- Q: My water pump is losing pressure slowly even though no water is being used. Your help is appreciated. Thank you.
- I vote for the check valve in the well drop pipe. The valve and seat are both brass - no rubber seal - so it's bound to always leak somewhat. If the leak has increased recently, it's due to wear beginning to show or a bit of sand caught in it. A little extra on the electric bill is a lot less than the cost of pulling the well to replace the $20.00 valve. Another possibility:Your pressure tank air cushion may have lost air and become partially waterlogged. This will increase the pump operation. It won't run as long but it will run more often. The system pressure will drop faster than normal. Perhaps this is what you perceive as a leak. Ask your well man how to check the air pressure in your particular tank.
- Q: need to know the electrical connections for a Square D water pump pressure switch..Have a quot;blacka quot;Redand the quot;ground quot;of course
- Appears okorder /.. Can't find a diagram so we'll work from memory and assume the terminals are marked L1, L2, T1,T2 (as in motor control): Line (supply) connects to L1 L2 Load (pump) connects to T1 T2 Both grounds connect to the switch's Ground screw L1 T1 are terminals on the same NC contact block likewise for L2 T2 L1 T1 are electrically isolated from L2 T2 GL...
- Q: Our water pump was really warm/hot to the touch, our hot water was more warm than hot, and wouldnt heat up enough to get hot, and it wouldn't turn off. (like when it starts up when you turn on the water,it just kept going, and wouldn't stop) so, because it was hot, and going constantly, we didn't want it to explode, or burn out, so we turned it off, and now I'm hoping that when we turn it back on after it cools, that it'll go back to turning on/off intermittently, instead of constantly. So, after it cools down, will it go back to normal, instead of just constantly going??!?
- I assume you have a water well pump. The experience I have had, is it will come back on once the thermal safety switch cools down. However, I think you still have work here to do because each time this happens, you are shortening the life of your pump. First you need to determine why it ran hot to begin with. Could be lots of reasons, but just to name a few. -Is your water tank in good shape, with the correct air pressure? -Is the tank waterlogged, too old or leaking? -Any leaks in the service in or to the house? -Is your contact switch working properly, clean contacts, good wire, good connections, breaker etc.? -Is there water running somewhere your not aware of? -Last but not least, the check valve and foot valve leading to the well could also be defective. Just my opinion, I hope this helps to get you thinking. Good luck; flip;
- Q: My 2000 Chevy Cavalier (2.4L) has been overheating pretty majorly (within a 10 minute drive!) when it's been super cold out, about 5F. I took it to the shop and they told me it was my water pump. Right after getting out of the shop, the problem went away for an entire week and the car's temperature has been at exactly what it's been for years - never past 195. It seems to be back now, though not as severe. It's about 20F now.Could the weather have to do with this??Why would the problem go away like that?I'm female and definitely do not seem educated walking into a shop so they can really tell me anything and I'll buy it. I just wanna see if the problem going away like that makes any sense, or if I should just wait out long trips until it warms up outside. It doesn't look like I'm losing coolant, though my low coolant light goes in and out.I have no idea. Thoughts?Thank you!!
- The thermostat is on it's way out..and is sticking closed. Get a new thermostat installed and the engine coolant flushed and filled with a 50/50 mix. If it were the water pump you would have been loosing coolant and the problem would not have been intermittent. Take it to another shop as they are trying to rip you off for a water pump. Replacing a thermostat and flush is not that expensive ..
- Q: Where can I get a water pump housing for a 1987 Dodge Dakota, A junk yard?
- You should probably try a salvage yard. They might have it, of course it probably wont be new....
- Q: I have a 1.5 horse Power Hit and Miss engine? Is it possible to buy a water pump I could run off of the hit and miss engine that would pump water from a river over a big hill and little ways and into a water tank or is this just a waste of time. How much water could I pump at a time? A trickle or a gush of water? When I say hill I don't mean like a little hill in your yard I mean a hill you have to hike up? If you don't know are there any resources I could access? Where could I buy such a pump if there is one?
- A horse and a half won't do much. You would be better off with a hydraulic ram type pump if you can get about a 10 or 15 foot fall before the ram. It will pump about 4 or 5 times the height of the fall, but in small quantities. It will run 24/7 without gasoline, so it will fill a tank over a long period of time. The railroads used them during the steam era when they had huge water towers out on the plains.
- Q: Im half way through replacing my water pump and im stuck...the power steering pump pully blocks access to the final bolt that needs to be removed so the water pump can be removed so i can replace the water pump... any hints on how to get to the bolt so i dont disassemble something i dont need to?
- The PS pump is held in place by three 13mm bolts. Turn the pump pulley to align the holes in the pulley to the bolts behind it and use a 3 in. extension on a short 13mm socket. Then remove all the bolts. You do not have to completely remove the pump, just move it up enough to access the water pump bolt.
- Q: 94 f150,302 engine. the water pump comes with 2 gaskets. one behind a metal plate on the pump and another for mounting it to the motor. my question is do you have to use sealant of any kind on both gaskets or can you just bolt it on?
- Weekend before last, I did the entire timing chain cover and water pump assembly of my '92's Mustang's 5.0L. Used the red silicone.......doesn't leak a drop.
- Q: i know a little bout cars always fixed my own since day one but this is the first car i have ever had/workd on with a internal water but thats driven off timeing chain my cars running hot and its holding prusser so i know its not radator or hoses but i need to know a way to check and make sure its the water pump befor i go tearing the engine apart
- In the olden days when the fan was attached to the front of the water pump, you could hold the fan by either side and see if it moves at all.If theres movement of the shaft then that usually means the bearings are worn. The more it moves the worse it is.Not much help if you got thermo fans though.
- Q: overheating.it has a new thermostat,radiator is clean.temp stays normal during idle,rises when i start to drive.ac is off when this happens.its a 4.7 dodge durango.can water pump simplyquot;go badquot;without ever leaking?
- if it,s circulating then the water pump is doing its job. does the fan kick on? maybe 1 of the hoses is closing up when your driving. usually when the bearing goes bad in the pump it takes the seal out too and starts to leak.
