- Q: I just opened up the water pump on my '86 cr250 and found it to be pretty dry. Found out why as soon as I threw some light on it. Yep, all but a TINY hole in both hose nipples (?) are completely gunked up in some nice light green/white crap.Does anybody know what this is? Okay obviously it's coolant, but why is it so dry? What causes it? My bike never quot;overheatedquot;, but there's very little travel room for the liquid. What should I do now? Clean it out and run new water through it?
- Appears your cooling system has not been flushed for years thus the build-up of slime, (seems maybe even 'dry-slime'). The cooling system should be flushed clean, a new water pump and gaskets installed.

- The pump bracket pivots that allows the belt to be removed. I've seen a few where the alternator belt is over the top of the water pump belt, so you have to remove it first. Actually a pretty easy job.
- Q: I have replaced the presure switch on my water pump but it switches on and off when it is building up presure instead on staying on until it gets to right presure.Any ideas of what is causing this?
- All good answerers here. I would drain down the pump, remove the pressure switch and also remove the nipple that it screws on to and clean it out. Now put the pressure switch and nipple back in. At the top of your pressure tank there is an air valve. Take a tire gauge and read the pressure. If your pressure switch was a 30/50 there should be 27 to 28 lbs of air in your tank. If water comes out, your tank is water logged and needs to be replaced. If it's low on add to 27-28 lbs. Hopefully this will take care of your problem, it not send more info about what happened. Pay attention to the readings your pressure guage. Good Luck!!

- It's better not to start directly. It's a great test for your motor and contactor. Do a star three start, conditional on doing a star three plus autotransformer start, reducing the starting current. Reduce future maintenance costs. Since do not think about every day to do pump repair.

- Q: My 1998 Dodge Dakota V6 heater only gets warm, I have replaced the thermostat. I have back flushed the heater core. The heater hose coming from near the thermostat gets hot, but the hose coming from the heater core going to the water pump only gets warm. The large hose coming from the thermostat is hot near the engine, but is only warm near the radiator. Is the water pump bad? If I open the radiator cap there is no signs of circulation. - about all you can check on a water pump is for free play in a front bearing,if its not circulating real good that's a true sign the blades on the pump are getting worn out,if its not circulating good replace it,you should have back pressure built up in the system when you remove the cap also,this may also be sign there may be a leak in the cooling system,good luck.
- Q: If you use a water pump to move water through a circular trench, essentially making a little river, and then place some kind of turbine or water wheel or something to generate electricity from the moving water, couldn't you use the electricity generated by the turbine to power the pump, thus requiring no outside power?
