Q: I'm a little confused on how to hook up my new stereo in my car. When i first got my car, it already had another car stereo in it(not the original stereo that came in the car) and im assuming that it already had a wire harness for the stereo in it. So im guessing that i dont need to buy another wire harness for a new stereo that i got, right? I was wondering something, does the wire harness thats already cut and spliced in the care already, just have to go into the new stereo i got? all i would need to do is make sure the wires match the one in the new stereo's digram? Also, whats the point of a new stereo coming with its own wires if whenever its put into a car, it needs a specific wire harness to your car?sorry if its confusing, im just trying to write down what i exactly mean.
This Site Might Help You. RE: how does a car stereo wire harness exactly work? I'm a little confused on how to hook up my new stereo in my car. Q: i bought a aftermarket wiring harness for my 2003 nissan xterra and a boss stereo and i know your suppose to connect all the wires with there matching wires on the harness and stereo, but i am confused on what to do with the ground wire, because both my wiring harness and the stereo have a solid black wire and both say ground (the wiring harness says chassis ground). do i connect those two wire, or do i ground them both separately to bare metal? i am confused and any help would be great
Connecting both separately to the chassis is in effect connecting them together to the chassis. The idea is that they both need to be held at battery negative.
Q: Current wiring harness has a two wire plug for a sensing circuit but the new alternator does not have a provision for connecting the plug. One of the wires goes to the ignition switch and the other to the alternator lamp on the dash.
Check voltage between both wires with the original alternator and the engine running as well as stopped (but key on). my guess is the original alternator closes the circuit between the positive (coming from ignition key) and lamp. As for the replacement alternator my guess is it supplies ground from its only connector when the lamp should be lit (please measure it with voltmeter!). If my theory is correct you should wire a relay in the middle to allow the lamp to be lit, since you need a positive for the lamp.
Q: I have a 1994 toyota pickup 2wd. Just recently it had a wire burn up on the wiring harness running to the alternator from the main harness. It burned the ground clean off the alternator the first time then I fixed the wiring and the second time it did it again but on the ground running to the fender but it was the same wire but on the other side of the plug in. When going down the road, the lights and radio would start skipping then the truck motor would start skipping also then just shut completely off. Thats where i found that wire burnt up. I can't fix it after two attempts. Please help
OUCH! you may have a wire somewhere with the installation cracked or coming off touching ground. If a cluster of wires in a cable burn up, it could be costly replacing the whole thing, hope that's not the case?
Q: I recently changed out the spark plugs on my 2006 dodge charger 6 cyl 3.5L. Had to take apart the box with the air filter and disconnect a whole lot of wiring harnesses to get to the plugs. When I put the engine cover back on and started reattaching all the wires and hoses, the red and black tab on my throttle body wiring harness snapped off. The harness is attached to the throttle body but now there is no way to remove it. My check engine light and ETC light came on while driving with code P0507 which is either dirty throttle body or vacuum leak on engine. I do not have the money to take the car to a dealership to fix it and cannot find the harness online (nor would I be able to install it). Any solution would be greatly appreciated.
Damaging a wiring harness was unlucky and that's a pretty penny to fix. Can't really take it to a mechanic because the Throttle control has to be relearned after being fixed and that's something you can only get done at a dealership. The manual itself says the car is driveable with the ETC light on but you'll want to get it fixed if you ever want to change your spark plugs in the future.
Q: I AM WORKING ON A 93 CAPRICE WITH THE 9004 HEADLIGHT BULB,I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IT SO I CAN USE EITHER BULB,CAN I SPLICE INTO THE CAPRICE HARNESS OR WHAT CAN I WIRE UP A SEPARATE HARNESS PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS
If you want to use both at the same time I would just splice it into the existing wire. If you are trying to make them interchangeable put in some wire connectors on either bulb.
Q: Hello everyone, im thinking about buying this 08 hayabusa from this older guy for a good price. The bike was laid down and the front left plastics are pretty scraped but no frame damage. He told me the wiring harness got ate up pretty bad too and will need to be replaced. I looked on OKorder to see how much a used one would cost and i saw one around $180, but im kind of unsure because on OKorder things dont always seem as they are. I found a reputable mechanic that is only charging me $30 an hr to put it on when i get one, and he is very well known in my area. Though the question remains, should i buy a wiring harness from OKorder or somewhere else?
buying secondhand is never a good idea, get a new one it will save you money on labour charges.
Q: I have a 98 jeep grand Cherokee and I just bought a pioneer stereo for it. We got a wiring harness and connected everything how it goes except 3 wires ( mute, dimmer and illumination) but the radio won't come on. Should I be connecting those 3 wires? If so, where?
I dont know what any of those do so im gonna say no. You must either have a wire wrong or a blown fuse which a wrong wire will result in a blown fuse. Maybe your power and ground accidently touched when you were installing it. There is usually a fuse under the hood and in your inside fuse panel.
Q: I want to put 9006 6000K HID Kit I can install it myself I just don't understand the whole 55 Watts and 100 Watts thing.I need to know if my car can handle the HIDs without the Wire harness and relay. According to what I have heard the Wire harness and Relay are used if there isn't enough power to fire up the HID ballasts. If there is not enough power the Ballasts begin to fail. Do I need the Wire Harness and Relay for my 96 Honda Accord?
Sounds like someone's trying to sell you stuff you don't need. I had mine installed (can't do anything that technical myself), and whatever I gave them, is what they used. For sure no additional wire harness, aside from what was in the kit.
Q: I have a sony cdx-gt32w and when selling my old car I forgot to take the plug for my cd player out. Does anyone have a wiring diagram so I can just use wire I have and connectors to connect to the prongs that are there? Or is there another way to do it without buying a $30 part for a $80 cd player?
