Q: I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu with 123xxx miles on it. I notice coolant being leaked on the floor heavily and my car gets hot driving. It leaks when the car is on and stops when it is off. Could it be a water pump? What r the signs of a bad water pump?
When you can't see it on the engine. It is usually at the back of the timing quilt. Many engines are now hooked up that way. The timing belt also runs your water pump. And if you happen to must substitute the water pump. You are going to also replace the timing belt. Which is an efficient thought any method .Considering a 2001 may have many miles ,and nearly able for the belt to break. Leaving you stranded.
Q: How do you remove it without taking the engine out?
remove front right tire and then remove plastic cover to get to it
Q: When we turn our water on in the house it will run for a while and then shut off.. It has been coming back on after 5 0r 6 mins.it used to do this about once a week but now it does it every day we don't mess with any breakers because they don't get triped . We are on well and this well is about 7 yrs old anyone have an idea what could be the problem .. If any more info is needed I can reply..
Would say the pressure switch is bad. You might try TURNING OFF THE POWER to the well. Use a voltage tester to make sure it is off. Use a finger nail file to file the contacts of the switch, make sure they are clean and smooth when you are through. Turn power on and watch operation of the switch, If you have a pressure gage at the switch the switch should make at about 30 psi and open at about 50 psi. If you have to replace switch be sure and add a pressure gage as it is very helpful in setting switch and troubleshooting system..
Q: Theirs a house on a hill and a pond at the bottom of the hill what kind of pump can pull water 50ft up a hill?
A water suction style pump can only pull at maximum , 30 ft vertical (more like 25 with inefficiencies). You didn't specify if it was 50 ft vertical distance up the hill or just 50 ft from the pond on a grade with maybe a smaller than 25ft vertical height difference. If it is less than 25 you can use the cheap centrifugal pumps or diaphragm pumps located at the house. By far it is a better choice to use a pump at the pond to push the water uphill instead of pulling it. A cheap submersible sump pump (less than $70, for a 1/3 hp electric, like a Wayne or something) will pump uphill no problem and doesn't draw much current. If you want to keep the line continuously pressurized you will need a pressure tank in your house and a pressure switch to shut off the pump once it gets to predetermined psi setting If you have a true vertical 50ft distance you might want to install a positive displacement submersible pump in the pond. The more I think about it, the more I think a centrifugal pump (the cheapest design) would have a difficult time pumping 50 ft uphill. So go with a positive displacement style, the same type they put in wells. With the pump put directly in the water you don't have to prime the pump each time you start it either. These pumps do run several hundred dollars though
Q: My water stopped working and my tank emptied. I replaced the pressure switch and the gauge. It still didn't work. The well is about 110'. I pulled the pump and replaced it (1/2 HP, 10 gpm, 2-wire). It still doesn't work. The old pump was 15 years old. The one before only lasted 7 years. The water has a lot of sediment. I have never done this before, but it seemed straightforward enough. The wires on the pump were not differentiated in any way (same color). Could I have put the wires together incorrectly? Could I have put the switch in wrong? It doesn't click on when the breaker is turned on. What else could be wrong? Could the breaker be bad? It wasn't kicked out.
Sounds like the vertical check valve between the end of the pump line and the pressure tank is bad and allowing the water to go back down the pipe when the pump isn't running. Papaw
Q: or how do i remove the water pump?please xplain
You need to get the large nut lose. It holds the fan/fan clutch to the water pump shaft. After you get that off it's all down hill from there.A large adjustable wrench will work on the nut but you will need to keep pump from turning to loosen it. I think it may be left hand thread. It is not on real tight. The book will help on this one.
Q: I have a 1978 El Camino V8 305. My power steering has been going out on me, and since then my belt has been squeaking usually when it first starts up. This morning when I got to work, smoke was bellowing from under my hood. Im trying to troubleshoot. Is it possible that my power steering pump damaged the belt enough that the water pump went out?
If the same belt goes to the water pump and has been really over tighten. It can cause rear in the water pump bearing and damage the seal and cause it to leak out of the weap hole in the both of the water pump hub. Lack of water to engine to cool it can cause added damage. The hold cooling system need to be checked. Including the radiato cap. Usually when a belt sound off when it is started up. Means the belt is ware out. This vehicle the belt can be remove and take power steering toke out of the picture. It will mean hard steering till a new pump can be put on or a rebuilt pump.
Q: My 1998 Dodge Dakota V6 heater only gets warm, I have replaced the thermostat. I have back flushed the heater core. The heater hose coming from near the thermostat gets hot, but the hose coming from the heater core going to the water pump only gets warm. The large hose coming from the thermostat is hot near the engine, but is only warm near the radiator. Is the water pump bad? If I open the radiator cap there is no signs of circulation. How do I check the water pump? Thanks,Gene
to answer your question directly, you can check a water pump the same on any car. water pumps have whats called a weep hole there is a small hole that is designed to leak coolant when your water pump seal goes out. find the pump and see if there is a trail of white from this 'weep hole' then yes your pump is bad. if not, i dont know the layout of the hoses for your car so i couldnt diagnose it for sure. but check your water pump for the signs i gave you. its a tell tale sign
Q: how do i remove and replace the water pump on a 2003 ford focus with a 2.0 engine
You most likely wont be able to do this at home in your own garage. The water pump on this vehicle is driven by the timing belt. In order to access the timing belt, you need to first remove the accessory drive belt, some pulleys, and i thing a couple components like the power steering pump, and the AC compressor as well. Once you have all that stuff out of the way, then you can remove the timing belt cover and begin removing the timing belt, with the timing belt removed, you can now access and unbolt the waterpump gear and then the waterpump itself. It goes back together in reverse order, except you will need a speical tool to hold the two cam gears from moving relevant to one another when you realign them with the crankshaft to put a NEW timing belt on, you shoudl use a new belt since you are forced to replace it while removing the waterpump. Your going to have to take it into a shop, it will be kinda expensive, a timing belt replacement in that vehicle is estimated at 2.2 man hours, the water pump will be only a bit more labor ontop.
Q: i drove up a hill which was about a mile and when i got up the hill i drove anther half a mile to my location and as soon as i tuned my car off i notice coolant leak for the reservoir tank and being dumb i took the cap off off and i think you know so i drove it home after letting it return to a lower temp and it didn't run hot it just raised 2 line above the middle marker and i ran it today just to idle and refilled the tank and let it run it didn't leak but the Serpentine belt made a noise not loud but noticeable (could this be a bad water pump and i flushed my radiator before they swapped engine out which was not long ago) the current engine is used and run fine with power and pep
dont suspect fault, the noise is water on the belt ,will dry out and should be good.
