- Q: Give me a general intro. about submersible water pumps.
- A water pump can have all the works above the water, pulling by suction and pushed by atmospheric pressure to a maximum of about 33 feet. Or it can have the motor above water and the lifting mechanism below with a long rod connecting (like an oil well with the donkey engine on the surface), but a bunch of weight and friction. Or it can be waterproofed and the motor and pump lowered down the drilled shaft on a plastic pipe with an electrical cord along side and push the water up. The last is a submersable. Similarly sump pumps and recirculating pumps where the cord, motor, and pump are under the liquid.
- Q: So I purchased this car last week. It ran great for three days until it started leaking water so much that it caused it to over heat. My uncle checked it out for me and said it was either the seal or the water pump. Yesterday we replaced the seal and still leaking water. So we now know it is the water pump. My uncle and every mechanic I know has turned down the job saying it is too much work. I even called two small shops yesterday and got turned down saying it was too much work. It is Sunday so most mechanics are closed. Can anyone give me an estimate on how much this will cost. The problem is everyone is saying that the pump is located inside the timing belt which is hard to put back after replacing the pump. Anyone ever have this repair done before or know a price range. I am a college student and need this car running asap and only got about $500 i can put into it. It is a V6 engine.Thanks
- I okorder /... any one with a Haynes manual and a lot patience can do it, so if your short on money you may just have to ask every friend and family you know if someone can do it for you. Just make sure its the water pump. It will be leaking out from the timing cover, if its leaking from anywhere else it not the water pump (assuming you have a Mitsubishi engine. if it is the Chrysler V-6 it will be leaking from the water pump itself, and takes a whole 30 mins to change, do it your self).

- You need to get a second opinion from a knowledgeable friend or family member. When you say water pump , do you mean the well pump or is it a pump connected to the furnace that helps cycle hot water through radiators in the house? Please get a second opinion , maybe a friend or family can recommend someone who can help you.

- most cars, it is in the front, driven by the timing belt. If you are going to replace the pump, replace the timing belt also (if there is one), as it's probably overdue, and you have to remove it to get at the water pump. Also the tensioner. Replacing the timing belt is a difficult task. If you screw it up, you could damage the engine. .
- Q: we live in the country in the warm months and have a portable pump that takes water from a 15 foot deep well. It feeds water to a toilet and a hot water tank mostly and a sink and shower and washer. We put the pump outside the bathroom and need to know how to start it, thanks!
- Make sure the foot valve is working. Fill the pump and the suction hose with water. Start the pump. It should pic-up and pump. Its very important that the foot valve holds when the pump shuts down. Good luck
- Q: My water pump keeps getting quite hot after each use. Everything seems to be working properly, except I think that the heat may cause it to burn out and that would cause a huge problem. My pump pulls water from a ground level water tank and pushes water up three flats to the part of my house used for living quarters. The pressure setting is set to cut out at 40psi and cut in at 25psi. What can I do myself before calling in expensive experts?
- might be bearings in the motor or could need a good cleaning and reapcking with heavy lithium grease or maybe get some kind of colloing fan or raditor system to keep it cool !

- Q: I have just replaced the timing belts on my 94 Civic Si and my 00 Elantra GLS. Both were done at different shops, but i got the same hounding to replace the water pump when doing the belt. My Elantra has 66k and my Civic 85k and i know how important the timing belt is-especially with a negative clearance engine like the VTEC. previously, i've never been told to replace the waterpump with the timing belt til now. is this just a ruse to extort more money out of me, or is there some validity in what the guy behind the counter is saying??
- Not sure about Elantra, but for Honda, the water pump is driven off of timing belt. If you are going to put in 4 hours of labor tearing up to replace timing belt, it would be silly not to replace the water pump because if water pump goes out, then you have to put in that 4 hour labor again. In my experience, water pump life is around 80 - 120K for most cars.
