- If you have an overheat problem the water pump IS NOT your problem. Save money and go to a RADIATOR SHOP and get an answer to your problem. Guessing is very expensive.
- Q: ive just replaced my water pump as i know it wasnt in good shape and was a big cause of my problems. but the new water pump also seems to make a noise once in a while like its dry and there isnt anywater or its having a hard time. the head is good and has an extra thick headgasket on it. my guess is i have a clogged radiator and it would sound reasonable as i have used head gasked sealant in the radiator and it has prob clogged parts of it. the other symptom is afater about 4 hrs of continuous driving it starts to over heat if im doing 70 bor more but if i drop back down to 65 it seems to stable out or in many cases go down all together. anyone else had thes symptoms. and will a water pump make noise if there isnt anywater to pump.
- what is the 22r fitted in as most run a thermo fan assy which is fitted to the front of the water pump if you have this then most likely the thermo is either just about to seize or it's still turn's then its in freewheel mode the best way to check is when the motor is cold check and se if you have a thermo fan fitted if so out one blade at 12 oclock and spin with one hand if the blade goes down past 3 oclock then you will need to open the coupling this is a simple job you will see 8 phillips head screws remove all and crack open the coupling but before this is done go to your local toyota dealer and purchase 1x 08816 10001 silicone empty this into the coupling and close this will fix your problem

As the losses are more[due to piping congetion or rasistance from the equipment to which it is pumping.] then the discharge head will be decreased. *Simply, in case of a centrifugal pump,close the discharge valve fully for a moment and check the discharge pressure. This is the maximum pressure ,your pump will pump. *Dont do this if the pump is positive displacement pump/regenerative turbine pump. Edit: Discharge head means pumping height in your case.
- Q: My '95 Ford Ranger has had the sound of a bearing going bad in a pulley for about two months. Finally this weekend I started it up and it must have locked up, the belt was squealing really loud and snapped. So, now the water pump pulley has rubber chunks on it, which would make me think that is the bad pulley. But the pulley spins perfectly, really smooth. The alternator pulley on the other hand does not spin perfectly. It is not really hard to spin, but it does not spin smoothly. And the alternator pulley is real clean, no rubber on it at all. Any thoughts? I was thinking of buying a cheap belt and putting it on there, have someone start the truck and watch under the hood to see which is bad.
- First, you should have checked it when it started, instead of thinking it will go away. Well, it went away. Go ahead and buy the new belt. before you put it on, lubricate the idler pulley bearing. After you put it on, have someone else start the car while you eyeball the water pump pulley and the alternator pulley. Whichever one that appears to be skipping is the bad one.

- It may not be your water pump at all. It could be a blown head gasket or a cracked block. Do you drive it very much? If you do and it doesn't totally overheat, it isn't your water pump. Water pumps usually tend to make a lot of noise when they go bad. Depending on the temperature of the air where you live, I would say don't worry too much about white clouds coming out of your exhaust. You do notice I said white? Condensation in an exhaust pipe is normal. Check the little stuff first. Check your thermostat and radiator cap first. Those are inexpensive. Have your radiator checked at the local Mom and Pop radiator shop where they will also check your hoses and engine oil, to see if it looks like mud. That will tell you if you have a cracked block. Total overheating can be a blown head gasket which is expensive because of labor. The parts cost is minimal, it is just a total b i t c h because you have to get the whole top of the motor off. Have your freeze plugs checked too and if they are plastic, have them replaced with brass ones. It is a very old vehicle and you are going to be looking at some money to fix things. I hope I helped, although you didn't tell me the name of the vehicle. That would help a bit more and if you know it is the water pump, go get a new one!!!!!!! And check your fan belts too while you're at it. Good luck! :) I'm just a dumb lady...lol!

It seems to me it is not very hard to do, but who knows, it might end up being a very tricky job. Did anyone replace the water pump on 97 corolla before? How difficult was it? Two things I actually worry: 1. It might be hard to unbolt the water pump pulley, because there is little room insert a wrench. 2. Also, because of the lack of room, it would be also hard to unbolt the timing belt cover (the 2nd/middle cover). A shop gave the quote of $440 to replace the water pump, and I think I should be able to do it myself.
- Think about the engine timing, its the most important. If you put the timing belt back in at wrong timing it'll be a big problem.
