Q: I am having overheating issues with my 1993 3.4L V6 Camaro,Once I start the car with no AC or Heat on while at idle or driving the car will overheat, almost to the red line. When I get onto the highway it will slowly drop all the way down to operating tempeture.Also if I turn on either the AC or Heat while driving around town the car will not overheat.On my way home I turned everything off and let the car overheating, when I got home I opened the hood and the fans are going but still overheating.Also the major sympton is that the water pump will click on and off when I have AC blowing. It will click on and off every 10 seconds or so.New waterpump?: I should change the water pump. The vains or fins in the housing are probably worn. You will see that they are when you pull off and flip it over. Those fins is what keeps the water moving......Steve

Q: OK i was driving and i noticed the gas pedal wouldn't really work and people were telling me to move so right away i moved to the side of the road and got my car towed home. a couple details are that there was smoke coming out of the hood, don't know what part of the engine though.there was not much water in the water pump. my dad thinks that the problem was it was leaking the water.the car turns on ac works it just shakes when it turn on the motor no condition to drive it obviously but it does take a little time to start the engine. i want to know if anyone knows what may be the problem and about how much it may cost.ohh btw this car model is a 1999 Chrysler Sebring Convertible 2 door.thank you!: fill radiator and then start the car. Look for any leaking. Check radiator and all hoses as well as the waterpump. also look at both heads. Still if not then do the following. Watch the radiator cap. If the steam is coming out of the cap then replace it $6. If it still goes out cap then replace the thermostat. If there is no water signs then the head gasket needs replaced

Q: My 2000 Pontiac Sunfire has been overheating and I recently changed the thermostat thinking that was the problem. The new thermostat didn't help and the engine is still over heating. I am starting to think it might be the water pump. How can I tell for sure? When I changed the thermostat and refilled the coolant tank I left the cap off and started the car to work out the air. I was told I should see bubbles in the tank but nothing happened, I thought this might be a sign of a bad water pump. Q: I want to run 1 HP, 220 v, single phase water pump on solar panels without using any batteries. what do I need to do so amp; how do I wire it?: Several huge panels, into an inverter than can provide the required amperage. You realize the pump will only run when the panels are receiving light, don't you? While you may not wish to use batteries, without the batteries the system will only work when and if it gets enough sun to actually provide the required power. It may actually burn out the system or even the motor trying to run on less power than it needs.

Q: Could my problem be greater than a water pump or thermostat?: Well first of all thermostates don't make leaks, -- unless they don't open, in which case boiling makes water run out! And of course it could be waterpump, it could also be radiator hoses, and radiator itself, as well as heater hoses, and heater core! In extreme case it could even be head gasket going bad! (But defiantely it will be under the hood!) You just have to check things out an see where it is coming from! Waterpump has a weep hole underneath main housing, -- if it is dripping from there,- the seal in WP is bad. But rest of things should be easy to see if you look carefully! If you have very much water leaking get it fixed quickly, and keep it full, and watch temperature carefully, if it starts overheating shut down engine quickly! If you drive overheated you WILL blow head gasket, and if going even further- too hot, it will expire engine! This is very expensive!

One major problem with all of the front engine front wheel drive cars is the cost of replacing a water pump can be 2 to 4 times as much in labor as the front engine rear wheel drive vehicles of the 70a and 80s for example my suburban was a total of 200 dollars not so with the cavalier The water pump itself was not too bad but the labor getting to it sucks. 104 to 199 dollars for a waterpump and 627 to 800 dollars for the labor could bring you a bill for 732 to 999 dollars lets hope its the cheaper of the estimates
