- Q: what water pump is on a 1978 mercruiser 170hp 224cc 3.7 liter
- Got no partnumbers but.. the 3.7 is a Ford engine and dont know from your question if you mean the circulation pump on the front of the engine or the raw water pump in the outdrive. This engine has a closed cooling system and uses coolant to cool the engine pumped around by the circ. pump on the engines front. The water to cool the heat exchanger (and so the coolant) is pumped up by the outdrive pump. Mostly when the engine runs hot the outdrive impeller is worn out and need to be changed or the raw water system can be cloged up by debris.
- Q: Under what circumstances should we set up fire pool and fire pump room? Is it necessary to have a building?
- These facilities are available only in large public buildings.
- Q: Do it yourself steps
- If you're go to attempt this buy a manual. You have take apart the entire front of the engine. Remove the timing belt, just to get to the water pump. The timing belt runs the water pump. It's not a job for someone who has to ask how to do this on answers. Get a professional mechanic. This is from a 35 yr vet. of the garage.
- Q: I have a 1997 15hp Mercury 2-stroke outboard. When I run it it runs great and does what i want it to do. However, sometimes it doesn't pee. I can still hold my hand in the stream when it does but its very very hot. It always pees when i run the motor WOT but when im just chugging along it goes out for a bit and then comes back on. Is this supposed to happen? I was told by my dad that the thermostat regulates the pump so that it doesn't cool the engine down too much. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated
- Some Mercs only pee when the thermostat is open, especially the smaller ones.Trace the pee hose back to the engine. If it runs to the thermostat housing,it's one of those engines.
- Q: My car broke down yesterday and is waiting to be towed to the mechanic (2000 Dodge Neon). I'm pretty sure the Timing Belt broke, but my water pump was broken in the process and leaked out lots of water. Would the timing belt break the water pump when it snapped? Or does the broken water pump lead us to a different conclusion? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Also I was reading online today about interference engines, but couldn't find a list to verify if I have one of those or not. Anyone know? Thanks!
- Timing belt replacement is a very tedious and expensive repair. It is better that when the mechanic changes your timing belt, he changes all the oil seals, timing and balance shaft belts, and the water pump. It is better to this all at once because if you only replace the timing belt, you may also have to replace the water pump in the near future, which is the same amount of labor time for the timing belt. This way all these part will have the same lifespan. If you timing belt broke, hope that your engine is not damaged.
- Q: We've changed the hoses, and thermostat for the radiator. It still leaks coolant but we can't find out where it's leaking from.
- This Site Might Help You. RE: where's the coolant water pump located on a 1999 Honda accord? We've changed the hoses, and thermostat for the radiator. It still leaks coolant but we can't find out where it's leaking from.
- Q: This is a brand new water pump and we used plenty of gasket maker. Does this year of f150 need the back plate that comes on the water pump?
- Plate YES Leaking from Block Surface or Weep Hole?
- Q: Is this a symptom of a bigger problem or do I just need to replace the water pump?
- Time for a new pump That leak comes from what is refured to as a weep hole. Get it fixed ASAP as if it over heats it can and will crack a head if it gets to hot.
- Q: 94 f150,302. my pump is still leaking after doin the job twice. its a new pump, the first time i used the red silicone between pump and plate, both sides of gasket, and the housing on the block. leaked. then did it again with high tack gasket cement and still leaks. i cleaned all metal both times with brake clean before installing. same with thermostat housing, small leak. ive done 100s of pumps over the years,no problems, so please no rude remarks on mechanical ability. what could it be? it leaks up front of the motor above the crossmember where ya cant actually see the leak, its not a freeze plug. bolts are torqued. any ideas ? thanks
- never rule out a freeze plug. it could also be a cracked block. it could be in your interest to pressurize the system and trace the leak back to the source. the pump could be fine.
- Q: I have a 1997 mazda 626 4cylinder. For a while now, my hot n cold gauge keeps wobbling back and forth. I was keeping water in it and it was fine. A week ago it went all the way to hot and started smoking. There is water gushing out right beside the pulleys. I'm not sure if it is the water pump or not. Now, my car won't crank. Someone told me that it was the rotor button, but i can't tell if it is bad. I don't really want to take it to a mechanic. Can someone help me?????
- I am not a mechanic, but I can tell you that I just got my car back this morning from a mechanic because I had an almost identical problem. I had a slow fluid leak for a couple days, and steam would come out from under hood when I parked (after only driving for 10 minutes). Four days into this I went to the pharmacy and when I left I noticed I left a very rusty puddle of water in the parking lot. On the way home temp was running higher than normal. Let the car sit until a mechanic picked it up. Something happened with the timing belt and it caused problems with the water pump and coolant got in my oil. Had to have an oil change, coolant flush, water pump replaced, and a timing cover/gasket/seal something or other. $400 later I am up and running, good as new. Hope this helps and I hope you can find a good mechanic like I did.
