- Q: How do I replace the water pump on a 1996 Mercury 200 hp outboard engine? I have the parts, but want to make sure I replace it correctly. Thanks!
- Remove the lower unit. Place the lower unit in a stand if available. unbolt the waterpump housing and lift off and over the shaft. Place new water pump lower piece on lower unit. slide the new impeller down the shaft and line up with shaft key and slide into place. place water pump upper housing on shaft and slide down over impeller, turning shaft a bit to bend impeller blades. Bolt down housing, grease shaft splines and put lower unit back on. You may find it easier to change the lower unit oil while you have it off.
- Q: There is no water at all! What can we do to troubleshoot this before calling a Plumber? This is the first time this has happened and we never had a well before. Please help (serious answers only)
- It's not your water heater. It's not the thermostat. Check that the circuit breaker or fuse to the well is not off or tripped. (If it is a circuit breaker, turn it all the way off firmly and then back on.) If it was tripped, it probably tripped for a reason and you'll eventually have to find the reason. If the circuit breaker is not tripped and/or fuses aren't blown, there may be a problem with the pressure switch which is the device that turns the pump on and off in response to water pressure. Not something amateurs should fool around with.
- Q: We are leasing land from a friend to put horses on. We're in the process of building a barn. We don't want to run water out there because its too much trouble for the meter and everything, but someone said to get a water pump and pump the water from the pond and filter it and use it. I have no idea what all we need or what kind of pump to get. Helpp!
- Yes you can pump the water from the pond and all you need to do is goto a store like tractor supply and they have everything that you would need there. The pump will have a data sheet that will say what it is capable of doing. The main things are how far to pump it and how high you will need to pump the water. Don't forget that a pump will require electricity. Before you do this you need to get the water tested to make sure that it is ok for the horses to drink. Knowing all this might make getting the meter installed a better option if available. Another option that may be acceptable would be to dig a well on the property. This would be beneficial because it would all you to have good clean water that humans would be able to use. One other option would be to get a water tank on a trailer and carry them drinking water from your house. You could then set up a rain water collection system to get water for bathing and other non drinking purposes.
- Q: My water stopped working and my tank emptied. I replaced the pressure switch and the gauge. It still didn't work. The well is about 110'. I pulled the pump and replaced it (1/2 HP, 10 gpm, 2-wire). It still doesn't work. The old pump was 15 years old. The one before only lasted 7 years. The water has a lot of sediment. I have never done this before, but it seemed straightforward enough. The wires on the pump were not differentiated in any way (same color). Could I have put the wires together incorrectly? Could I have put the switch in wrong? It doesn't click on when the breaker is turned on. What else could be wrong? Could the breaker be bad? It wasn't kicked out.
- Sounds like the vertical check valve between the end of the pump line and the pressure tank is bad and allowing the water to go back down the pipe when the pump isn't running. Papaw
- Q: Can I get a time estimate to replace a water pump on a 1983 Nissan Sentra? I'm trying to calculate the cost of the repair separate from the part. Thanks. Also, time to replace a battery and the end on one of the attachments to the post.
- About 1/2 hour to replace battery and cable end. Water pump about 2 hours if everything comes apart easy. Being 23 years old it could take much longer because of rusted or corroded bolts.
- Q: I am a business man.My Instituate name is Rockydockyard. This Institiate build up Ships, containerships etc.So we found a high pressure water pump.
- The biggest concern I would have is the possible lack of lubricity with water but from the pictures on the various websites it appears to be a pump that is commonly used for pressure washers. In that case water should not be problem. If it can pump water then it should be able to pump oil also. If it is a gear pump then it will not pump water for very long before there is a problem. Typically gear pumps for water have nylon or similar type of gears. If it is a plunger pump then is the packing is lubricated or made from telfon then it will be okay. A piston type pump will need either lubrcation for water service or telfon rings and packing.
- Q: I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider that I'm pretty sure needs a new water pump. It is still under warranty for another 1000 miles, but the nearest dealer is over 200 miles away, and Mitsubishi says they won't reimburse for work done at a non-Mitsubishi Dealer. I'm trying to figure out if the cost of just paying someone to have it done here in town versus having towed 200 miles and then driving it back, plus the lost cost of missed work.By the way my Mitsubishi Roadside Assistance will tow it to the nearest dealer for free, but last time I did that it was barely worth the hassle of dealing with their very poor contract towers.
- Have you asked the dealer to send you the part at least? Call Mitsubishi and ask it that would be possible, you never know. You could send in the old pump and possibly get compensation. Keep your bills. Discuss it with them. Your dealer should provide you with the area Mitsubishi representatives contact information. The prices for those can be expensive. Ask the dealer, service dept, for the labour, how many hrs. to change the pump. They should tell you. Also for the cost of the pump. Add the two together and you have your ans. Join CAA, or AAA, get a gold card, wait two days for the card's towing to take effect, then have it towed in on the card. Done all the time. Or if you have a relative with a Gold card they can have it towed in as long as they are with the car with their card when the tow truck comes.
- Q: I have a fairly new jetted tub. I stupidly used bubble bath 2 days before and have since read that it is not good, but just because of the amount of bubbles, not that it will actually harm the system. The electrical circuit is not tripped. I hear this clicking but the pump doesn't turn on. Any ideas? Do I need a new pump?
- Also may want to check inside the access door underneath some have a cord plugged into a GFI receptacle that may be tripped. May want to check it just in case.
- Q: noise when i acclerate you cant hear it as much because of engine noise but when its at idle the squealing noise is somewhat loud does anyone know what it could be ? its not the water pump because i bought it new and im not overheating and the belts arent too tight either i have already checked them
- did u get a mechanic to do it? or do it your self? in case you had a mechanic do it, ask them to restoration it in case you had no issues previous. ought to be thermostat, ought to be you dont have sufficient coolant in radiator or perhaps appropriate coolant to water ratio. All i understand is you need to bleed out the radiator to get rid of all air after water pump is taken off and placed back on, because might reason issues aswell. ok nicely you in basic terms as much as date it, so i'm too, your mechanic sounds like a dumb ****, he might desire to have bled air out of radiator, the certainty he instructed you is strange, might desire to have fastened it then and there. that's an considerable step of fixing water pump. If there is air in it, your radiator and water pump wont be rotating the water correct. tell him to restoration it and say you probably did your study and you at the instant are not paying yet another cent!
- Q: Hi, my mechanic said that I need a new water pump. I have a 1994 Dodge Caravan SE. What is involved with the whole changing of a water pump? He said it would cost about $400 to $500 for the whole job. Is that correct? Were is a good place to go get one? I live in Staten Island New York. Is sears a good place for that job? What is installed when they do this job? Belts or what??? I thank you for your time and any help is greatly appreciated. I will be taking my car in this week and will leave a best answer based on the correct information. Thanks again :-)
- $400 to $500 seems a bit high...should be closer to about $300.. .. call around to a few repair shops and get some prices...this is a pretty straightforward repair for an auto shop..
