Q:I have a quot;Rainbow Lifeguard Quiet One 6000external pump that I would like to use on a new chiller for my tank. The pump is rated at a little over 1500 gallons per hour. I'm debating between a couple of chillers, one that has a max flow rate of 1300 gph and another that has a max of 960.I know that you are only supposed to put any valves on the outflow side of the pump and lessening the flow to 1300 from 1500 doesn't seem like it would be that big of a problem, but I was curious it cutting it back to 960 would be hard on the pump in the long run. (I'm leaning towards the bigger chiller as although it may be overkill for my tank, it would let me have a little more water circulation.): ditto to magic

Q:i have a water leak near the water pump in my 1990 cadillac deville i replaced the water pump but it was remanufactured and a pipe on the back of the water pump can it be a heater core or should i buy a brand new one p.s. water leaks after it passes the radiator: this is why I do not buy remanufactured pumps, it is best to buy a new water pump if you can, it will last the lifetime of the car pretty much, remanufactured for what ever reason the water pumps just did not do the job, and I know my mechanic got tired of putting one on, only to have to take it off because it leaked, make sure the water pump is the problem though.

Q:Water is leaking from the front of my car, on the right where the radiator is located. only thing is that its not leaking a lot, just a little.... but people keep telling me that my timing belt is going to go out and that i will be stranded!. i will like to know the cost of both the water pump and timing belts for my 2001 PT Cruiser please.: A suggestion. If your car is around 70,000 to 100,000 miles then you should change the timing belt. If it breaks, it will leave you stranded, and cost you more because the engine may be damaged. (girlfriend ignored the warning and it cost her $1000 in engine parts - I was the free labor!) Because the timing belt runs the water pump, most mechanics recommend changing the water pump at the same time, the water pump does not cost that much more. Parts and labor for this cost about $700 to $1000, sometimes it costs a bit more because the idler pulley is worn and must be replaced also. As for your leak, it would be best to have the cooling system pressure tested to find the spot of the leak. If its sometime other than the water pump, you'll be glad you found it early. Good luck.

Q:i have a problem with what i think is my water pump, and i was wonder if anyone had any websites that have free engine diagrams, and if it is my water pump, it turns on and off when at idle, is that normal, if not, what could be the problem?: you can go to your local chevy dealership service center and not only they can get any part you need they can give you a diagram of your engine. i hope this is helpful to you and good luck.

Q:Colleagues, could you explain the principles of operation of the water vane vacuum pump? What range of pressure can one achieve with this type of vacuum pump? If somebody could post a reference to books, app notes, commercial datasheets of such pumps, that would be simply great.: I'm not telling you it all but you can take an A.C vacuum pump and it will lower the boiling point of the water where it will boil at only 65 to 75 degrees Ferlinghetti

Q:i know a little bout cars always fixed my own since day one but this is the first car i have ever had/workd on with a internal water but thats driven off timeing chain my cars running hot and its holding prusser so i know its not radator or hoses but i need to know a way to check and make sure its the water pump befor i go tearing the engine apart: When the engine is cold, open the radiator cap and leave it off. Start the car and let it warm up. After about 10 minutes the thermostat should open and you will see the coolant flowing past the radiator opening. It should be fairly forceful, and that's the water pump.

Q:trying to instal pump and I can't get fan blade off It is a1999 chev 5,7 vortex: As John M said, they make special wrenches to remove the fan clutch from the water pump. It can be a pain in the... When I did mine on my 97, I ended up removing the fan and pump as one piece from the truck, then had to weld the impeller of the water pump to the housing to keep it from spinning, then use a big wrench on the fan clutch to get it loose!!! It was way too tight. Hopefully yours isn't that tight, but maybe it gave you an idea on how to get it apart. Good luck

Q:I have a 1990 js550 that i picked up for a project. When in the water it overheats and minimal water comes out the tell tail. When on the tap it runs fine no overheating, so i disconnected the hose from the back of the ski where it sucks the water in and ran a garden hose directly to it. And the ski ran fine.I also cleaned all the tubes out with air.I am not getting enough water flow through the ski when it is in the water. Is there a water pump inside the motor?There is definitely no blockages, there is just no enough pressure to keep it cool.Thanks: Jet Ski Pump

Q:I just had my water pump/timing belt replaced and oil change. When the pump failed, white smoke was coming out, which I figured out to be coolant from the smell. Now there is smoke coming out from under the engine, which I believe to smell like oil. Also, the temperature gauge goes up to the halfway point when I am at a stoplight or idling. The highest I have ever seen it is at 1/3.I had my car serviced by the dealership and I asked them. The man said its burning oil residue from the oil change and that it will burn away in a few days. Is this true? I have had my car worked on and oil changed for the past year at this dealership and have never had any smoke or other problems. What else could be going on? Worse case scenarios. Q:I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu with 123xxx miles on it. I notice coolant being leaked on the floor heavily and my car gets hot driving. It leaks when the car is on and stops when it is off. Could it be a water pump? What r the signs of a bad water pump?: Doubt it is the water pump, it is more likely the lower intake manifold gaskets are leaking. This is a common issue on the 3.1L Malibu. NOTE: DON'T drive it like this, you may do serious damage to the engine. Better take it in for a Cooling system pressure test.
