Q: I am trying to find the value on a generator we’re trying to sell which is becoming a real headache since the thing was made in China. All I know about it is it was made by Shanghai Tractor and Internal Combustion Engine Corp and it’s a 20kw diesel generator. It’s about 5 years old but has only been used once since we purchased it. How would I go about finding the value for this generator? I need to have it sold as soon as possible.: Companies like China Star have become famous for diesel generators, so being from China is not a negative. Just look up any US made generator and reduce by about %30 to get value. I think a US generator of that size, which is sufficient for a whole house, should run about $2500. So as used slightly, I would start around $1800 I think. But you may have to come down to $1000 if the market happens to be slow. Check on Craigslist to compare. I am only guessing off the top of my head. It is contractors who buy them the most, and few people are building right now.

Q: believe the mh didnt come with a seperate 12v power supply to run items after the mh engine is stopped! I want to run these items seperately from the mh engine 12v system if possible. The mh has its own stock inverter but i am unable to locate a pwer supply other than the 12v battery in the engine compartment which is used for the primary engine power supply. Does this sound right. For instance are their electrical systems that rely solely on the main or engine battery power supply(without a secondary seperate accesories battery or power supply) and are totally reliant on charging only from the engine charging system. I do have a 2500 watt external generator but i am limited on the hours of usage. Mainly i am interested in running the light ,tv and vcr without assistance of my external generator. How the hell do i set this all up??: Get a second battery, a battery isolater, and a power inverter. You may also want to add a 12 volt battery charger. For the second battery get a deep cycle battery. This will last you longer. Install the battery in a battery box and make sure the box is vented to the outside. When a battery is charged or in use it can produce hydrogen gas which if not properly vented could cause an explosion or fire. You can get these through any major auto supply store or any major department store that has an automotive department that sells batteries. You can also find them at boat dealerships. The battery isolater is like a one way valve for electricity. It will allow the second battery to be charged by your motor home's alternator, but won't drain the main battery so your motor home will start. You can find these at most RV dealerships. The power inverter will convert the 12 volt DC power to 120 volt AC power. Get a power inverter with enough capacity to run all of your items plus a little reserve. You can find these at most major auto supply stores. Your run time battery power alone will depend on how large of deep cycle you buy and how fully it is charged. If you add a 12 volt battery charger this will charge your battery when your motor home is connected to 120 volt power. Be sure to select a fully automatic battery charger so your battery is not over charged. You can find these at RV dealerships or they can be ordered through most major auto supply stores. It would also be a good idea to use heavy enough gage wiring to prevent any wiring problems. Also, strategicaly place fuses in both the 12 volt and 120 volt systems to protect your investment.

There is a maximum steady state temperature, which can be exceeded for short periods, say, 10 to 20 %, given by the engine mfr. The minimum load for an engine which runs at constant speed, i.e., a power generator, is about 50%. Below that it starts to shake dangerously. . .

There are also diesel power plants that are the only power supply for remotely located installations and communities; for example, remote radar stations and island resort towns. In a diesel plant, there are one or more diesel generator sets, consisting of a diesel engine and a suitable generator. A typical arrangement would involve three generators of which any two can handle the peak load while the third can be held as a standby unit or dismantled for major maintenance at intervals. There will be a switchyard that contains the electrical contactors and safety devices for connecting the generators to the grid as needed, and there will be control panels for the individual generators, as well as synchronizing gear to keep the generators in phase. In many installations these controls are computerized and can be operated and monitored at a distance over the internet or other communications arrangement. Q: Aside from the fact that they just had a massive natural disaster and there resources are stretched to say the least, what is main reason they cant get the reactor under control?From what I've heard it's not receiving enough power to maintain cooling system so it can maintain controlled fission.In my limited understanding it seems the plant survived relatively unscathed other than there diesel generators being flooded/destroyed. The plant is currently on battery backup's which I assume are relatively large and cant just be switched out to maintain the cooling system. Is it just an issue of supplying enough power for the cooling system? Couldn't they park the the USS Ronald Reagan off shore there and borrow some power until stabilized, considering you could power a sizable city off its reactor?: You could, but that's unnessecary at this point. The batteries supply enough power to the facility for them to shut down the reactor if they have to, so as long as they still have their kill switch there's no need for panic just yet.
