Q: What's the function of the engine pump?
In simple terms, the engine is cooled to prevent the engine from getting too high.Working principle:Drive the pump bearings and the impeller to rotate through the pulley, the coolant pump impeller is driven to rotate together, under the action of centrifugal force was thrown to the edge of the pump shell, and produce a certain pressure, and then from a channel or pipe outflow. At the center of the impeller, the pressure is lowered because the coolant is thrown out, and the coolant in the water tank is sucked into the impeller by the water pipe and the pressure difference between the inlet of the impeller and the center of the impeller to realize the reciprocating circulation of the cooling liquid.
Q: 1978 Ranchero 500. Pumps leaking like crazy. I have a belt to remove, which i assume is the serpentine belt? Its tight as can be on the pulleys. I have no clue how to remove this and any other advice on this do-it-yourself project would be much appreciated. Thanks
being a 78 it probably has a V belt instead of a serpentine belt. you loosen the adjustment bolt on the alternator and the long through bolt, push the alternator and the belt should come off. you will need to take the fan off, it should have 4 bolts to take out to remove the fan. then you take the hose off after you drain the radiator and take out the water pump bolts and pry off the pump. now before installing the new pump make sure the gasket surface is clean and dry. put some good sealer on both sides of the gasket. to keep the gasket from moving i use string like thread and tie the gasket on. put the pump in place, put the bolts back in and tighten them, put the hose back on, put the fan back on and tighten the bolts and refill the radiator. if you want good sealer use what i use. i use indian head shellac. once that stuff gets set up it won,t leak. auto zone sells it in a small brown bottle.
Q: I just bought a house and we have well water. When I went out to change the filter on the pump I noticed a valve leaking...I went to check on it and noticed it had two settings if you will. one says System and the other says by pass if I move the lever to system the leak stops, if I move it back to bypass the leak continues...question is which one should I have it set on and what is the purpose?
Okay, Adam, we also have a well and just put in a new one. The setting that says System means that the water is running through the filter. The setting that says by pass means that the water is NOT running through the filter. You will have water either way in your house (or you should). It is just either, it is running through the filter, or it is not. I hope I have helped. gram
Q: need to know how to change water pump of my plymouth voyager its a 96 and motor is a 4.
This is the 2.4L dual cam 4 cyl. The water pump is spun by the timing belt. Get a manual and follow the instructions to change the timing belt and pump. Plan on taking several hours.
Q: can a failing water pump sound like rattling or popcorn until the motor begins to over heat? the sound is nearthe waterpump. it goes away once the temp starts to overheat.the temp will get near redline then go down to normal and then start creeping up again. thanks for any replies.
I wouldn't do that one very often. It could be the impellers on your water pump (broken or seized)..in which case it will need replacing
Q: looking for ideas and info to build a simple and rustic wind powered pump for a backyard pond. I don't want to use any elecricity and I would like to create something that once its made, will be trouble free and simplistic in operation. I esp. want info regarding the vane design and the method of drawing the water. I would appreciate any web sites, but I don't want to buy any pre-designed thing or plans.
I suggest you buy one ready-made if you want trouble-free operation. Here in rural NZ they're common on farms. You can buy versions that stop pumping when your pond water has reached a certain level. They don't need any electric power and they work for years without problems. As you probably know, suction pumps can only raise water about 10 metres, but I think you can buy wind-powered pumps that push the water up from below. The vanes are connected to the piston at the bottom of the bore by a linkage.
Q: We use this water pump for about 2 years, and in the last week the circuit breaker trip when we turn on the pump. What should I check first for the problem?
Is it a circuit breaker or a GFCI that is tripping? If a circuit breaker then the pump motor could be frozen or is binding, circuit maybe over loaded because there in now something else plugged into it or the circuit breaker is wearing out. If it is GFCI (and on a pump it probably should be) then you have a ground fault condition in the pump motor or the wiring. In which case I would suggest hire an electrician to sort out the problem.
Q: I have a Honda Accord, and last week I replaced the Radiotor, due to a leak. This week the Water pump broke, it was making a ver loud noise and major leak, when I opened the rad, basically all the fluid was drained.Do you think the two are related? or do you think when the Rad was replaced it was not done properly which caused the water pump to break? Thanks.
If your radiator went then it is highly likely that regular maintenance ie rad flushing, fluid changes have not been taking place. Water pump will have nothing to do with the rad, unless when rad was leaking you ran vehicle with no lubrication (water-antifreeze mix) to water pump. The pump will just seize up or crack. These issues are probably just age related. If the rad was defective or you had coolant issues, the lights on your dash would indicate low fluid engine overheat of course you wouldn't drive it then. Everybody knows what a dummy light is for, right.
Q: i have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee, started overheating last week, i flushed out the radiator with water, i replaced the thermostat, overheated again, i felt the top radiator hose it was cold. so i replaced the water pump. still overheated. every time i drain the system when i refill it i had red to fill the radiator and reservoir, leave the radiator cap off, then start the engine and turn the heat on max, the radiator burps the air bubble out, then the coolant level in the radiator starts going up and down, my thermostat is rated at 195, when the guage hits 210 hot coolant sprays out of the radiator, but the top radiator hose is cold, what am i doing wrong? is there air still trapped in that top radiator hose?
id say its the radiator after all what ya replaced. have it checked out at a shop. before ya do though ya might do a complete flush of the motor and the cooling system. might be a blockage in a water jacket in the motor. ya can buy the flush kit at any parts store, its simply a T that ya splice into on of the heater core hoses, hook up a water hose, turn heater on, and wait with the engine running. if theres any blockage it will spit and sputter till its pushed out with the water pressure. let it idle till clear water comes out then drain and add coolant. try this first with water only and if it doesnt solve your problem id say ya need a radiator.
Q: Do you need a stop valve for the pump at home?
It is better to connect with the pump. If it is a self suction pump, it can not be connected, but when it is pumped, it does not immediately have water, and the submersible pump is not necessaryMy home is a self suction pump, fully automatic control, I took the check valve, in the pump suction port position is very good, as long as it has started, there will be water out
