Q: I notice only minivans, SUV‘s, station wagons, and hatchbacks have rear windshield wipers, while sedans don‘t. Why? The snow and rain probably actually accumulates on a sedan‘s rear windshield because it‘s almost horizontal, so why don‘t they have a wiper? What is the need to have them on other types of cars anyway, if sedans don‘t?Also, I know some sports cars like toyota Celica and the acura one have a rear windshield wiper, but the majority of sedans don‘t.
Back in the day, vehicles like sedans and SUV's had wipers in the back for convenience but most places have bastard kids and gangs and all sort of trash. They would break them or removed them which cost a lot of money to replace, so the car companies thought of this Defoggers. These metal lines would transmit heat through the rear windows which will defrost windows and cause water to move. Then they notice it can be expensive just as well and perhaps dangerous which they stopped on most newer cars. Both these methods would make the cars even more expensive for a luxury that has been replaced with something cheaper. Air. They now put air vents by the rear of the car with a nob in the front to defrost windows either with cold or warm air. However, there are still companies that DO still install the metal strings on the rear and wipers too, but they not cost efficient so you'll hardly find them on newer cars. Though Vans, Trucks, and Station Wagons still have them installed or not.
Q: If it‘s snowing or if the forecast says it‘s going to snow, I‘ve seen people leaving their windshield wipers vertical (not on the windshield). I heard it‘s because they don‘t want it to get frozen so they work better when you use them again. I also heard it can be bad for the windshield wiper? If anyone has any clue or advice let me know! All I know is that it‘s extremely annoying trying to use my windshield wipers when there‘s huge chunks of ice on them in the winter! )
No - and it has one considerable downside, if left in that place once you start up off the vehicle they'll at cutting-edge attempt to run or circulate to the park place, in the event that they are frozen to the glass this could harm the motor or the linkage or the two - If the wipers are parked and rancid once you start up off your vehicle in the event that they are frozen to the windshield they'll wait patiently which you would be able to loosen them with a scraper or for the warmth to construct interior the engine and defrost the windshield before you turn them on. and you certainly do not want to expend a $a hundred and fifty wiper motor!
Q: I have removed plastic cap nut but can not pull arm off. The reason is right arm stopped moving so I have to get the grill off that is covering Mtr.
the gm service manual says to use a battery terminal puller to remove the wiper arm from the shaft. you can pick one of these up at any auto parts store.
Q: Is there a certain amount of time or just when they start to wear out?
6-8 monthes for the basic cheap wipers if you have something like the bosch icons i had a set last me 3 years and they are some of the best out there the only thing is usually they are about $23.00 a piece
Q: so i have a 07‘ mustang and everytime it rains, i dont even wanna go out for a drive. My windshield wipers just smear the rain accross making it even harder to see through and its seems like i can see better when i dont use them. Ive cleaned the blades plenty of times but it seems to just keep smearing the rain across. what can i do to fix it so i can accually see out of my car when it does rain? (like today). does this happen to everyone or just me?and if i need to go get new blades or something, please let me know what store i can get them at cheapest.
Best bet is to replace the blades. Ozone, UV rays, spray wax from carwashes, etc.all destroy wiper blades in a short amount of time. The big box stores like WalMart have them. Most Discount (ie: Autozone, O'Reilly, etc.)auto parts stores will change them for you at no additional cost. In the meantime you can try to decontaminate them with some rubbing alcohol and a clean lint free rag. Just wet the rag and run it down the rubber blade. Lots of black junk will come off and if it tears then it needed to be replaced anyway.
Q: Is it because of the trend towards bigger windshields or something else?
I don't know, but I started noticing it around '95. It's a pain, and frankly, I don't understand why two blades can vary by as little as 1. I think it's because the wipers have to move together but the stroke lengths are different because of the position of the wiper motors. So why not position the wiper motors so their strokes can be the same? As long as the auto execs are testifying on Capitol Hill begging for $34B, our elected representatives should ask them.
Q: I'm attempting to make a cheap compost tumbler out of a free 55 gallon barrel that my brother-in-law is getting me from his mechanic's shop. It held windshield wiper fluid. Will I be able to get all of the chemical residue out to make non-toxic compost for a vegetable garden?
Sure! I would just spray it out and make sure you scrub it well. Then, just poke holes around the barrel. My compost bin is much the same, only it is metal. I just place my compost materials in it, and once or twice a week turn it over and roll it around a few times since I don't have one of the fancier composts with a crank. I don't think the windshield wiper fluid is toxic enough to effect the compost, and the bugs' waste will more than likely eliminate or neutralize anything that could be harmful. Good luck! (if you've never composted before, just a bit of advice leave out all dairy, meat, grease products as the oils won't compost well)
Q: Broken windshield wiper - I have one windshield wiper on my 2001 Chevy Cavalier that works great; however, the other one doesn‘t work. It twitches a little, but the other one(the working one) runs into it and then it stops. Does anyone have any suggestions to what is wrong and how to fix it?! Thanks!
a KN is worth it simply for the increase in filtering efficency , as for hot rodding a Kia . well . somebody has to be the first at everything .
Q: To clarify, I had ice on my wipers and when I wiped my windshield, it sounded a little different. It wasn‘t like completely scratching against the windshield, but there was a noticeable difference in the Sound it made. Can the wipers damage my windshield to the point where it will eventually develop a crack? I would have stopped (should have) but I was just trying to get home.
a 460 most of fen came from factory with a c6 ford tyranny safe bet good luck it should fit no prob u can always modify if it don't fit
Q: I have a 2000 Toyota Camry, and my windshield wipers don‘t work. My mechanic said that if part CBS-1009 is replaced, that will do the trick. However, online, this part appears to be tied to the *turn signal* switch, not the windshield wiper switch. Is it possible that the left side (turn signal) switch operates the windshield wiper motor, or is the part that was isolated incorrect?
thats a lot of stress on that axle if its completely stock.
