- Q: My water pump was replaced 3 months ago,but it stopped spraying water yesterday, How do I unclog the intake / Outflow?
- what motor/year/horsepower? If something's blocking the intake you'll see it stuck to the lower unit. Stick a small piece of wire up into the nipple on the cowl. Check to be sure the hose from cylinder head to the nipple hasn't sprung a leak. Take that hose off and make sure nothing's crawled up in there. Remove the thermostat cover see if there's a blockage in there. While you've got it off, toss the thermostat into a pot of water on the stove with a kitchen thermometer, see whether it opens at the proper temp (which should be embossed on the stat somewhere). Drop the lower unit see what's up with your new water pump. Maybe the water tube somehow came off the pump discharge outlet. If you're in the habit of starting your motor without supplying water to the lower unit then you've already ruined your new impeller. If there were any pieces missing from the old impeller when you removed it, then you've got neoprene rubber somewhere in the water tube or powerhead blocking the flow of water; all you can do is start disassembling till you find it.

- Q: This only happens while I am running water. I can hear the pressure switch clicking on and off the whole time I am doing dishes, laundry, ... Since it is only when the water is running I believe that means it is not a leak. I changed the check valve and that did not fix the problem. I checked the pressure in the tank and it seemed to be around the 20/40 mark. Any other ideas anyone?Thanks.

- The capacity will be limited by the pressure drop. Assume 15-40 GPM depending on the length of the 1 hose. This is provided that the 1 is then split into four 1/2 hoses. Otherwise the flow will be highly restricted by the smaller diameter. The efficiency of a small centrifugal pump is around 50%. The general water pump equation at 50% eff. is HP = GPM psi / 860. So for one horsepower the GPM = 860 / psi Therefore for 20 psi the flow is 43 GPM, at 40 psi it is 21 GPM , at 60 psi it is 15 GPM

- Q: I am leaking antifreeze, but only when the car is sitting after it has been running for a while, and its quite frustrating..it's coming around where the hoses are, I just got the thermostat/thermostat housing replaced, and also the heater hose and it seems to be coming from the same general area AS those...My car doesn't leak all the time it seems, so I'm not sure what this could mean. - i think this might be work on how to check if the water pump is in bad condition, first run your car for about 20 min or 30 min until it became hot. then look at your water pump while your engine is still running. if you noticed that there's a steam rolling off then it needs to be change or replace. or if you see that there's a leak. what you need to do is to look at it while the engine is running. then you will know if it is in bad condition.

- What you want is called a sump pump. Most have a system built into them that is triggered by rising water. The idea is to have a hole beneath that allows the inevitable water that will collect a place to go, then when a certain amount gets in the hole, the sump pump comes on and pumps it out to wherever you have the hose or pipes ran to. Being underground, good luck keeping the humidity level down. It won't be easy, and much depends on where your natural water table is, and what it is during rains. Someone in your area might know all that, I don't.
