- Q:We have a 2001 mazda tribute that has been leaking coolant and overheating. we thought it was just the radiator, so we replaced it, but it is still doing it. It leaks pretty rapidly, and overheats pretty fast too (in 1 to 2 miles of city traffic) Does this sound more like a hose or the water pump? how difficult will it be to replace the water pump?
- With the engine running at idle take a look at your coolant resevoir and follow the lines. If it is a hose leak you should be able to see it no problem. When is the last time the radiator was flushed? You could have a blockage in there somewhere too. Depending on how handy you are will determine how difficult the water pump is to replace if that is the problem. Some help can be found online by looking for a Mazda forum. Good luck
- Q:I found a small submersible water pump for pond decorations or birdbaths in my garage. It's about the size of three decks of cards stacked on top of each other. Would there be any harm/benefit of putting this into a 55 gal fw community tank?
- well it depends, do you have any small fish? and how is the water cycled in the pump? it needs to be protected so that fish dnt obviously get sucked. before you add it in tho need it submerged in a bucket of water and add several teaspoons of salt; that will kill all the bacteria that may have grown on and inside the pump. leave it in there for minimum 24 hours (just to be sure).
- Q:I switched on the pump and smoke came out of it, i opened the pump n found it had some water probably caused the shock. How to repair it or is it dead?? ** its not a well pump just a normal one that pump the water to the tank from a small reserve
- If you have to ask the question you don't have the skills to do it. You could see if there's anyone in your area who rebuilds motors and ask them to look at it, but if it smoked it's probably dead. If you want to try some simple things, take it apart, dry it out and put it back together and see if it works. If does, see if you can see where the water was leaking from and see if you can seal it back up.
- Q:it is a mazda b3000 pick up v6,it is coming from behind water pump,but it is not all the time, i would think that if pump is going it would be all the time, but it will go bone dry for a few dayswhen it does leak it leaves about an 8 inch spot on the driveway,temp gauge goes to its regular spot and does not move,any suggestions would be helpful,thanks
- water pumps can leak at different times, i had one that would not leak hot, while running, under pressure, but once it was completely cold it would start to drip, look for a small weep hole , there's a good chance this is wear it is leaking
- Q:We're doing some droplet impact experiments and are creating the flow of water to our droplet generators by elevating our source of water. Unfortunately as the water depletes the pressure changes. We need to siphon off the water from our lower basin where the water collects and pump it back up to the source (around 6-8 feet up). What kind of pump do I need for this?
- I presume you can’t use city water! Droplets probably mean very small water flow. You can try local used merchandise store. Often they have waterpik systems for a few $ They are piston type pump that means the output will be pulsating instead of continuous. Another option is a windshield washer pump. These are gear type, so provide a continuous flow. You would need a variable power supply to control the pump speed, therefore the flow. Good luck Hope this answers your question

- sounds like not only did it come in contact withe wiring but also with the pump,when your working with electricity you need to be very careful and have the right tools to do the job with. to start this job you need a multi testing meter,this will let you check things like amp,volts,ohms,you know things that comes in contact with the pump and wiring,you didn't say what the voltage is on this pump,so first i'd find out what that is and make sure you have that going to the pump,then if so make sure the pump isn't froze or locked up,next go to the breaker box and locate the breaker for the pump,and test to see how many amps the pump is pulling when turned on.then find out if there is anything restricting the pump from doing its job,it may be something as simple as a run capacitor or even a shorted or burnt wire,but first make sure you have the correct voltage and amperage going to and coming out of the motor,once you get that taken care of you may need to prime the pump in order to get it pumping again
- Q:Today I was installing a new water pump on my 1999 grand Prix. When tightening the bolts one of them snapped off. Now the pump leaks from that broken bolt. I was wondering if I would be able to stop the leak using some sort of sealant or would I have to take the car in to get the bolt removed?
- Go the your local hardware store and ask them for a bolt extractor kit. You will need to drill into the center of the bolt about 1/2 inch and then change the bit to the extractor that's in the kit. Try to keep the drill level and back it out slowly. Don't forget to get a new bolt also.
- Q:I would like information to use an automotive water pump to ( or possibly another device ) to pump water approximately 60 feet (20 meters) elevation from creek without electricity. I only need enough water for 25 chickens. So we are not talking about a households supply of water.
- a car water pump is run off a belt like your alternator etc so you would really be able to use its not a pump that u can just stick anywhere. if it is only to feed 25 chooks then it wouldnt hurt to just fetch them a bucket of water of every morning that would do.

- Q:I keep having to add water to. Doesn't do anything when it's sitting up. But after you drive it straight for about 25 minutes. Time to add some more water. I figure it's the water pump. It's not leaking anywhere so it has to be a failing water pump. Oil still looks good, no smoking. AC and heater blows fine. Just runs hot after a while. I need another opinion. Its the 4 cylinder also. And yes it does be steaming. Tired of having to add water everyday.
- Forget the check this and try that stuff. You need a RADIATOR SHOP the radiator is plugged and you can do nothing to clean it. Don't waste time on flushing as it is a waste. Water pumps have mechanical seals and require no lubrication and anti freeze contains no lubrication material. Plain water will not affect the pump. Never replace any part 'till you KNOW the problem
