A friend told me it can be the Water Pump so i put a new one, I was told it can be the Thermostat so i had a new one put in. It worked for awhile but began overheating again. My truck is my livelihood so its important i get it fixed! I cant afford a mechanic but just asking to see if anyone knows what it could possibly be? Q: Power went out of my house and we just had it restored, though now the water is no longer running. We called the people who installed our pump and they told us they would need to dig up the well which is going to cost $1500. However i remember a time before where this happened and all we needed to was reset the switch. Do you think these ppl are trying to get me for my money? Does anyone know if there is a less expensive way?: you do not usually have to dig up a well there could be several causes Some pressure switches are low pressure cutoff type if you lost pressure the switch needs to be reset the little silver handle on the side of the pressure switch needs to be lifted until pressure builds up Lightening might have hit the casing and burned a wire or even fried the pump although with breakers and safety switches that is unlikely. If your pump has a control box either in the pump house or the basement remove the screw and take the cover off if you smell or see something burnt go to lowes and buy a new box $45 max. If the wire is burned it is most likely right at the well cap itself turn the breaker off and remove the cap carefully pull the slack wire up and check a plumber should fix for no more than $100. If the pump is gone it will require the pump to be pulled if it is a submersible this may cost you up to$1000 . If you have an above ground jet pump that lost the prime just remove the fill cap and fill with water to restart the prime Sorry for the long answer just wanted to touch all bases

Q: Can I get a time estimate to replace a water pump on a 1983 Nissan Sentra? I'm trying to calculate the cost of the repair separate from the part. Thanks.Also, time to replace a battery and the end on one of the attachments to the post.: About 1/2 hour to replace battery and cable end. Water pump about 2 hours if everything comes apart easy. Being 23 years old it could take much longer because of rusted or corroded bolts.

Q: My water pump is starting to leak. The shops are quoting $250- $300 to replace but I can buy a water pump at the auto parts store and install myself for less than $100 but I don't know what all is involved with this repair or if I should try (my only experience with car repair up to now is recently replacing the alternator). If anyone has done this please let me know what you think. thanks: you can make it even easier by purchasing a hayne's manual for your car when you buy the water pump. you will need it anyway so you can have the proper torque specs and sequence when reinstalling the new water pump. so if you don't have a torque wrench you will need to rent one. the first step of course will be to drain your cooling system. then use masking tape and a sharpie to number any connectors or hoses you have to remove to access the water pump. once the old one is off make sure to clean every trace of gasket material from the mating flange. then when you are ready to reinstall put a thin coat (use you fingers to spread)of rtv silicone to each side of the new gasket this will help hold in place. then here's where you will need the book insert the bolts and tighten them in sequence shown to the proper torque unless you want to chance cracking the new pump housing. on a car this old if it has not already been done now would be a good time to replace hoses (esp. if they are soft) and your thermostat since you've already got the cooling system drained. once everything is reassembled start the engine and begin pouring in the new coolant, if there are any bleed screws open these it's very important to get all the air out of the system if there are no bleed screws you can leave the cap off the radiator or expansion tank (you'll need to anyway) since one you think its filled when the thermostat opens its all gonna drain down and you'll have to top it off again. here is a good time to pay attention as it approaches normal operating temp be ready to start pouring as soon as the level starts to drop that will help keep more air from getting in. any questions feel free to e-mail me

I moved in December, rain season here in NC, and remember the pump going on and off, now its constantly running, Is it normal for the pump to be running that much? any websites to read up on how a water well works?thanks: Sounds like you have a holding tank problem. Check to see if it is leaking air. Or you could have a busted pipe somewhere, you could cut the water off in the house but not at the pump to see if it continues. If so the problem is at the well, if the problem stops after the tank refills you have a busted pipe between the pump and the house.

Q: I was wondering if the noise from a water pump can bother my crested gecko. I have a water pump that cycles the water that is in the leca balls, it does not make a load noise but the noise is there. Will this bother him?: Cresteds can drown, so is this one of those water fountain dishes? Make sure it's safe. If it is just a filter sound it may not hurt them, but I would be more afraid of them getting inside of something.
