- Q:I am replacing the factory stereo with a new pioneer head. The problem I am having is which wiring harness I need for the stereo to work. The guys at the store told me I needed the GMRC-04 in order for it to work. The problem is its $100 itself. I found a scosche wiring harness that fits my Bonneville as well for much cheaper. I was wonder, will the cheap on work with all of the steering wheel controls? And also will it work with the delayed shut off after the key is taken out (and doors remain closed)? Will it work just as well as the expensive one? Or will it not function properly?
- Here's what's going on: Your head unit is controlled through the vehicle's data bus system. The GMRC-04 communicates with the vehicle data bus to keep the radio-controlled functions working; it also reads the radio on/off signals and uses them to control an accessory power circuit for the after-market head unit. If you use the GMRC-04, the after-market radio will work with the retained accessory power feature, and the vehicle's warning chimes (which are controlled by the factory radio) will still work. Now the question is, what Scosche harness do you have? If it doesn't include a separate control box, then it won't work like the GMRC-04. Scosche does make a harness, the GM07B, that fits the factory connector strip, and it will give you the speaker and constant power connections. However, it won't give you retained accessory power, and it won't keep your warning chimes working. To make the after-market radio work at all using the GM07B, you'll need to find a switched power source somewhere else in the vehicle--there's not one in the factory radio connector. Scosche also makes an adapter that's their version of the GMRC-04. Scosche's model number is DCGM14B. If you have this adapter, it should work similarly to the GMRC-04; but it's not a cheap adapter, so I'm guessing what you have is a GM07B. By the way, NONE of these adapters will keep your steering wheel controls working. You need a completely different adapter, the SWI-PS, for this function.
- Q:All the installation pdf's I've looked at for trailer wiring harnesses for the '02 Sierra refer to a pre-wired plug that is behind the bumper on the driver's side. Well, that plug isn't on mine. Was this plug an option when new?
- well i know you have looked but it could be taped up above the bumper on the frame harness and you have to have a pigtail to plug into it. just a suggestion. good luck
- Q:I have a 1994 Geo Tracker. I have a AIWA CTX409 (is ISO/DIN compliant and conform to the ISO Wire Color Code standard if that makes a difference)head unit in. I want to put a Kenwood KDC-MPV619 in. Do I need to get a new reciever wire harness or would the old one be ok?? I don't know much about the car audio and such so annnny help would be greatly appreciated :).
- If an adapting wire harness was used to install the Aiwa, you can cut away the part of the harness that plugged into the back of the Aiwa radio and crimp or solder the Kenwood on instead. No need to purchase another harness; the wire colors should be the same.
- Q:I am swichin my factory radio out with a new radio and i was told that i could not use a regular wire harness.
- you will need to check with an aftermarket radio dealer for the right harness. Almost all after market radios need a special type of harness to connect to the factory one, it is no big deal just plug and play. The big issue with your impala is that alot of the headlight functions as well as other functions are controlled and changed through the radio. Things such a key fob programming, oil life resetting, tire pressure monitoring resetting, how the horn honks when you lock and unlock the car and so on. This requires a special harness and to find that check with a reputable aftermarket car stereo place. The thing to think about is that if you ever want to adjust those settings that need to be done through the radio you will need to put the factory radio back in.
- Q:I have running lights back up lights everything but brake lights and my third light doesn't work.
- Because the older model didn't have high mount brake lamp. There was a design change in a few things from those years. You shouldnt have used that old of wiring harness
- Q:I have a 2003 Harley Davidson soft tail (with a carburetor) that needs a new main wire harness. I recently purchased a harness for a 2000 model 'Deuce', and everything plugs in just like the old one except it (the Deuce) has a 8-pin connector going to the turn signal module instead of 12-pins (like the original). Any info anyone can give me regarding the differences in these harnesses would be helpful and greatly appreciated, however right now my biggest objective is to just get a spark to the spark plug so I can start the bike. Thanks in advance for any advice.
- You have the wrong harness. The 2000's use a straight turn signal module. In 2001, HD integrated a factory security system into the bkes. When they did this, they integrated the security system into the turn signal module which is called a turn signal/security module (TSSM). You would see this in the wiring diagram if you had a FACTORY service manual.this is why you NEVER attempt any work on your own without a manual!!! A manual will pay for itself the first time it saves you from an experience like this. What was wrong with your original harness?.What's up with no spark, due to the harness?
- Q:I am using a Metra 70-2003 wire harness to install my new cd player. This installation requires a fuse tap to bring in the 12V power. How do I safely do this procedure?? I need a website with pictures on how to fuse tap,and more specifically how to install THIS wiring harness
- Metra 70-2003
- Q:I blew up a 2002 S10 2.2 liter engine, and i have found a 99 S10 2.2 liter engine for sale. I know i will need a computer for the 99 to work in the 2002, but will i need to get a wiring harness as well?
- just incase yes
- Q:I was going to install my stereo when I realized that someone removed the factory wiring harness. There are a bunch of different colored unlabeled wires. I don't know how to figure out what each wire goes to.
- You really cant, can you?
- Q:i have a 2001 Mitsubishi mirage es.i have a sumas media sm-868cd radio.my friend told me i can get a wire harness that is specified for my car and my radio. he said i should be able to plug it in my car then to the radio without any problem rather than do any wire splicing. where can i find a harness like this? please include links if you can
- specific you are able to decrease and splice the wires in spite of the shown fact that that is lots easier and larger to easily get an adapter plug which will in advantageous condition your present harness. As pronounced till now you are able to %. them up at a Walmart or some comparable form shop or maybe do a cyber web seek.
