Q: and diesel generator and ATS that switches between two electrical sources ??
There may be no difference. It will depend on the application. For example, if I specified an ATS that had the proper voltage and current capacities, the only other item of concern would be to determine if the transfer would be a make before break or a break before make type of transfer. In a make before break, it would mean the sources would be placed into parallel operating condition before one of the sources was interrupted. This would require the ability to synchronize the sources. Which means the frequency, voltage and phase relationship of the sources must match before they are placed into parallel service. On a break before make switch, usually only phase rotation and approximate voltage levels are of concern. Hope this helps, Newton1Law
Q: engine is on a generator with about 800 hrs. changed fuel and fuel is getting to cylinder, pulled valve cover and valves are moving like they should, sprayed either in air intake and still no pop. any ideas other than to scrap the engine
Either needs a little fuel present to combust properly in an engine. If there isn't any, either won't do anything except make the engine spin over faster. Double check to make sure the injector pump is supplying fuel to the injectors.
Q: can DG's be used as a backup for single phase and three phase ac?
Yes but they need to match the power source they are replacing.
Q: I was offered a job in the same general posistion for a YOUNG company that has offered me 15.00 more a hour, lead position, training in a differnt brand of the same product I work on and, basicly the freedom to choose my own hours (avg. 40-55 hrs). Or do I stay where I am at were I have some stabability, lead position, unstable hours (avg. 40-65 hrs plus nights away from home/family), possabilities of advancment and, a since of loyalty to bosses. Note: I worked hard to get where I am at, however, my current knowledge is the bases for new job. WHAT DO I DO????????????

Q: I just learned there are 2 cycle diesel engines.What machines use them?Also,Why does Jeep still use an in-line 6 cylinder as opposed to a V-6?
two stroke diesels are still in use today most of them are in the marine field powering large boats and alot are still in generators and you still see quite a few in buses. I've also seen one on a drag strip. as for the in line six vs. the v6 the jeep is well known for an excellent trail vehicle of witch torque is desired at lower rpm and the the inline engine does just that it provides ample toque for the jeeps stock size for most trails.

WITH A ITALIAN ELECTRONIC DIAGNOSTICS CONTROL PANEL WITH BREAKERS ETC.WHEN RUNNING A ESAB CADDY PROFESSIONAL 140 INVERTER WELDER @130 AMPS USING 4 MM HARDFACING RODS, ON FIRST STRIKE THE GENSET CUTS OUT AND DIE.WHEN USING A COPPER WOUND TRANFORMER WELDER THE THING RUNS WELL BUT WILL NOT STOP WHEN I HIT THE KEY TO TURN OFF OR EMERGENCY STOP BUTTON.NOTE; THIS IS A STANDBY GENSET IN THAT I JUST PLUGGED IN A WELDER, THE GENSET IS NOT A DEDICATED WELDING GENERATOR.I USED OTHER DIESEL GENSETS PRIOR WITHOUT ANY PROBS.WILL ANY1 HAVE ANY CLUES? Does the Esab welder have high frequency? If so the high freq. is feeding back into the generator and frying the electronics. You may need to have the generators repaired. The only way to prevent damage is to turn the high freq. off, or drive an earth ground as close to the welder as possible and you have to run a wire to your grounding clamp to this ground and the machine ground needs to go to this also. You have to get the high freq. out of the circuit as quick as possible. (I have a Hobart Champion Fabshop that is notorious for this.)
Q: Are they cranked by a self starter? Is there such an immensely powerful self starter that runs off batteries and can start such a big engine?Or are they started by some gasoline powered motor?
A diesel engine is started (like an automobile) by turning over the crankshaft until the cylinders fire or begin combustion. The starting can be done electrically or pneumatically. Pneumatic starting was used for some engines. Compressed air was pumped into the cylinders of the engine until it gained sufficient speed to allow ignition, then fuel was applied to fire the engine. The compressed air was supplied by a smallauxiliary engine or by high pressure air cylinders carried by the locomotive. Electric starting is now standard. It works the same way as for an automobile, with batteries providing the power to turn a starter motor which turns over the main engine. In older locomotives fitted with DC generators instead of AC alternators, the generator was used as a starter motor by applying battery power to it.
Q: And this person said it also all depends on what PLANT the stuff came from. No wonder the asian kids are ahead of us.
If it's a diesel generator, why could it not run on BioDiesel? Not sure about the plant part, but provided it's not unleaded, I see no reason to not consider Bio as an option.
Q: I don't see why I couldn't use my car's engine as a power generator. I would only need maybe 1000 watts. The car is a 1990 Ford F350 diesel.
You can buy inverters that connect to your battery that will produce 1000w Try NAPA or any large aftermarket auto sales company
