- The only thing I can think of is watch the second Thomas Edison Bio film and pay careful attention to when he is working on lighting up the city using his electric light bulb. He had to synchronize two generators at that point. I'm sure you can find the answer there.

- One that runs on propane will be the best as far as pollution goes. Gas gives the more power, diesel would cost too much and of course, pollutes the most. You need to calculate the total wattage you'll be using and buy a generator rated for it. Note that on most generators the advertised wattage is serge wattage and the sustainable wattage is less.

- Diesel Issues: Regular oil changes - about 2:1 to a gas-fired generator. Diesel fuel is may gel in very cold weather - you may have to use a kerosene mix. Diesel fuel has a shelf-life such that you will have to add fuel stabilizers and run out the fuel at least three times per year (more in a humid climate) to prevent breakdown. You will have to change the fuel filter at least once per year. If you run out of diesel and cannot get to it - you are out of luck. Which leads to liquid fuel storage issues, shelf-life and so forth. Diesel fuel is a bit over twice the cost of natural gas as a fuel in this situation. Go with the natural gas unit. It is new, has a warranty and you _know_ that it will have no hidden flaws. Now, if by Gas you mean gasoline - go with the diesel unless you are in a very cold climate. Hands down.

- what you need to do is run that generator with a quality diesel engine and you need to get some commercial companies to advise you the power, amps, and you will need to have some time off the line so your refrigeration will need to be of good quality to stay cold for 5/6 hours while people sleep --- or else you need to have an excellent muffler system for that power plant you probably need to figure how to have some farming so you get the farm discount on the fuel .

- Connect a device that will measure the line frequency whilst the generator is running (digital multimeter) slowly decrease the RPM until 50 Hz is reached. This should be done after the generator has warmed up for about 10 minutes.

- I guess it depends as to the level of comfort you want to maintain during an outage. Do you want to run all the AC units while on generator power or can you be comfortable with only one running at a time? Needless to say natural gas is the most dependable fuel in most cases. Also, there are no storage problems as with petrol and diesel. A 20 KW Generac natural gas generator with a 200 amp automatic transfer switch can be purchased for less than $5,000.00. I can only guess at the cost of installation. We had a devastating ice storm here 2 years ago and I have since installed many of these whole house systems including my own. In most cases the installation costs were less than $1500.00. (plumbing and electrical) This should power your home adequately in most emergency situations. The noise level is easily controlled with the placement of the generator in relation to your home's living and sleeping areas. Operating costs will exceed your normal energy cost as the generator will run at full speed 24/7 and cost will also increase in relation to fuel comsumption depending on the load. Probably about double your normal energy cost. Good luck!
