- Q: i bought a aftermarket wiring harness for my 2003 nissan xterra and a boss stereo and i know your suppose to connect all the wires with there matching wires on the harness and stereo, but i am confused on what to do with the ground wire, because both my wiring harness and the stereo have a solid black wire and both say ground (the wiring harness says chassis ground). do i connect those two wire, or do i ground them both separately to bare metal? i am confused and any help would be great
- In a Nissan, you'll want to connect the black wire from the new head unit to bare metal. You don't have to do anything with the ground wire in the adapter harness (it probably lines up with an empty pin in the stock radio plug anyway).
- Q: I own an Acura Legend '91 and the wire harness on the passenger side was torn apart. I think it damaged the wire towards the turning signal.
- Search out a 91 Acura in the junkyard, and pull that harness. If the plug part is in decent shape, its fairly simple to patch the wires and use shrink wrap to seal out the repairs. If you do it yourself, you can probably do it for about 5-10 bucks!
- Q: I need a new wiring harness for a 2002 daewoo lanos. How much is that going to cost? And what does that thing even do, anyways?
- There are typically about half a dozen wiring harnesses in any car, each constituting all the wiring for a particular section of the car engine compartment, under-dash, front lighting, etc. Prices vary widely. The only one I ever replaced was an engine harness in an older Volvo and I found one aftermarket for $300. I also priced an engine harness for a 1984 Nissan 300ZX (after an engine fire) and Nissan wanted $2000 for the harness. Replacing it would have been a lot of labor, too. Be sure to get a second opinion in any case. It will be a very expensive job and not only is it something you don't want to do because of a bad diagnosis, but if the harness has an identifiable fault it may be repaired. The dealer won't do repairs but other shops often will.
- Q: A wiring harness came with my Sony Xplod stereo but that man that runs the local electronics store told me that i need a specific $115 wiring harness for my 2002 4 dr. Pontiac Sunfire. Is he right or will the one that came with my stereo work?
- The one that came with your stereo just fits the back of the stereo, not the factory radio plugs. Here's what's going on with your Sunfire: The factory radio is connected to the vehicle's data bus system, and it controls some vehicle functions. All audible warning chimes are generated by the radio, and play through the driver's door speaker. If you remove the radio, you'll lose the chimes. Additionally, the factory radio is switched on and off through the data bus system. It doesn't use a key-switched power wire like most radios. The expensive adapter communicates with the vehicle's data bus, and generates the warning chimes in place of the stock radio. It also uses the data information to generate an accessory power wire that can be used with the new head unit. You can probably find the adapter for less money if you search online. Look for a Metra GMRC-01 (also sold as the VT-GMRC-01). It's possible to install the new stereo without the adapter, if you don't mind losing the warning chimes. You'll still need a harness that fits the factory radio plugs, like a Metra 70-2003. You'll need to connect the new head unit's accessory power wire to a key-switched power source somewhere in the vehicle--you won't find a key-switched power wire in the factory radio plug.
- Q: Does anyone know what the wire harness is called that runs from the chassis to the door called on a 1995 jeep gc. This wire harness includes the speaker wires, power window wires, and power lock wires. I have checked everywhere and cannot see what this harness is called.
- Its called a wire harness. I beleive it is the main dash wire harness, but you wont get anywhere with that if you are trying to get one from a parts house or dealer, You just have to hit and miss at the salvage yard or digging around yourself and get lucky. But if you can trace the wires to a block connector or firewall connector you will be in luck and just tell them the location of the block where the harness is connected and you should be there, just remember all your options in you truck will have to match the options in the donor truck or the harness wont work for you
- Q: I have an 05' Chevy Colorado stock radio but it doesent have a wiring harness How would I hook this up to a battery without a wiring harness
- You won't do anything without the plug that connects to the back of this radio. You would need to find a junk 05' Chevy Colorado. Then cut the wiring harness that would go to the radio. Make sure you leave enough wires to splice in to. The rest would be best guess. However, you would need to be careful not to fry the radio trying to figure out the correct wiring order. You could start by looking at the wires that connect to the speakers of this junk truck. The colors should match the colors on your pigtail. From there you would need to figure out hot and ground wires. This will narrow it down. In general hot wires will be red, ground wires will be black, but this isn't for sure.
- Q: Here is my situation: I have a a Pioneer DEH-1600 already installed in my 99 accord which my dad paid to have it installed at pepboys. I recently just purchased a Pioneer DEH-1300mp to replace my old one because I wanted an aux input. The problem is that I know little to nothing about wiring. I can take things apart and install things but I have never tried wiring. The stereo I purchased came with a wire harness as well and I was wondering if I have to completely rewire the harness or if I could just unhook the old stereo and plug the new one in. Especially since the two pioneer stereos are the same model line, I would think that they would use the same wire harness. But unfortunately I do not know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

- Q: I have a 95' Silverado K1500 (4x4) with a 4L60-E transmission and 5.7L engine that is in need of a wiring harness. I have quite a bit of blood, sweat, and tears tied into it (along with money) and I'm not going to give up on it. Besides, it's my only hope for getting back and forth to school. I'm thinking about getting a C1500 for a parts truck. The problem is that it has the 4.3L V6. If I use the E.C.M. from my truck, will the harness work?
- no man unfortunately it wont work all the sensors the ecm plugs throttle body plugs anything else u try to switch over is gonna be different. you'd be better off goin to painless wiring online or something like that google it u can find what u need for farely inexpensive. plug n play makes one also kinda costly but there easy work great. good luck
- Q: i got a 2003 s10 and my cd player stopped working but the am fm works. i bought a new car deck (pioneer) and i want to install it. I am aware that i need to buy a wire that connects to the old one and the new deck but i have no idea what kind of wire i need. i went to future shop and there trying to charge me 130$. is there a cheaper way of doing this. Maybe a web site or something could helkp thax.
- I would go to best buy or circuit city. They sell harnesses for most stereos and most car models, usually around $18. Then all you do is hook the two harnesses together and your golden. If your new deck came with a harness, you would need to get the harness for your make and model of your car (ex: a Honda Accord harness), but if your stereo doesn't have one, then you need to get the stereo harness (ex. A Pioneer harness). Good luck
