- Q: We usually wait 4 - 5 minutes for hot water in our master bath. I've been looking into ricirculation pump systems. This would have to be a retro-fit system since some of the lines run through concrete slab making adding a return loop on the line non-feasible. I have found some people comment on simply using a by-pass valve system without a pump (ie. Hot Water Lobster). We do have hard water which I've also read that can present a problem with pumps dieing quite quickly. While I'd like it, I don't need 1 second hot water, but I can't stand wasting gallons waiting for 4-5 minutes. A reasonable 15-30 second wait would be a huge improvement. Has anyone had reasonable success with the bypass valve without the pump or should I plan on getting the pump too? Thanks in advance!
- get a under the counter water heater. it will fit under your vanity if you have one and give you several gallons of hot water until the other water line brings in hot water.
- Q: Car is ford taurus 98.The car had some problems including overheating as thermostat was bad so was was not working. i drove it 25 miles to garage (i had to stop once because too hot to let it cool), i brought it to Ford who replaced the thermostat. Now they tell me some bits of thermostat broke and they need to replace the waterpump and want $620 for it. The other repair were also extremely expensive and i want to bring it to another garage 1.3 miles away on flat road.-1- is it safe to drive 1.3 mile with no water pump or should iget it towed?-2- should i have to pay for the water pump or is it ford's fault if they did not remove the bits of broken thermostat before reconnecting new thermostat to hose ? Can i prove that the pump was working when i came in if i drove 25 miles with it ?Thanks for your help.
- 1) it is safe to drive 1.3 miles if the weather is cold and you do not have to idle a lot - You are MUCH safer having it towed and do you want to risk an engine over a $75 tow fee? I would tow it 2) you should probably have to pay for the water pump - there is no way to prove it did not break while you were driving with it overheating, there could have been parts while you were driving. It is too bad they use plastic vanes now days, old water pumps could have taken the wear. It would be a lot cheaper if you could replace the water pump, but it can be very hard with modern vehicles. I would do my 69 Chevy myself easy but I would have to examine the Taurus before I would brave it out - $600 might be reasonable for a dealership to replace a water pump - I hope you find a mechanic you trust.
- Q: I switched on the pump and smoke came out of it, i opened the pump n found it had some water probably caused the shock. How to repair it or is it dead?? ** its not a well pump just a normal one that pump the water to the tank from a small reserve
- it cant be repaird, to risky.
- Q: I'm only 18 and don't know much about cars, but my car was overheating so me and my boyfriend brought it to a mechanic. They told me it needs a new timing belt and water pump and that alone would be like 1450.. From my research that sounds like bullshit. By the way I drive a 2000 neon, is it THAT hard to work on, or am I being ripped off?
- WAY too much for that job on that car. I'm not sure what they think they're fixing. zxc090
- Q: I moved into a house on a rural property in January, and we live off tank water and have a Grunfos PT18 pumping all our water into the house. The problem is, not all the time, but alot of the time my pump stays on after having a shower, the motor keeps running and restarting continuously as if it is desperately trying to pump more water through, until I go underneath my house and literally turn it off at the powerpoint, wait for a bit then turn it back on. I am scared if I leave the motor keep going like that it will burn my pump out. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this problem, or why it may be doing this, or is something causing it?Thankyou in advance, from someone who has next to no knowledge about pumps!!

- Q: Why such a difference in price. Is the GM worth 4 times the NAPA brand. Both are new for a 2003 Buick ParkAve Ultra with 95k miles. 1st time we're replacing the water pump.
- I would go with the NAPA one, the GM one that is on the car now did not last forever either, I have had very good luck with after market water pumps for GM vehicles. 4 hours seems a little steep though......Good luck
- Q: First I need to take off the belt, remove power steering pump, remove water pump bolts (the bolts are various length), remove water pump pulley (from old pump), install pulley on new pump, install new pump (with gasket and bolts in the right holes), install power steering pump, install belt. Is this the correct order? Can somebody throw any tips at me (somebody who has done it on this vehicle). It's a 2001 WJ with a 4L.
- The centrifugal pump is the most popular water pump in mining industry, it’s could be driven by the electric motor or by diesel engine. This water pump consist shell, impeller, and flange. It gets the advantages of simple structure, easy for maintenance, with high capacity and high lift meter. Application: The centrifugal pump is widely used in mining, coal, metallurgy, building material industry, and other industries which need transfer water or other liquid.
- Q: Is a 3000 watt generator sufficient to power a 3/4 horsepower water pump?My house has a 3/4 horsepower pump that it uses to pump water from the well to the house. I want to purchase a generator that will be sufficient to power this pump in a power outage. Is 3000 Watts sufficient?
- 1 hp is 746 watts; however start up and power factors need to be considered. A 0.75 hp motor at steady state draws 560 watts at steady state; to overcome start up assume you will need about 1,100 watts (1.1 KW). Your generator is 3 KW so it should do well.
- Q: And my heater works 80 % of the time, Is it still ok to drive if I keep putting water in it?
- most water pumps have a weep hole in the bottom of the pump when the seal goes its because the bearing is going bad. As long as the bearing keeps going you have a chance the problem is if the bearing freezes up it just goes BANG ! AND BLOWS ITSELF OFF THE CAR DAMAGING WHATEVER IT HITS ON THE WAY OUT. better safe than sorry a water pump is not that expensive compared to the damage it can cause if the fan locks and shatters too.
- Q: I have a 2000 chevy impala with 85K on it. I have heard/a weird rattle noise from under the hood for some time now. I once asked about it on here and got suggestions regarding front end problems. I had that checked out and the front end is good. I still have the rattle noise along with a high pitched, but not very loud, squeeling noise when I accelerate. I am leaking coolant and it seems to be coming from near one of the belts. Is this a bad water pump? If so how expensive of a fix is it and how involved of a repair is it?
- It sounds like a water pump or maybe a loose connection. It is probably time for a water pump if it hasn't been replaced yet. Parts will run under $60 and it probably involves an hour of labor. The Impala is a big car, it shouldn't be hard to get to and remove. Taking it to a shop will run under $100-$150 for everything.
