- Q: When replacing the water pump in a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan. Old one is loose, I'm about to lower the engine a little to get the water pump out. Before putting the new one on, do I have to do anything with the timing belt/chain?
- Depends on the engine size . If the pump is driven by the timing belt then yes , if the pump is driven by the serpentine belt then no .
- Q: I have a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird LE. It has 4 cyl. and it has 98,000+ miles on it. I took it in to get the oil changed and they inspected the car for a noise it was making. Found out the water pump was gone and the timing belt was worn. Need replacement on both. They quoted me 670.00 for the repair! STEEP! The part should cost about 20.00 max. How do I replace the water pump myself? And the timing belt? Do I need special tools? If I can't do it pretty easily myself, how much should I pay for the repair? I'm not made of money, but I need my car to run to get me to work everyday! I can't afford much, so anything around 200-300 is probably the most I can spend on the repair. What should I do?
- On okorder , your timing belt with cost $15.99 and your water pump will cost $35.19 for a new one. Keep in mind that most shops charge more than that as this is how they make a profit. Depending on what their labor charge is, that doesn't sound too far out of line. I just did a timing belt and water pump on a Chrylser with a 3.5 today and it cost about $600 to do that. The water pump on your car is driven by the timing belt and is not an easy task to accomplish if you have no idea what you are doing. You can easily destroy this engine. If you are not sure how to replace an air filter, this would definately be out of range.
- Q: my water pump went bad on my 1997 chevy cavalier, causing it to leak all the coolant it had in the system. i put water in it til i could get new water pump. changed out water pump. attempted getting air out of system. put more concentrated coolant in system than i did water. bad guessing on my part. ran car around block 5 times. it was fine. this morning on the way to work, it started overheating again. my thoughts : more air in system that's not coming out? thermostat REALLY went bad at same time as water pump???? overheating all because of a little too much coolant??? for some crazy reason, my system needs to be suddenly flushed? Your thoughts? one last thing, the car has always ran perfectly normal temp til water pump went bad.
- When was the last time the system been drained flushed and *cleaned? A 14 year old radiator and heater core will be loaded with corrosion and rust. Prestone Super Radiator Cleaner can be used on mildly dirty cooling systems. *Follow the instructions on the back side of the Prestone Super Radiator Cleaner. The instructions are totally different than the quick, worthless rinse cleaners. GM makes a one part powered acid cleaner that works better on really dirty cooling systems. When in doubt change the AC-Delco thermostat with another one from a Chevrolet dealer. Flushing is easy when you splice-in a Prestone or Peak flushing T in the heater hose *return hose from the heater-core. Any trusted private mechanic or Chevrolet dealer can do a *cooling system pressure test to see if you have any external or internal coolant leaks. Never exceed a 50/50 mixture of DexCool antifreeze and distilled water. If someone has been mixing brand X antifreeze with the factory installed DexCool in your cooling system the coolant will turn to mud and plug-up the cooling tubes in the radiator core and mat the cooling passages in the engine. The secret of perfect heat-transfer in a cooling system is clean cooling passages, a new AC-Delco thermostat and radiator pressure cap. Remove and clean the plastic coolant recovery bottle with Wisk, hot water and a round household scrub brush. If you exceed a 50/50 water and DexCool mixture, it will not adsorb heat from the engine as efficiently or get rid of the heat in the radiator as well as a perfect 50/50 mixture. Always buy 100% DexCool Antifreeze and fill 1/2 the total capacity of an empty clean cooling system first with 100% DexCool then fill the remaining space with distilled water.
- Q: its a honda accord 1991 Lx my car started overheating only when i stop when i go it doesnt overheat what should i check like the water pump
- First- don't make assumptions. Let's begin with what you know: your car overheats when you stop but not when you drive. That's not the water pump. To get a good diagnosis, you should get a repair manual and read the troubleshooting chapter. Look for your symptoms and try to identify the problem. Without knowing more, you're driving a ten-year old cooling system. Possibly there' some build-up in the radiator that reduces flow of coolant. Could also be build-up in the cooling jackets in the motor. The controls for the electric fan could be failing, so the fan's not operating when the temperature goes up. And when you drive, air goes through the radiator sufficiently so it doesn't overheat. Could be several factors, but not necessarily the water pump. Possibly the belt that drives the water pump is slipping, but you'd likely hear a squealing noise. Hope you find the problem without just swapping out lots of parts until the problem goes away. Take care!
