Q: I have a 2006 Nissan Sentra. I am interested in buying a cold air intake system for it. The price for the different systems range from $120-$300. Are there really major performance differences with the intakes or would you be paying extra only for a better brand name?
usually it's just the brand name.besides the cheap OKorder ones, those are crap. the only reason it would be necessary to pay more is if it has a ceramic coasting to keep heat off of the air
Q: I have a 2005 automatic Dodge Neon SXT. Now, I know that for automatic transmissions, there needs to be a hole fitting where the IAT sensor can sit, I was wondering if I can have a hole machined and the sensor fitted in there as I have a machine shop at my work and have good mechanics. I work at a print shop where the mechanics NEED to have a wide variety of fabricating skills to work on printing presses.
I have an idea, open the hood follow the air intake to the outlet, realize this is a a COLD AIR INTAKE now understand that the car flows maximum air already, a sewer pipe with an air filter, may increase .3 horsepower, from 3,500 rpm to 5000 rpm, with a turbo. If you have no turbo, I would keep the money in your pocket, if you run around town all day between 3,500 to 5,000 rpm, you will need an engine soon. this cold air intake is a marketing gimmick, on small engines, they are already producing max power, by trying to force more power, you can cause computer malfunctions, engine lights pop on, and you can lean out your motor, (which can then burn a hole in pistons.) magic 50 horsepower sooper dooper pooper scooper chips are another good way to ruin a good motor, good honest horsepower is more expensive the smaller the motor, that's why a lot of manufacturers use turbos, but you have to have a good strong motor to go with it, or you end up with some expensive fried auto parts, we would all love 100 extra horse power, but a chip and cold air intakes are expensive crap good luck hope you find a plan

The cold air intake that came on the car is your best choice for power and fuel economy. Short rams are throwbacks to the days of the hot air intakes (1960s and 1970s). Any cold air intake is better than a short ram. All but the most expensive aftermarket intakes are scams.
Q: In your opinion, what is the best air intake system for a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport?
Most of the well known aftermarket air intake systems are pretty much the same. They all use a bigger tube and a free flowing air filter. Some of them have a splash guard so water wont slash up and get sucked into the intake. Those are recommended. If you don't want the hassle of having to take the filter off and cleaning it and then having to spray oil onto it, stay away from the KN, because that is what you have to do. I used the KN intake as an example in my other answer just as a generic answer as an example, but I would not use it. There are others out there that are great and do the same thing. Buy a good brand name is my best answer and stay away from things on Ebay that are no name, not known products.

The best cold air intake that you can get is the factory cold air intake. Your intake all ready has duct work that gets its air from outside the engine compartment. The really funny part is that most aftermarket cold air intakes do not get there air from outside the engine compartment. They get there air from directly behind the radiator (one of the hottest places that they could possibly get air from) so they are really hot air intakes not cold. also the fancy aluminum pipe does not flow any better that a plastic pipe (it just looks better to some people). They do not give you any noticeable H.P. gains what so ever. Look at it this way if you completely remove the air filter and all the duct work going to it you may gain 2 or 3 horse power so how is putting a shinny pipe on it going to make it flow better than a completely unrestricted flow. does not make sense huh. All they do is cost you a bunch of money look shiny and make you car sound like it has a vacuum leak. So unless you just have to have that shiny metal pipe leave the air intake alone you will be sadly disappointed. Just run a good paper Wix filter it works just as good if not better as anything else.
Q: we see now in aviation world many passenger airplanes flying at around 35000feet where the density and mass is very low, in order to avoid drag and have less fuel consumption.but how come the engine produce thrust with less amount of air intake as the density is very low at high altitude?
The engines produce less thrust, but there is also a lot less air resistance, so they are actually able to fly faster at high altitude, because the air resistance diminishes faster than the engine thrust. That's one reason why high altitudes are preferred for airline flights. It's faster and it uses less fuel.
Q: Should I upgrade my cold air intake?
I would say no. I upgraded my Sequoia to a KN intake system and didn't really notice any improvements. If I had it to do over, I would simply replace the filter and drill a couple of extra holes in my filter box for additional air flow.
Q: I‘ve done a little research on short ram vs cold air intake. A ram air system takes air from near the engine, which isn‘t quite cold. Ive also read that an intercooler on a naturally aspirated car, is pretty much useless. My question is whether an intercooler with a ram air system would be beneficial.
That's cause your azz is feeling a bit cool therefore you must wear pants once in a while. The only shadow i have seen is mine and wish it were something interesting.

Q: ive decided i want a short ram intake for my car but i cant decide between the kn series 69 typhoon or the AEM short ram air intake. i havent ever bought anything like these and i dont really know who makes a better intake and why. any help would be great thanks.
Just an fyi, ram air is a cosmetic mod only. You need speeds of 160km/h before you would see an increase in hp. Just a filter wont do much for a car, maybe 3hp, all those gains ppl talk of 25hp etc etc is BS, If you want a real increase, get a intake and a tune, Thats if your car can be tuned, you didnt mention what kind you have. The intake on my mustang is a JLT 2. It is a tune required intake, and the tube is huge compared to stock. . Just the intake on the car, the car throws the CEL light on, as too much air is going into the motor, a tune fixes that. The no tune required intakes are garbage, if they made a big difference, the mass air flow sensor would see it and trip the check engine light.
