- Q:My girlfriend has a 2001 Subaru Legacy. Recently one of her catalytic converters went bad. She now needs to get that system replaced. She was quoted $1,200 from a trusted mechanic. I was thinking, she s going to have to put a good amount of money into this thing already, are there any options to just replace the whole exhaust with a freer flowing one? Hoping to get that and an intake and hopefully get a little more power out of the car. The only thing is, neither of us want it to be loud. In fact, the way it sounds now is perfect but I understand that a better exhaust may be a bit louder. What s can we get that is less restricting but not a whole lot louder that also is in about the same price range?
- If you live in Ca or NY then replacing the OEM emissions equipment with an aftermarket higher flowing CAT is a big no no. Now if your Legacy is turbo'd then you'd have to get the ECU tuned to run the high flow CAT properly. Would also need an ECU recalibration for the intake if turbo'd. The only reason you would have a $1200 bill for a new cat converter is if you drove a turbo Subaru. If that's not the case, then find a new mechanic. If you don't want a super loud exhaust go with 2.5 - 2.75 in piping.

- its the removal of old fluid and replacing with new throughout the entire brake system. your brake fluid will last longer than you car this is a good scam most shops just suck out the reservoir and put new fluid in. this is ridiculous they havent changed the way they produce brake fluid so why would it be different now as opposed to 10 years ago i got a 1952 merc cruiser and it still has oe brake fluid in it and i drive the snot out of it. dont waste your time or money
- Q:I have a 2004 VW GTI with the 1.8T in it.It has a catless downpipe which makes it sound nice and throaty on startup, but I‘m looking for more from it. - a cat back system is a complete system that goes from catalytic converter to wherever you want it to exit and a muffler is just that a muffler not an exhaust system
- Q:I mean even changing the exhaust makes a difference in performance.Everyone is saying that Try slip on exhausts and such.For me it‘s left me baffled?Everything of use happens in the power stroke,right?So then why is the exhaust that much of a difference?Aside cutting out the noise what other use is there for it. Let‘s say noise isn‘t a problem.Would cutting out hollow metal tube and replacing the exhaust be of any difference to the motorcycle?Would the engine be damaged by it?I Mean the exhaust is technically a free flow right?
- Last question about free flow zone , NO! It is called SCAVENGING, a certain amount of back pressure actually helps pull exhaust from the cylinder and draw fresh fuel/air into the cylinder. I was on a group run several years ago and some kid showed up with a 600 sport bike and a 4 straight pipe, every small incline made him get on the gas, he had no torque to pull with and was annoying as hell to listen to. These were 50 bikers, at least a few of them would have been into the loud is safe theme, this kid had no friends and was relegated to the the end of the line, he was still heard at the front.

- Try youtube or google videos. Guys are always making videos of their car doing this and that, and a lot will put the muffler brand in their description. You can type the make and model of your car along with the various brand names of mufflers (one at a time) into the search, and I bet you find a match. Then favorite the ones you like and keep narrowing it down.
