Q: My boyfriend told me that my car needs a new water pump. He said this because when you start the car, it sounds like trickling water is coming from somewhere in the engine bay. The car overheated once before and he put coolant in it, ever since then, it hasn't overheated. But last week he told me that I shouldn't drive it at all because the pump is about to go. I went out today and started it to see if I can hear the quot;grindingnoise that I read about online and all I hear was the trickling sound. It's rainy outside so I can't tell if the pump is leaking water from the quot;weepquot;. Is it the water pump? I want to make a two mile round trip to go pick up sushi and the place is a mile there and a mile back. Will I seize my engine or get stranded if I make this tiny trip? Is it my water pump?
Nicky, There are usually only two reasons to change a water pump and it's easy to check both of them. #1. With the car on ramps or jack-stands crawl underneath and look at the water-pump weep hole on the bottom of the input shaft casting. If coolant is leaking out the hole the pump needs replacing. Coolant will leave a perfect track from the weep hole the same color as the antifreeze. #2. Remove the serpentine belt and spin the water-pump by hand. If it spins with no noise or a lumpy bearing feeling in your fingers the water-pump is fine! While the belt is off, spin all the accessory pulleys to hear and feel if there are any bad bearings.
Q: What is a fair price to have a water pump with belts replaced on a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer?
My 2002 Trailblazer water pump went out. I was able to get a local mechanic to install it (after I bought the parts for $150.00 The fan shroud and clutch have to come off. You need a special tool also. I think the dealer wanted about 700 bucks. I had the guy do it for 150 I bought the water pump (about 40 bucks) and he replaced the serpentine belt since he had to take to old one off.
Q: I'm doing a DCP project which is at its concept design stage. In order to estimate the chilled water pump size and ratings roughly, could anybody give me some tips on the average/normal chilled water pump heads for a typical 10000 TR DCP. The length of the longest loop could be around 600 m single run.
to boot to the availability and go back line, if there are different factors in the equipment at the same time with administration valves and warmth exchangers, their rigidity drop also desires to be protected.
Q: What are the commonly used tools for repairing water pumps? Mainly for civilian 220V submersible pumps, self-priming pumps. How much is the spare parts ready for use?
The most basic tools: a multimeter only about 20 yuan, 6 - 19 wrench a set of about 20 yuan, 200MM, 600MM adjustable wrench for each one of about 40 yuan, a cross, a screw knife is about 6 yuan, about 100 yuan a Lamar, claw hammer, hammer, rubber hammer, flat shovel each one about 40 yuan, a vise, pliers, diagonal pliers pliers, 8 words for each one of about 30 yuan, tweezers, knives, pressing line plate each one of about 15 yuan, 60W electric iron to about 25 yuan, a box, a soldering flux of about 15 yuan, or lamp the incandescent lamp, the crowbar can use local materials, needle, slide board with bamboo made with wood or self winding plate with the line of 80 yuan purchase mode. Insulating paint, asbestos pipe and tie band. Commonly used spare parts: enameled wire, water resistant lines, insulating paper, lead wires, various types of seals, bearings, impellers, lithium based grease, etc..
Q: The water pump in my 2001 PT Cruiser needs to be replaced and I'm wondering how much I'm looking at. I know it would vary and I know it's supposed to be labor-intensive but I thought I'd ask on here before I call my mechanic. We are trying to figure out if we should just go ahead and look at getting a new car. Thanks for any help!
They vary in price but at the right auto parts counter you might find a brand new or rebuilt water pump for about 75 bucks or so but no more then about 160 bucks. The labour on those takes a few hrs anywhere from 4 to 6 hrs or less all depends on the tools and the mechanic. Check around for the part and the labour costs and sometimes it's better when it's a job like this that will cost at least a good 275-400 in labour costs plus taxes to have the shop supply or sell you the part bec then the shop truly should warranty the part via their part supplier and warranty their own labour work too. Also some shops here in Canada charge from 69 to 89 an hr or higher but there are also some shops that will offer a flat rate for work done by them too.So if you have a shop wanting 80 an hr and to charge for 6 hrs or more they could end up charging you well over 600 bucks just for the labour alone. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if you do end up deciding to fix that vehicle there could be some shops in the local smaller towns that might offer you the lower rates due to them being family operated or owned etc and I'd try to find a shop that has done lots of that same vehicle make work.
Q: I have a 1997 15hp Mercury 2-stroke outboard. When I run it it runs great and does what i want it to do. However, sometimes it doesn't pee. I can still hold my hand in the stream when it does but its very very hot. It always pees when i run the motor WOT but when im just chugging along it goes out for a bit and then comes back on. Is this supposed to happen? I was told by my dad that the thermostat regulates the pump so that it doesn't cool the engine down too much. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated
The radiator actual holds the water/coolant and the pump circulates the combination in the process the engine. Upon returning to the radiator, the water is cooled from air passing in the path of the fins of the radiator. The pumps activity is to circulate the combination to confirm that the nice and cozy water to relax for this reason, the engine is then cooled.
Q: I have a 1995 Johnson 88 Outboard. It needs a water pump. I have everything loose except the shift rod that goes all the way through the unit How is it connected and how do I disconnect it?Thanks for your answers.
Look okorder click on electronic parts catalogue select Johnson in the dropdown box upper left hand corrner click on 1995 click on 88 click on your model number (or any model #, all 3 have the same gearcase) click on cylinder crankcase the screw you're looking for is part #47 on that chart
Q: The dealership wants nearly $500. to replace the water pump in our 2002 Tahoe (5.3) it's leaking from the weep hole. I'm somewhat mechanically declined, what precautions will I need to know and any special tools to do the job myself? I've done a few water pumps back in the 1980's that didn't leak Thank you
i have a 2002 silverado and i had the same problem, here is the deal i am mechanically inclined and the labor on this calls for about 6 to 8 hrs i went to napa and purchased a new water pump not a newly rebuilt one but a new for around 200.00 and let a buddy change mine for 125.00 also go ahead and replace the thermostat while its out because it mounts in the bottom of your water pump they are around 25.00 but anyways i would let someone do it i looked at mine and it covers the whole front of the engine i have replaced numerous water pumps and i didn't like the mess it looked like it would be
Q: Every time i turn off the engine i hear like liquid noises behind the dash board in the drivers side. My fan isnt working properly but i just took a trip...4 hours away.. on the highway the temperature would be fine but on regular streets my temperature goes high pretty fast..i have been putting anti freeze pretty often lately because it goes low but there is no signs of a leak anywhere. Could it just be that my fan isnt working properly or is it because the water pump is going bad? or both? I have a 93 Toyota celica
Not it's because you have a cracked cylinder head. Does the exhaust spew out a lot of white smoke? Edit: Having a blown head gasket does not explain the missing coolant. If you had a misfire or the engine was struggling a little then yes the head gasket would explain that. If you've never seen white smoke from the exhaust or under the hood, then I would say it is because the fan is not working properly. The gurgling that you hear is the boiling water going from the radiator to the reservoir tank. It is probably overfilling the reservoir tank and evaporating as well.
Q: Hey I need to pump water from a river and use be able to use it through a hose and also make the hose have pressure. I was thinking pump the water into a barrel and into a hose or something from there? Anyone know anything about if this would work? What would I need? thanks
tried to send pix of water pump. no paste function on answers. anyhow a pulley at the top and bottom w/ a paddle wheel ran by river current. gear it down small pulley on paddle to big rope pulley under water to soak rope. an adjustable wringer pulley at top squishes water from soft rope into a drum or tank. i will try to email picture.
