- Q: How can I do a pressure test on my 350's water pump. Some one suggested I do it to make sure it needs replacing.
- do you have heating or coolant loss there are many things that can cause this not only the water pump it can be the thermostat not working could be a water leak and also the fan that cools the motor could be faulty, any such problems can be serious and cause the engine to overheat and get damaged. if so get it fixed asap.
- Q: water pump and thermostat were replaced 18 months ago motors done about 20 hrs since replacement have checked and there are no blockagers in water tube what could be the problem thanks
- well, if the water pump isn't pumping water, then the water pump is faulty. only way to know what's wrong with it is to open it up and look at it. one thing you might not be aware of, is that a few seconds of dry running is all it takes to damage the impeller, so if you've been in the habit of starting your motor without supplying water to the lower unit, then that's what happened. Another thing is, the pump sucks in sand and silt, those take a toll on the water pump; the more you run shallow water, the more damage is done.
- Q: i have a well that i am trying to pump and i need to have one pump to bring the water up from the well, and one pump to take it out to our lawn. i just wanted to know if i could hook the irrigation pump directly into the well pump, or if that would be damaging to the pump?thanks!
- Yes you can your pumps will not damage
- Q: I have a 95 honda civic and I just got a new water pump. I need to know how to change it. I have an engine lift, I just want to know if the is an easier way?
- Water pump on that car is behind timing belt . Get a good manual and read up on it . Also , be sure and change seals . There is one right there that some times will just start leaking . Use to manage a repair shop and we did a ton of those cars . Not a bad idea to change timing belt as you will have it off anyway . Also check out the tensioners while your there .
- Q: Hi, what is the difference between an Air pump and a Water pump. What are the functions of each? Does a tank filter come with an air pump? Is an Air pump or Water pump required?
- An air pump is used to drive air through a tube and into the tank passing through a diffuser. It can be used to drive an undergravel filter, sponge filter, or corner filter. Or it can be use simply to drive air through an airstone or other decoration. A water pump, otherwise known as a powerhead is used to drive water in the tank. Typically they are used to power an undergravel filter or sometimes a sponge filter. But they can also be used simply to circulate water in the tank. Whether a filter comes with an airpump depends on the type of filter. No external filter (power filter) will come with an airpump. But an under gravel filter or corner filter MAY come with an air pump, or it may not. Most do not. Depending on the type of filter you have an air pump or a water pump will be required. One or the other will be needed for an undergravel filter, corner filter or sponge filter. But they won't be needed if you are using a canister or power filter.
- Q: Why should we pump water into a pump when the country uses a pump to pump it?
- This is the water diversion, after the discharge of air, the pump started, under the influence of atmospheric pressure in order to absorb water.
- Q: s10 blazer with 130k original miles.. is leaking water but not from the water pump... just replaced it and still leaking from the same area... where are the freeze plugs located? where else could it be leaking from? it lools like its coming from harmonic balancer or close by!!
- look at the housing that the water pump bolts to ,it may be busted and there's some of the bolts that go all the way through in to the block if those wasn't coated with sealant it will still leak from the bolts that hold the water pump on,and that will make it appear to be leaking from the front cover, you got two freeze plugs in the front and three down each side, good luck with it,
- Q: Mercedes 2000 ml 320. I changed radiator and water pump now car only runs half as worm than it used to. So now heat blows cold to little warm depending on how cold out side
- If there is an air pocket in the system you will not get hot heat from the climate control system. If the heater worked OK before you replaced the water pump it's probably a stubborn air pocket. You need to raise the front of the car a good 12 and then rune the motor for 20 minutes with the radiator and reservoir caps removed. Have the climate control set to the hottest setting with the blower turned off or on low speed. Top up the coolant as the air bubbles purge. The heat coming out of the vents should be hot at idle, if it only gets hot when you rev the motor you still have an air pocket. Then try revving the motor up and down to 2,500 rpm and squeeze the upper radiator hose at the same time to get the air pocket to purge. If you can't get the air out you will need an expensive Airlift vacuum fill tool for the cooling system. Some vehicles such as Infiniti's will not purge the air with out using the Aitlift brand fill tool.
- Q: I am trying to evaluate my well water pump and water system to see if the pump is cycling on/off too frequently. What is the optimal quot;ontime? What is the optimal quot;offtime? I have heard the term quot;short cyclingquot;, but no times were attached. I have heard that too frequent cycling can cause a problem, but, again, no times were attached. How can one tell when the system is working within the optimal/normal range, so that no harm is being caused to the system? Thanks.
- There is no optimum time. This is dependent on several factors. Assuming you are pumping into a small tank which is pressurized by the inflow of water from the pump (and the pressure also controls the pump) these reasons can be excessive use of water, the air space at the top of your tank has been absorbed into the water over a period of time and the volume of compressed air too small causing the pressure to drop too fast, or you could have leak in your water piping. If there is not enough air space in your tank, the pump will cycle extremely fast. If you don't have a tank, then the above information is incorrect. Good luck.
- Q: I have a leak and all the hoses are fine but I am not sure were the water pump is also has anyone had this repaired and what did it cost (part plus labor) in general is it hard to get to? Thanks in advance
- The Chrysler Concorde came with either a 3.3 or 3.5 litre V6 engine that year. On both of these engines, the water pump is driven by the backside of the timing belt. The pump is buried deep in the front of the engine, and is one of the hardest to change of all the cars I've ever worked on. If the hoses seem to be ok, you can have a pressure test run on the cooling system to find the exact source of the leak. Most garages will do this for minimal cost, and this way you can get an estimate to repair exactly what's wrong, instead of wasting time and money on unnecessary repairs. If it does turn out to be the W/P, make sure they include a new timing belt in the estimate. It has to come off anyways, and any coolant on the belt will severely shorten it's life span.. just a little cheap insurance. As for cost; labor rates vary wildly from shop to shop, so I can't give you a precise number, but I will tell you this: Once you know what it needs, call a few reputable repair garages. They know you're looking to deal, and will often low-ball estimates over the phone to get your business, even if it means reducing the labor rate, and/ or the markup on parts. They still make money on the job, and you save.