- Q: What's a small soft pipe for a submersible pump in a fish bowl? How do you use it?
- The little air hose is had to pump in pump operation, to play the role of oxygen, generally want to let the oxygen hose head above the water, or to go into the air, and lose the function of oxygen, if the tank is large enough, every day to open the filter pump. Use hose plus oxygen does not matter.
- Q: The pump works and water goes to the house from the reserve tanks but there can be long delays before it cuts in after mains pressure is lost. After it stops the pressure gauge falls back slowly to zero. Pressure vessel is a sphere has a valve on top. Any suggestions ?
- Sorry I don't know the Espa make but the theory is the same...if the pressure falls once the pump stops, that sounds like a leak in the lines somewhere (most probably the foot valve needs repacement.the fact that the pressure falls to 0 lbs would mean either that the pressure switch is not set properly or it also needs replacement.normal settings for household systems are either cut in at 20lb cut out at 40lbs or cut in at 30lbs and cut out at 50lbs.Check your pressure tank if its got a bladder it should be pressurized to 2lbs below cut in pressure this should be done with the pump off and no water pressure.IF your tank is a non bladder model empty it completly and then prime and restart the pump.
- Q: Standard said that the fire pump should be certified by fire water pump, fire water pump and living water pump what is the difference? In addition to the brand, the same function of the pump, the impact of its price factors? Please advise Master ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ only feel so hard ah
- The biggest difference between a fire pump and an ordinary pump is the performance curve".Fire water pump is tangent pump, that is to say, when the flow rate varies greatly, the lift head changes little. If the flow of ordinary water pump changes, head changes will be great.
- Q: my heater in my 94 ford ranger went out about a month ago today i flushed the heater core and it worked for a while and started going out again after i was driving for 15 to 20 mins. the hose going into the heater core was warm but coming out wasnt. could it have gotten clogged again or could it be something else.
- your right on the problem so to really figure it out take the hose off or lose enough to make a mess and see it flowing. Take it off at the water pump thats where it comes out at. the water pump pumps water into the radiator or up, not the other way around.
- Q: I have a four cylinder ranger with manual transmission. The top pulley was making a squeaking sound the other day and stopping and going. The car stalled out so I had to give it gas for about a minute, and this has happened several more times in the past week. And the car is making a somewhat loud rumbling/clanking noise, which I'm guessing is the bearings on the water pump. So my question is how much will a new water pump cost, I've seen prices quoted on here from $150-$700. Also, it was in the mechanic the other week and I asked him to check the ac compressor and he said it was fine. Thanks
- A water pump for your truck costs $63 at Autozone. I can't imagine where you got those prices at. Take the belt off and turn all the pulleys by hand. You should be able to tell which one is bad. Water pumps don't have bearings. The shaft just rides in a bronze race.
- Q: I am new to saltwater tank, and i what to add a sump to my tank, but I don't know what to add to it. what water pump? do i add the filter to the sump or does the filter stay in the tank.
- If you're using a sump, the pump you use will have to be chosen based on the size of your tank and how much flow you need. The kinds of fully submersible pumps that are used for ponds and other aquarium applications are best. You really could put your filter on either, but most people I know that keep saltwater [and myself included] keep filters, heaters, and skimmers in the sump so they're out of sight. This also gives you more room in the display tank for live rock and fish if the equipment isn't crowded in there. All you really need to have in the display are powerheads to keep the water circulating so dead spots don't build up. And without the equipment hanging on the back, and only power cords coming out, you can use a glass cover to reduce evaporation and keep your fish from jumping out.
