Q: how do u know when u need to replace ur water pump or how do u know when its not working??? thanks
I have seen them just let go and start leaking water usually from a weep hole located just under the shaft. I have also seen the pulley get wobbly and start throwing belts. if it is not leaking but you are not circulating water through your system then you probably have a clog ( did someone add stop leak?) or the thermostat is not opening. If you are suspecting the water pump because of overheating it probably is something else. Start with coolant and thermostat.
Q: I installed a new water pump on a Cherokee straight-6 engine, the upper radiator hose is not heating up and the engine is starting to make a funny noise. The thermostat is new and was working fine before. The coolant reservoir is full and no more coolant will drain to radiator / engine. Anyone know why waterpump is not circulating coolant?
Apparently these guys made a 26-minute video detailing a water-pump swap on a Grand Cherokee. They are both 4.0's, so the procedure is the same.
Q: Water pump is STILL constantly running! Since this past thursday, we did:new check valvenew pressure controlnew foot valve (well)well is not dryprime, air pressure are finewe have above ground pump in the basement. we called a plumber and he could do nothing! we have water and pump/tank and everything seem working fine. But the pump is on and off every 30 seconds - 1 minute. It is so annoying and out of ideas what could be wrong. My husband think it could be the tank and suggested that we replace it. But the plumber didn't say anything about the tank. And it is not too old.Do you think it is the tank and we need to replace it? If so, we will do it on this Sunday morning even though it might cost extra charge! please help!!!
ITS A WATER LOGGED TANK, DONT REPLACE IT JUST DRAIN IT drain the tank, you need the air pocket in the tank. drain the pressure tank completely, let it fill it again, and have an air pocket in it. if it has a rubber bladder in it , the bladder could be leaking and all the air has been replaced with water, drain the tank and see if it feels empty after it is drained, if not the rubber bladder is full of water, new tank is needed. with no air pocket the pump is going to keep cycling on and off. the pressure switch comes on at 20 lbs, shuts off at 40 lbs. the only way it gets the 20 lbs difference is with the air pocket expanding. if all is well, lets say it takes 2 minutes for the pressure to drop from 40 to 20 with a faucet wide open. with no air pocket it will drop from 40 to 20 in a half a second, pump kicks on to pressureize it and its back to 40 in a half a second. pump is on and off, on and off over and over over. with an air pocket it will take the pump several minutes to bring it back up to 40 from 20.
Q: A guy i know changed the Water pump on my 02 Chrysler Sebring with a 2.7 in it because it was leaking coolant, when i got it back the leak was fixed but now there is a ticking noise. He thinks that the Timing Chain Tensioner needs to be replaced... can i get some opinions here? does he sound correct?
Chrysler's 2.7 Liter Engine is pure garbage!!!!!! They start ticking and knocking and then they die. Sorry, I've been a victim of the 2.7 Liter as well. I had a 2002 Intrepid with 101,000 miles. It needed a THIRD engine installed. All those 2.7's sludge up and die. I heard the water pump is built inside of the engine itself...
Q: i learned from wikipedia that the water pumps back to reactor where it is heated again and the cycle begins again. but then i saw this diagram
As you factor out it was once the double-punch of the earthquake and tsunami that caused the problems at Fukushima. The diesel mills have been enough to control the pumps to cool the reactor but then the tsunami got here and swamped them. Shutting down the reactor after an earthquake is typical defense system. The diesel turbines had been designed to be a backup in the occasion of an earthquake. They functioned quality even after the large quake. If the quake didn't occur, but instead the planet was once just hit with the aid of the tsunami, the other planets in unaffected areas of Japan would still be operating so this implies the engineers onsite might have jerryrigged anything in order that the pumps would be powered through the country wide vigor grid even though the diesel pumps were knocked out. No longer shutting the reactors down would have resulted in much more radiation being launched as a result of the damaged structures and containment units.
Q: How long should it take a mechanic to replace a water pump on a 96 dodge intrepid ES with a 3.5L engine? I was given a estimate of 6 hours does it really take that long? at 100.00 a hour I'm not sure my car is worth fixing
I would do 1 for $100 period $100 an hour means that your mechanic missed a house payment
Q: And my heater works 80 % of the time, Is it still ok to drive if I keep putting water in it?
You can. But I caution it will get worst over time. The unfortunate realty is only make short trips cause it will just start pouring out sooner or later. And then its over. Keep a eye on it. A water pump/timing belt is cheaper than a new van or motor. I think both are required when doing a pump on that one, so I'm guessing that's why we've not fixed it?
Q: It's been slowly leaking for awhile now, but today it dumped brown water out like a bucket, when I shut it off facing up hill.
water pumps last less than 100k miles, get a replacement pump ,it should come with a gasket set. you may need to removed the fan shroud. Remove the serpentine belt (remember how it went on!) unbolt the old pump, you'll loose a lot of fluid ,so don't let Fido drink it. Now reverse the process and don't loose any bolts or drink beer while your doing this! The brown stuff you saw, was water .be sure you refill with coolant or the seals on your new pump are gonna get thrashed. Good luck kid.
Q: Is it ok to drive a car with a bad water pump?
How do you know if it's bad? Either you've had it diagnosed as such and you know the engine will overheat, or you don't, in which case, try taking out the thermostat (and bolting back up). If the engine is slow to warm up - replace the thermostat.
Q: Well I know the water pump is leaking and its leaking fast. So I put water in the coolant reservoir and when I drive it acts fine but then when I stop and idle the coolant tank starts too over flow and spits the water out everywhere. Car still being at reg temperature the coolant reservoir is steaming/smoking? I can't tell which. But there doesn't seem to be water in the oil??? What's going on? If the water pump is replaced will this stop?
If you are loosing water due to a leak coming from your water pump the radiator can not hold pressure making the water over heat that is where the steam is coming from and as far as how long it will take you to replace the water pump time will tell if this is your first time it may take you 8 hours but like they say it is better to have tried than to have not tried at all.
