- Q: Hey everyone. I have a 2002 Ford Ranger, and here lately the windshield wipers along with the power windows periodically stop working. What I mean is, if they are working when I start the truck to go somewhere, they work the whole time. However, I may cut the truck off and then when I start it to go somewhere again the windshield wipers and power windows won‘t work, usually until I get to my destination, turn the truck off, and restart it. Sometimes when I restart it they‘ll work, sometimes not. But then later, I‘ll start it again, and they‘re working again, and will work for a few days!Any ideas what it could be? Wires? Fuse? Something else? How much am I gonna have to fork over to fix this?
- Ignition switch or an ignition controlled relay. Loose wiring. Bad power feed to multiple relays? The wiper relay and power window relay are separate parts. There are MANY relay controlled circuits in that vehicle although many of them are the same part number and are interchangeable. $10 should get you a spare for several. RY612 is the SMC part number. Get hold of a wiring diagram and find the common points. This sort of thing is tedious to track down but parts cost is minimal.
- Q: Someone at my work went to Belle Tire and they said to her that the pressure from windshield wipers can cause the windshield to shatter. She has little thin scratches that can only be seen in the right light and from the inside of the car. She has PWG double plated plexi glass (according to her). Can this happen or is the guy bullshiting her for money?
- Plexiglas, no safety glass, yes. Wiper pressure breaking windshields, no. You could show her by just pushing in on the windshield, you can exert much more pressure then the wimpy wiper can. Give her a scare and drop the wiper on the windshield.
- Q: I am a very DIY sort of guy, and I am very cheap, too. I like the idea of keeping my windshield wiper blades and just changing the rubber refill. However, I can never find them in stores, and I don‘t know anyone who has ever done this. Are there any strong reasons against changing the refills? Most things I have read say that changing the refills is a pain. Why is this? I dont mind taking an extra 10 minutes to save $10. where can I buy the refills?I am not particularly worried about my wipers leaving perfectly clear glass behind. I just need to change my current wipers, which hardly do anything.
- My usual practice is to buy the refills once, then buy new blades the next time, and then the cycle repeats. This has worked for me pretty well for the last 30 years or so.
- Q: My windshield wipers stopped working all of a sudden and it‘s forecasted to rain all week. I can‘t drive it to a shop to have them look at it and with Christmas coming up I can‘t afford to have them tow and fix it anyway. Is there anything I can do to try and fix my windshield wipers before spending a fortune to have them fixed by a mechanic?
- if it's an 89, i suppose it has the hydraulic wiper motor like my old 89 300e, and unless you can get to one and do it yourself (and have mechanic skills), then unfortunately there isn't much you can do.
- Q: Is it because of the trend towards bigger windshields or something else?
- it uses NWB brand wipers. measure the length of blades. then buy a set.
- Q: I have a 98 Subaru Impreza Outback. My windshield wipers tend to slam down when they are on. What‘s wrong?
- magna flow becasue it sounds cooler
- Q: I have a VW jetta 1996, i recently bought. I noticed I am completely missing one of the windshield wipers (the passenger side) and the one wiper (driver side) only works on high. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? And any part‘s ill need. Thank you!
- copper is expensive someone will steal it for scrap
- Q: One day when driving my 03 chevy impala in spring conditions the driver side wiper flew halfway off the windshield to the left near the side mirror. I put it back in place and it no longer worked, though the passenger wiper still does. the wiper only moves when I move it by hand, which it should not. I tightened the bolt at the bottom of the arm. no help. what is the problem and how much will it cost?? thanks
- Sounds like the windshield wiper transmition came loose, try to get up in the cowl and see where it came disconnected.
- Q: I have a 2000 Toyota Camry, and my windshield wipers don‘t work. My mechanic said that if part CBS-1009 is replaced, that will do the trick. However, online, this part appears to be tied to the *turn signal* switch, not the windshield wiper switch. Is it possible that the left side (turn signal) switch operates the windshield wiper motor, or is the part that was isolated incorrect?
- The turn signal switch and the windshield wiper switch is one unit, and can only be replaced as a unit. Your mechanic is correct!!!! But it could also be the wiper motor is bad.
