Q:I am totally clueless to this stuff. I want to get a wiring harness that will fit a Pioneer single DIN head unit and will also clip into my 2012 Silverado without having to cut any wires. Help?: Just go to a car audio store and ask for 2012 chevy silverado wire harness($10-$15).it clicks in to the part that was connected with the stalk sterio. They shuld be the same color as the ones on back of your new sterio,just match em and there u go!.you'll need a dash kit as well

Q:hello. i took out my old radio from my 1995 jeep cherokee. and i cut the wires from the old wiring harness. and now they are to short. and i want to put back in my old radio and still have the little adaptar/harness. . but the wires are two short to connect. how can i take those out safely so i can take the metal ends of them and put them onto the wires in the jeep then snap them back into the harness.: Buy a couple feet of 16 gauge THHN wire and some crimp-on butt splices. Use a wire crimper to strip the short wires, and butt splice a few inches of the new wire on to the short ends. Then connect the new wires to the harness. ACE hardware should have everything you need. An auto supply house might also.

Also, the factory radio is controlled by the vehicle's data bus system, and it generates the vehicle's audible warning chimes (key chime, lights left on, etc). If you don't mind losing the warning chimes, and doing a little extra wiring to connect an accessory power source to the new head unit, you can use a Metra 70-2003 harness. If you want to keep the chimes, or make the installation as easy as possible, and you don't mind spending more money, look for a Metra GMRC-01 or GMOS-01 adapter module.

Q:I have a 2005 mercury montego premiere and just installed a new head unit. Everything worked fine. I have a pioneer head unit that plays DVDs but I didn't wire it to my parking brake when I first put it in. Today I decided to do so got it all out, then had an urgent call and couldn't connect it. As I was putting the radio back in, something sparked and started to smoke, (yellow cords where showing a little bit, might have touched metal) I took it to a car audio shop and tested the head unit, and it worked just fine. Could I have broke(shoted) the harness that connects the colored wires together and the other side connects to my car wiring(they plug in) OR could I have broke something with my car wiring. I checked audio fuses, they are fine. PLEASE HELP I BEG: The Yellow wire, is the Constant +12V. So, it is possible that you burned up part of the harness or factory amplifier if it grounded. Double check the fuse box under the hood, if you don't have power there. If it doesn't work, try the factory radio, if it works, the amp( if it has one) would be ok, and maybe you might just need a new harness. Double check all of your connections, and make sure they are secure, and completely covered. Good Luck!
