- Q: I have a 93 del sol and i startd to notice that my fuse was blowing alot to my radio.because im not a mechanic i had no idea what was wrong so i just kept replacing the fuse. Until recently when i smelld and then saw smoke coming outta my speaker hole.So i pulled off the paneling and realized that my wires were getting so hot they were burning all the plastic around them,and now they are all meltd together.my car wont start or anything.No lights are coming on when i turn the keyMy question is.How much do you think it will cost to fix this?And does this sound like the wiring harness is fried to you?How much does 1 usually go for at a junk yard??Thank YOU
- The cost to replace the wiring harness will more than likely exceed the value of this car. Sorry. You may find one at a salvage yard. However it will require lots of labor to replace. The going rate for a mechanic is about $100 per hour. I would expect this to take up to 30 hours to replace. This is because of the dis-assembly and reassembly required to remove and install a new wiring harness. The mechanic may get by for less if he can only replace the damaged section of the wiring harness. However it sounds like the damage is extensive. Also, who knows what electronic components were damaged when the wiring harness burned. You may also be looking at replacing the engine management computer, radio, heater / AC controls, etc.

- Q: I am just wondering if there is such thing as a wiring harness plug adapter. My car came factory with a Kenwood cd player. I am wondering if there is a way to swap head units with out having to splice. I have a Kenwood KDC-222, it's ok but to be honest I have had better results from Dual. I'll probably end up going with a pioneer though. Also I use non-factory subs. Anyways any help would be appreciated.

- Thats a hard project, but you can use the factory harness from the camaro for engine management or use an aftermarket ecu ontroller for the engine, which will be harder to find and very pricy.

- Why not do your own wiring. If you can build a cafe racer you should be able to do your own wiring. A manual for you bike should be available from your local library. It would show a wiring diagram the rest is common sense.

- Q: I have a 99' E320. The headlights on this particular vehicle are a whole unit, the smaller of the round lights (the parking light) or low beam is not functioning. I suspected the bulb but after further inspection I noticed the filament was intact, however the wiring insulation was frayed and peeling I guess because of the heat. With the same gauge wire and a little know how it seems like it would be an okay decent job.However does my issue sound more like a wiring issue or a light bulb issue. The insulation is down to the copper wire, and it constantly peeling back. I am afraid of a fire, if the wires decide to rub against another and a fuse does not blow.I suspected a fuse initially but do not know where to look and usually more than on thing goes out not just one part of the headlight assembly.
- I would recommend calling a used parts dealer and finding a new wiring harness. If that wire is going bad the others most likely are too.

- it will fit but you will need a wiring harness from a 318. or if you are good with wiring or a friend is you can usually adapt it but its a lot of work. good luck
