Q: I was looking at a water pump and the specs said 110 Foot Max. Total Head and 20 Foot Max. Suction Lift. Can someone please explain this? Thanks.
I have two ponds, one that is always full and one that is always low. They are 550 ft apart and there is a change in upward elevation of about 35ft. What pump is needed to allow me to transfer water from the lower pond to the upper pond?
Q: I had a re-manufactured water pump installed and after 14 months I started smelling my radiator occasionally. Never suspected the pump since my original pump lasted 60,000 miles and was still fine when they replaced it feigning quot;it is customary to replace water pump with timing beltwhen in actuality my Hyundai Elantra just needs the pump checked every 60,000 miles. The re-manufactured water pump was diagnosed leaking for sure after 20 months. Anyway I believe the leaking pump which didn't get discovered for at least 4 to 6 months caused the early demise of my radiator. Does that make sense? Thanks,Mitzi
i strongly disagree. a leaky pump, loosing fluid, replaced by air via a recovery system, will create excess water jacket pressures. ergo, the radiator. even if it has air trapped in it. that excessive pressure, if the rad is marginal/old, can cause rad leaks. any seasoned mechanic out there has experienced a vehicle that had air in it, and be so hot as to charge the system. on some, you can actually here them go bang as water/coolant, flows into a part of the systems that has just air. that sends pressure shock waves through out the system. i've experience some so hot, they won't shut off. dieseling per say. ---------- EDIT, Michael sir. i'm an ex fighter jet hydraulic/pneumatic tech USAF. 40 yr auto mechanic. 5 yrs on Harley's (iron blocks). been dealing with the use of compressed fluids and gas for some time now. ex boeing employee on the 747 as well. i just don't ahve all that in my profile. mostly, i just let facts speak for themselves. weather or not an OP see's that is up to them. --------- pressure can built up faster than it can be bleed off in *some* cases. especially if it's a slow leak. those were generic statements. meaning, they are a possibility. not out of the realm of possibility, and would be far from the first time it ever happened, that a bad pump can cause other parts of the coolant system to malfunction. i've seen marginal rads, hoses, and even heater cores go as a result of over pressureazation of the water jacket. but i meant no disrespect here. i will delete my seasoned mechanic remark. simply stating i have seen/experienced, in the shop, over the years, many instances like what i stated. it's not impossible!!! i'll delete all this crap too if you delete your remark. how bout it? friends?
Q: 1.5KW water pump caliber is 40, what is the flow rate?
General 40 caliber flow is 6.3 cubic meters, two pole motor lift about 32 meters. The so-called flow, refers to the unit of time through the closed pipeline or open channel effective cross-section of the fluid volume, also known as instantaneous flow. When the volume of fluid is expressed in volume, it is called volume flow. When the mass of fluid is expressed in mass, it is called mass flow.
Q: im thinking about buying a 93 ford taurus for $950. the owner says it will probably need a new water pump and brakes in the near future. is it worth it? i dont know anything about cars!
Brakes aren't very expensive if you do it yourself. If it's just pads your looking at $20 and a little d.i.y. If it needs rotors or calipers walk away now. He knows it's going to need a new water pump? Sounds like a recurring issue then. A water pump isn't something you can really spot the wear on until you either hear it beginning to knock or see your coolant on the ground. But if it's doing either of those things the car isn't drivable. Water pump will run you about $70 for the part. Your probably looking around $200 for the part and install. My advice, take your money and walk away.
Q: Pump house should be equipped with those equipment and valves
1. The inlet and outlet of the pump shall be equipped with a control valve, and the outlet shall be equipped with a check valve;2, lower than the pump suction the water tank, water pump entrance to bottom valve, and piping and valves equipped with irrigation. Or equipped with other water pump irrigation facilities.3, more than one pump system should have the total valve and contact valve.4, the corresponding control equipment.
Q: It is a 110 shallow well pump for my water source to the house.
Does it have a resevour that it pumps to? If so, when it get full it will shut off, and when the water level gets low, it comes on.
Q: I have a 1 HP water pump that will pump water through a 1 and 1/2hose. What is the approx. GPM (just to have a reference) of a pump like this?
The capacity will be limited by the pressure drop. Assume 15-40 GPM depending on the length of the 1 hose. This is provided that the 1 is then split into four 1/2 hoses. Otherwise the flow will be highly restricted by the smaller diameter. The efficiency of a small centrifugal pump is around 50%. The general water pump equation at 50% eff. is HP = GPM psi / 860. So for one horsepower the GPM = 860 / psi Therefore for 20 psi the flow is 43 GPM, at 40 psi it is 21 GPM , at 60 psi it is 15 GPM
Q: Hoping that someone may read this.Broke down yesterday after re-filling coolant when car re-heated and mechanic who rescued us advised that the water pump is leaking and requires replacement. Our local garage have advised that to change the water pump also requires a new camber (?) kit and including both and 3.5 hours labour their total quote is ?315.08.This sounds crazy for changing a water pump - can anyone shed any light and reckon that they may be taking the mickey?Am not technical so wouldn't attempt to do work myself, however if we go back to garage, or to others, I'd like to know exactly what work needs doing. Thanks!
When the necessary water-pump is replaced 90% of the parts will be removed anyway to access replacement of the timing belt. In other words, the mechanic will have already removed the water-pump and just a few more parts will need to be removed to change the timing belt. If you haven't had the timing belt changed in the past 50,000 -75,000 KM it's wise to have it done now rather than later when the water-pump will have to be removed to change only the belt. If the belt happens to break somewhere down the road it *could raise hell with the valve train and pistons costing more pounds and kilos of money to repair. I only offer this advice as a wise preventative maintenance measure!
Q: need step by step on how to change water pump
This activity is a techniques too complicated to handle right here. it is an quite complicated interest. pass to a aspects keep and purchase a fix handbook particular to that motor vehicle and you will desire to be ok. via the way, super theory to swap the pump; those belts do no longer fail for no reason. and don't-repeat, do no longer!- use a rebuilt water pump! Get a sparkling one, or you would be sorry.
Q: I have a 2005 Mazda RX8 and I was wondering if upgrading the water pump on my car would void the warranty I have with Mazda. I know such modifications such as air intakes and exhaust systems do not void warranty. The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act says Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle. So is it safe to say it's alright to install? Thanks!
A water pump... being directly tied to the engine's systems in several ways would give the manufacturer more ammunition to say it caused and defect or failure in the engine. Unlike an air intake that is a static part and is only tied to the vehicle's aspiration. It would be a gamble on your part to install the upgrade.... But perhaps an acceptable risk? Look into why you feel you need the upgraded water pump and determine if that need is worth the risk of voiding ther manufacturer's warranty.
