- Q: okay i observed and found out my water pump is leaking from a hole in it. after doing research i am told this is where it usually is suppose to leak from. anyway i read instructions for my car(92 fwd celica) and they say people have to remove the fan or something. my pump is under my alternator so i dk what fan they speak of. the only fan i see is by my radiator. all i see is remove the alternator(did it before) and remove the pump. is this correct. help.
- if okorder and type in your car info could get a how to do it if you type in and add video to end of lik ehow to replace water pump toyota video might find done you shouldnt have to remove fan just the belt an da few bolts
- Q: Need to pump water from the stream to my livestock tank on a regular basis.
- Yes, lots of them. Sureflo is one. You can find them on the Internet
- Q: I have a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird LE. It has 4 cyl. and it has 98,000+ miles on it. I took it in to get the oil changed and they inspected the car for a noise it was making. Found out the water pump was gone and the timing belt was worn. Need replacement on both. They quoted me 670.00 for the repair! STEEP! The part should cost about 20.00 max. How do I replace the water pump myself? And the timing belt? Do I need special tools? If I can't do it pretty easily myself, how much should I pay for the repair? I'm not made of money, but I need my car to run to get me to work everyday! I can't afford much, so anything around 200-300 is probably the most I can spend on the repair. What should I do?
- The best thing you could do is maybe run to a library and they might have a Chiltons or Haynes repair manual you can make some copies of, check it out and decide for yourself, but a timing belt is a pretty involved process, not so much for a water pump.
- Q: The leak is in the same area as my water pump, but when I jacked my car up yesterday, I wasn't able see my water pump. It's a 99 Saturn SL1.With the leak, it leaks very slowly, and it only leaks about a few ounces of fluid at a time. It mostly only leaks when I start the engine while its cooled down, and it's leaking down the passenger side of my engine. If it was a bad water pump, would the antifreeze leak without stopping until all of the antifreeze is gone?
- It would NOT leak until it emptied the coolant. Between the bad pump and the leak, air will enter the cooling system. Right now you have some air in the cooling system. When enough air gets in, and because hot air expands, you will soon reach a point where the pressure will be so great that a hose will rupture or be forced off the clamp. Then a cloud of white steam will explode under the hood and you will be stuck wherever you happen to be at the time waiting for an expensive tow truck. Since things like this happen to you, and since you probably have better things to do than learn about cars, then do this: Go to AAA and buy a one year membership. For about $65 a year, and your cell phone, they will come anywhere, any time on any day to tow the car, jump the battery, open a locked door, put on gas, start your car, give you a ride and pull you out of a ditch - all free.
- Q: Where is the water pump? How do i take it out, and replace it?
- Drain Cooling System. Remove right front lower fender shield. Loosen pump pulley bolts Remove Accessory Drive Belt. Remove pump pulley bolts and remove pulley. Remove pump mounting screws Remove pump. Remove and discard O-ring seal. Clean O-ring groove and O-ring surfaces on pump and chain case cover. Take care not to scratch or gouge sealing surface. Reassemble in the opposite order. This will be a good time to replace your thermostat and check all hoses for wear and leaks.
- Q: We are leasing land from a friend to put horses on. We're in the process of building a barn. We don't want to run water out there because its too much trouble for the meter and everything, but someone said to get a water pump and pump the water from the pond and filter it and use it. I have no idea what all we need or what kind of pump to get. Helpp!
- Yes you can pump the water from the pond and all you need to do is goto a store like tractor supply and they have everything that you would need there. The pump will have a data sheet that will say what it is capable of doing. The main things are how far to pump it and how high you will need to pump the water. Don't forget that a pump will require electricity. Before you do this you need to get the water tested to make sure that it is ok for the horses to drink. Knowing all this might make getting the meter installed a better option if available. Another option that may be acceptable would be to dig a well on the property. This would be beneficial because it would all you to have good clean water that humans would be able to use. One other option would be to get a water tank on a trailer and carry them drinking water from your house. You could then set up a rain water collection system to get water for bathing and other non drinking purposes.
- Q: I live in a residential/country area, and I have a well pump down cellar. I notice that, even if I am not using any water, nothing is running (toilet, etc) it tends to cycle on and off every hour or so. The pressure is always good, so that's not an issue. I am just wondering....is it normal for it to do this?
- How long does it pump when it turns on? This sounds like short cycling; you might have a leak somewhere in the system.
- Q: 1997 Caravelle 1900BR3.0L HO Volvo PentaSX Cobra OutdriveI have a small leak coming from my raw water pump, it is not a continuous stream just a drop every now and then. The best I can tell it is coming from between the shaft and water pump housing. Is there just a small o-ring there? How can this be fixed? We're going to the lake for Memorial Day Weekend. Will I be alright with the small drip for over the weekend? Then I'll fix it when I can get the parts.
- Well I don't know what mavrick is smoking but obviously he hasn't got a clue about a raw water pump on a volvo. He probably is on a sail boat. Here it is. There is a non replaceable seal on the shaft in the back of the pump. You have a 12 year old boat. Its time it went bad. The only way to repair it is to replace the pump. If you could get a seal from Volvo ( I will look it up in a minute) You would have to press the shaft out of the pump and this would more than likely end badly . You would end up replacing it anyway. So replace the pump , If it is just a small drip and the engine is not running hot you can run it but there is no telling when it will all of the sudden just disintegrate.
- Q: The garage told me my water pump was pumping quot;weaklyand needs to be replaced.
- You got one of the money making shops. If you go for this they will give you a BIG bill and you will have the same water pump. Water pumps go bad when the mechanical seal fails and they leak. No other reason ---if it ain't leakin it ain't bad. The only way you could have a weak' pump would be a slipping belt and that would create an overheat problem. I don't know if you have a heating problem but if you ever do go to a RADIATOR SHOP not a rip off auto repair. Don't fall for the thermostat thing either--same scenario big bill--- same thermostat. Water pumps and thermostats don't cause overheat problems except in extremely rare situations.
- Q: Ok, so I was driving the other day when I heard this quot;clunksound...my AC went out (stopped blowing cold), and power steering went out. I pulled over and one of the wheels where the serpentine belt goes on was off and obviously the belt was off too. I got it towed to a shop where they showed me I needed a new belt - it was ripped, and told me I need a new water pump...all together a 400 dollar job after labor and parts. I was hoping I would just need a new belt and they could bolt back on the wheel...From a chic standpoint, this seemed logical. I know nothing about cars and I'm always very skeptical when I take my car anywhere to get it worked on bc I could be told anything and wouldn't know the difference...Has anyone had a similar experience or does this sound like the problem? I have a 07 honda civic...around 80,000 miles.
- to make it simple what it sound like that they are saying is that the water pump is broken and when this happens in some case one can not turn the pulley of the water pump so the belt would slip on it so long until it overheats and melts leading it to rip. if u don't trust your mechanic have another mechanic look at it and if they tell you the exact same thing chances are they are both right.
