Q: We have a private well with a 40 year old water pump that is rusting away, and sounds like a truck. It's a double jet well pump sitting on a tank, with a second tank to one side that it's also connected to (with a thick pipe). I don't quite understand why there are two tanks (there's a third which is obviously the hot water). I'm guessing one of these is to hold water, and the other to provide air pressure? In any case, the pump runs OK, it doesn't leak, and provides plenty of pressure. It is just unbelievably loud. I've been told that replacing the bearings might take care of this problem, but seeing how the tank the pump rests upon (with a thin tube connecting it to the pump) is rotting away, and the system is older than I am, should I just replace the whole thing?: I would replace the whole unit,for one if it was to go bad you are going to have water everywhere,and also the new one will be smaller and more energy effecient.

Q: I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8 v6 engine. My car has been overheating lately and my low coolant light came on so i put antifreeze in it and the light went off. I drove about 3 blocks and the low coolant light came back on again and the thermostat was at the hot mark so i checked the antifreeze and it was just about empty. I did noticed when I was pouring the antifreeze that some did run out the bottom of the car but it wasn't alot. Please help me determine whats wrong with my car. Is my water pump bad?: Another possibility: The Upper intake manifold could be leaking coolant into the engine. In other words, it is not an external leak. The leak is caused by the EGR valve actually melting the manifold, right by a coolant passage in the intake manifold. Again, check for milky oil (it'll look like dark butterscotch pudding....no really!). But be careful....a shady mechanic may tell you its a blown head gasket and it could just be this problem. If at all possible, have it checked out. If he says Blown head gasket, ask him to remove the upper intake only so that you can see it....there will be coolant and milky oil all over the top of the lower intake manifold if it's the upper intake problem. If it's diagnosed as a blown head gasket, this coolant/oil WON'T be there. The repair involves replacing the upper intake manifold completely, not just a gasket. Good Luck....

Q: $900 for a 96 neon but she says the water pump needs replaced.how much does it cost usually? is it even worth buying?: Water pumps cost from should cost from $40 to $100. The car probably has even more problems than the water pump considering the cars age and the price for it. You should take it to a local mechanic so that they can check it out and give you their input before buying it.

Q: can this happen that pump is pressurizing system and no flow in suction.: The radiator honestly holds the water/coolant and the pump circulates the aggregate with the help of the engine. Upon returning to the radiator, the water is cooled from air passing with the help of the fins of the radiator. The pumps job is to move the aggregate to guarantee that the nice and comfy water to sit back for this reason, the engine is then cooled.

You would do better to just purchase one of the many fountain pumps all ready available at many home improvement centers or online. They are water proof and have the pump and motor all in one enclosure.

Q: Ok, so I was driving the other day when I heard this quot;clunksound...my AC went out (stopped blowing cold), and power steering went out. I pulled over and one of the wheels where the serpentine belt goes on was off and obviously the belt was off too. I got it towed to a shop where they showed me I needed a new belt - it was ripped, and told me I need a new water pump...all together a 400 dollar job after labor and parts. I was hoping I would just need a new belt and they could bolt back on the wheel...From a chic standpoint, this seemed logical. I know nothing about cars and I'm always very skeptical when I take my car anywhere to get it worked on bc I could be told anything and wouldn't know the difference...Has anyone had a similar experience or does this sound like the problem? I have a 07 honda civic...around 80,000 miles.: to make it simple what it sound like that they are saying is that the water pump is broken and when this happens in some case one can not turn the pulley of the water pump so the belt would slip on it so long until it overheats and melts leading it to rip. if u don't trust your mechanic have another mechanic look at it and if they tell you the exact same thing chances are they are both right.
