- Q:What does the lift of a pump mean?
- The pump lifts water from the surface to the highest point, such as a submersible pump working below the surface of the water. The pump head is still applied to the water level, not the water pump.
- Q:The water hose hooks from the radiator to the water pump. Does an o-ring go in it? What else could be causing it to leak?
- it is either a loose clamp or a bad hose
- Q:I have a 2001 2500HD duramax and it is leaking antifreeze under the truck. I leaks a a drop every second what could be causing this
- If you can narrow down the location to being from the actual water pump and not a line, It would be the seal in the water pump. The only option is to replace the water pump.
- Q:My 2001 300M is behaving oddly. Occasionally it will gradually overheat after I have driven around for 15 or so minutes. Yes, occasionally. I took it to my mechanic who changed the thermostat and hoses. I then drove it on a trip on the interstate and over a mountain (140 miles ) It was fine with no signs of overheating. Then the next day when I drove to work in the city, the stop and go traffic had it overheating near the end of the trip. I've been able to keep it from going in the red by using the heater. After this happened most of the days, but not all, I took it back to the shop. He reported that the fans were working correctly and the only thing he could come up with is a weak water pump. He stated that when it did get hot, he was able to bring the temp down just by rev'ing the engine a little.Does that sound right? Any other ideas and how to test?
- The only reason to replace a water-pump on such a new car is if the weep-hole on the bottom of the water-pump in-put shaft casting is leaking. If your upper radiator hose if hot when the dash temperature reached 195 degree's there is nothing wrong with the water-pump. Cooling systems plug when brand X antifreeze is mixed with the standard equipment, long life type. *Did your mechanic do an inexpensive *cooling system pressure test to look for external and internal coolant leaks? Is the radiator filled to the very top when the engine is stone cold? Is the plastic coolant recovery bottle at least 3/4 full when the radiator cap has been removed? Have you checked to see of the electric cooling fans are operating behind the radiator when the dash temperature reaches 205 degrees? It's less expensive to change the thermostat and radiator pressure cap than a non-leaking water-pump. An 11 year old car is do to have the cooling system drained flushed and *cleaned before having Fresh factory recommended ZEREX G-05 antifreeze added.
- Q:Installed new water pump on 90 Jeep. Noticed antifreeze around the edges of the pump. Took it off, replaced with new gasket and sealer, but it seams to be leaking again.
- The surface on the engine block is not cleaned properly and is not allowing the new gasket to seal correctly. The other possibility is you have a defective replacement pump. This does sometime occure with parts from the national chains. inspect it closely to make sure the casing is not cracked if it is you need to take it back and get another one.
- Q:i have a problem with what i think is my water pump, and i was wonder if anyone had any websites that have free engine diagrams, and if it is my water pump, it turns on and off when at idle, is that normal, if not, what could be the problem?
- you can go to your local chevy dealership service center and not only they can get any part you need they can give you a diagram of your engine. i hope this is helpful to you and good luck.
- Q:I need a water pump gasket for my mustang water pump. What can I use if I have no gasket material?
- I wouldn't use anything except what was required for that pump installation because I wouldn't want to have to go back and do the whole job a second time if the pump leaks around the gasket area. A new gasket should come with a new pump. If not go back to a quality auto parts store and get a gasket. I'm not sure I'd trust the squeeze on gasket silicone in place of a gasket and I'd get Permatex gasket sealer to use with the new gasket on all surfaces before I reinstalled the pump. It's worth taking your time to do it right. Make sure there's no antifreeze coolant oozing onto the metal sealing surfaces, because the gasket won't seal unless the surfaces are clean and dry (been there, done that).
- Q:I am trying to areting my pond but air pump cost too much. I have an extra water pump available if I make two intake opening, one for water the other for air, would it work? or will it blow up the pump and kill all of my koi because it is made for pump water.
- The only difference between a water pump and an air pump is the pressure difference between the two ends and hence across the longitude of the pipe. Air requires less pressure difference, it will pass across anyways. Now, if the pressure difference is too high (i.e. its a water pump perhaps) then the air will go past quite quickly and there is danger of actual overheating, as the kinetic energy of the air molecules will go very high. (Kinetic energy is proportional to temperature). Overheating results in possible hazards for the pond and also fluctuations in the pipe, whereas it COULD possibly (haven't done exact calculations) burst.
- Q:I was recently driving and noticed my heat gauge in the red. I have a 1992 Honda Accord 4 door LX. When I opened the hood what appears to be water was all over the place. Is this the water pump or something else? I want to fix it this weekend so I was hoping for a better understanding of what it might be. I am aware of the labor involved with the water pump and removing the timing belts to get to it. Thanks a bunch in advance!
- it should,nt be water, it should be anti-freeze if it was leaking. if you meant anti-freeze the it don,t have to be the pump. it cold be a busted radiator hose, the radiator or 1 of the heater hoses leaking.
- Q:I don't want to have to rent or purchase a electric pump to pump the water out of my pool so are there other ways to get the water out besides the obvious (a bucket and alot of people). I am really tight on money so purchasing a device to do the work isn't a real option but I really need to drain the pool without damaging it.
- I have what is called a sump pump that I drain my pool with it works great. Ask a friend or relative if they might have an old one laying around. The sump pumps are generally used for pumping water out of basements when they flood but they work great in pools. I have 2, if you were near I would give you one
