Q: What is called soft start of water pump?: Close the outlet valve of the pump, open the inlet valve, and can ensure that the water pump "self filling" (the liquid level is higher than the pump inlet pipe under the condition of the water pump start procedure is: to start the motor, to the normal operation of the motor, slowly open the outlet valve, the current gradually increase. But in the unattended operation (valve), and automatically pump, and pipeline diameter and length (in the pipeline water quality will be great), such as the motor start fast, to quickly promote the quality of water (as the train will soon accelerate acceleration), will make the motor starting current is large, causing the motor to trip and the damage of mechanical and electrical. Soft start (soft starter added in the circuit) - that is, slow motor speed, can overcome the above situation.Stop the pump normal order is: close the outlet valve, then stop the motor, such as unmanned operation, the outlet valve is not closed, when the pump stops suddenly, the water inside the tubes (especially vertical pipe), water will quickly turn back, so when the check valve suddenly closed, the fast flowing water suddenly stop by the inertial impact that produces "water hammer" effect and damage of pipeline system, using the "soft stop" should, in the circuit is connected with the soft stop device.

Q: removed my water pump to replace it. i have the fan and clutch assembly still attached...i have no idea how to remove these...the fan clutch has bolts that hold the fan to it...and i did remove those but im just not sure how to separate this assembly...my water pump pulley has 4 holes...and no bolts so i presume it's pressed on...and there looks to be a very large nut between the pulley and the fan/clutch assembly...any help would be appreciated on this...i'd much rather go to the parts store w/ the old pump instead of guessing.....thnx in advance...: The fan has a large nut that needs to unscrew off of the water pump. It is easiest to do that when pump is still on engine. It should be standard righthand thread.

Q: I'm planning to install a water pump using electric generator from a very long distance going up from a cliff: Well yes it wiould , powerful pumps need more electric power so check that the generator can supply the power needed by the pump

Q: does water pump sealers work?: If your talking about the water pump for a car it doesn't have any pumps those would be the radiator pumps that are connected to the water pump and transmission which keeps the radiator and transmission at a temperature that keeps the vehicle from over heating. If you have a overheating car and a mechanic told you your water pump has a leak then sorry you would have to replace the water pump but just don't go to a popular mechanic for that because it can get really expensive do your research and find you someone with a garage it cheaper because the part itself is not that expensive it putting it in that cost lol. Q: 1998 jeep cherokee water pump: not too hard of a job 1.drain radiator/block of all anti-freeze 2.remove fan shroud 3.remove serpentine belt 4.remove fan unless its electric 5.pull the hoses. 6.remove bolts holding the w/p in place 7.clean all gasket area of old gaskets 8.dry fit new w/p to make shure new pump is right part 9.put rtv gasket on block where w/p will mount 10.put rtv on new w/p 11.put new gasket on w/p 12.mount water pump and snug up the bolts do not tighten 13.after allowing rtv to set for 24hrs tourqe bolts to spec. 14.reverse steps 5 to 1 15.check for leaks.

These pumps may be purchased in some hardware stores or farm supply stores. One could be adapted to a bicycle- type drive. Small pumps have about a 50% efficiency so you would need to produce sustained muscle power applied at around 150-200 watts to achieve 75 -100 watts of effective hydraulics. Applied watts = (GPM) (PSI) / 1.277 million (eff.) Where eff. is as a decimal. Edit : A 3/8 drill will pull about 280 watts. I can do 200 watts on an exercise bike, but not for long. I am a 79 heart patient, so you can probably do better..

Q: Every year my family spends a week on a house boat at Lake Powell where it can get extremely hot in the day time. I'd like to build a mist system using pvc pipes and mist spray heads to help cool us down.I'm not sure what kind of water pump to buy? I've looked at different kinds from submersible to non-submersible, all with different amounts of PSI and GPM. I am not familiar with water pumps and could use some community insight.I want to make sure the pump I get does not burn out because of the back pressure it will get due to the mist heads only allowing a little water to escape at a time.I imagine my mist system would have 8 - 12 heads, reaching no more then 30 feet from water source to the end.Any pointers? Thanks!: I am assuming your water source will be the lake …. I would be looking at a submersible pump possibly a pond pump but you need to know what the “lift” is going to be …from the point where you string the mister to the pump {possibly a 15 foot lift} and a pump that will give you at least 25psi. Because you are going to have back pressure, the submersible will reduce the risk of burn out. Also you need to build a simple enclosed container this pump can sit in, with at least a 4”water inlet hole covered with mosquito netting, nylon hosiery, or something to filter the water….otherwise you will constantly be removing the mister heads to clean

Q: I have a 2000 Dodge Stratus and recently had the coolant drained (not quot;flushedquot;, as the mechanic wanted to charge $125 extra for that). Prior to that time I never had a single coolant leak, but since then, I've had the coolant leak out slowly over about a 2 week period of normal stop go traffic. Now the mechanic is saying the water pump is leaking, and that's going to be another $600+ more to fix (over 5 hrs of labor), which I really don't have the money for right now.So two questions.. 1) what could've happened to cause the water pump to suddenly start leaking only after the coolant was drained, when it was fine before that? and 2) should I try using a quot;Radiator Stop Leakproduct? I know people say they can plug up the whole radiator, but if that were the case 100% of the time, you'd think these products would've been made illegal a long time ago.SO realistically what are the chances of it doing more harm than good? I still plan on getting the water pump replaced, it'll just have to be awhile.: Stop leak does work in some cases but not for a water pump the leak is coming from the seal on the shaft as for it being $600 for a water pump? find another shop as for a pump from a salvage yard? no the seals are most likely dried out they drain the fluids when they salvage a car . what happened to cause the leak? chances are that when draining the old fluid from the system the fluid was thick from age and holding it togather this is common with cooling systems and transmissions as if u wait to long to change its fluid it will cause the transmission to fail. the pump may be 10yrs old time to replace (not for $600) stop leak while has its places wont work on a moving part (IE water pump shaft)

Q: can a water pump pumping out air instead of water?: It wouldnt last long as the water acts as a lubricant and the seals would fail as a result .The bearings would also overheat if relying on being cooled by the water

Q: Well I know the water pump is leaking and its leaking fast. So I put water in the coolant reservoir and when I drive it acts fine but then when I stop and idle the coolant tank starts too over flow and spits the water out everywhere. Car still being at reg temperature the coolant reservoir is steaming/smoking? I can't tell which. But there doesn't seem to be water in the oil??? What's going on? If the water pump is replaced will this stop?: If you are loosing water due to a leak coming from your water pump the radiator can not hold pressure making the water over heat that is where the steam is coming from and as far as how long it will take you to replace the water pump time will tell if this is your first time it may take you 8 hours but like they say it is better to have tried than to have not tried at all.
