getting a interpreting from the MAT lead, it won't even save a code. I recommend removing the resistor and reattaching the MAT sensor in chilly climate although.
