Q: how do u know when u need to replace ur water pump or how do u know when its not working??? thanks
I have seen them just let go and start leaking water usually from a weep hole located just under the shaft. I have also seen the pulley get wobbly and start throwing belts. if it is not leaking but you are not circulating water through your system then you probably have a clog ( did someone add stop leak?) or the thermostat is not opening. If you are suspecting the water pump because of overheating it probably is something else. Start with coolant and thermostat.
Q: I've got a 1997 Ford Probe, taken it to a couple different places; whenever I drive my vehicle, it tends to want to overheat. I don't drive it to the point where it does though, I know that could cause more damage! I've noticed that when I go out to my car in the morning, there's some coolant on the ground by the front passenger's tire. Before I drive it I fill it with coolant, as to try to keep it from overheating while driving.I've been told that it's the water pump leaking from 2 people but then the last person said there's no leakage. I'm wondering if it might be something else? Maybe a thermostat, a hose, maybe? How would I figure this out???
If it is your water pump, just keep driving the car and you will soon know. The pump will lock up, you get towed in, then get to have the pump repaired. By what you said, my guess is the water pump needs replaced.
Q: What is the difference between a High Flow Water Pump, Heavy Duty Water Pump or and Electrical Water Pump for a street rod? I have a 77 Camaro with around 410hp with the factory A/C. The Camaro is stock as body, frame and interior. I want to enjoy the car vs racing it. I would like to go on trips to visit family out of town which is around 300 miles and be able to drive the car with out having over heating problems.
The high flow just moves more water per revolution the a factory pump. Heavy duty could be the same as the hi-flow, while the electric pump does not use the fan belt to turn the pump, it's got a small electric motor to do that. See if there's any difference between hi-flow heavy duty, get one of those.
Q: I was driving when my temp gauge shot up all the way so i pulled off the next exit and my car shut off and started smoking i noticed the water pump belt was in shreds and what seemed to be anti freeze fluid and water was everywhere. I'm curious what could have broke maybe a gasket or the waterpump it's self besides just the belt?
The bearings within the pump, or the belt tensioner pulley bearings, or even the alternator could have gone bad. Any one of the components that draw from the serpentine belt may be the origin.Once the engine cools it may be determined which component caused the failure. If the water pump turns freely then it's not the source and can be ruled out. Same with the tensioner pulley.
Q: i wanna use a water pump to pump air...but im afraid that it might burn or sth....
Probably not...give it a try.
Q: Why should the water inlet of water pump be fitted with reducer?
Increasing the pipe diameter can reduce the resistance loss along the path and reduce the suction vacuum of the pump! Before the inlet of the pump is a big diameter, when you reach the suction port, and the pump inlet diameter to be consistent, so the use of reducer joints!
Q: I have a pump connected to a lake, that I use to water garden. I changed the line into the lake as it had a air leak and lost it.'s prime.I have filled water back into the tank and lines .several times. And it hasn't caught it's prime. It is a year old pump that came with it's own tank. When I am doing all this I leave the tap end closed.I'm pretty sure that all is tight and not leaking. The line into the water is only about 5ft deep
Priming okorder / Hope it helps.
Q: Please specify the reason, the more detailed the better, the head is the pump 1N fluid on the work done, when the flow rate increases, the shaft power increases, but it does not necessarily have to do with the head of the relationship
First of all, the power of the pump is determined by the motor. When the power is certain, work must be done. According to w=mgh, the flow determines mg, the head is h, you think, if the flow rate is large, is the head smaller?. This is theoretical, and at the same time, you see, the water pump characteristic curve can also see that the flow rate increases, the corresponding smaller head.
Q: i have recently taken of my whole water pump cover to drain the fluid, not knowing that there was a drain screw to do it.So when i took it off, i broke the seal, and now the coolant constantly drips 24/7 until i have none left, nearly blew my head gasket the other day.I was going to get a new part, but then a friend told me about locktite to seal it shut so that it does not leak????Is this the super glue stuff orrrrr? :(Please help me and links would be good so i know what to getThanks you very much!
DPO, You will need the water pump gasket, water pump gasket sealant and the manual. DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE. Remove the cover [after draining the coolant this time] and clean everything up nice and dry. Resist the urge to scrape and gouge the parts with a screw driver to remove the old gasket material. you can use a scotchbrite pad to clean it all up. [no, steel wool cannot be used] Use a THIN film of sealant on each side of the gasket [NO, more is not better] and bolt it back together gently or you risk cracking the pump cover. Don't forget to refill with coolant and recheck after it has warmed up and cooled again.Get the manual before you do any more damage. You didn't give the year or exact model 85 so the link below is just for example.
Q: My 1998 Dodge Dakota V6 heater only gets warm, I have replaced the thermostat. I have back flushed the heater core. The heater hose coming from near the thermostat gets hot, but the hose coming from the heater core going to the water pump only gets warm. The large hose coming from the thermostat is hot near the engine, but is only warm near the radiator. Is the water pump bad? If I open the radiator cap there is no signs of circulation. How do I check the water pump? Thanks,Gene
to answer your question directly, you can check a water pump the same on any car. water pumps have whats called a weep hole there is a small hole that is designed to leak coolant when your water pump seal goes out. find the pump and see if there is a trail of white from this 'weep hole' then yes your pump is bad. if not, i dont know the layout of the hoses for your car so i couldnt diagnose it for sure. but check your water pump for the signs i gave you. its a tell tale sign
